Meer Rooster! He's a four month old Lab Mix from Pomona, California here for our Three-Week Board and Train Program. Rooster is a sweet pup, but he has issues with jumping, pulling on his leash, and following basic commands. He also gets nervous around people, and he'll be getting potty training while he's here! Over the next twenty one days, we'll build Rooster's confidence around people, work on his basic obedience skills, and show him how to become the best pup he can be! Stay tuned for Rooster's three week transformation!

After picking up Rooster, we went to Bell Gardens Park to get to know each other! He was a little shy at first, but he quickly warmed up to me. He likes to jump and pull on his leash, but he's very sweet! After the park, we went home where I let Rooster sniff around! He seems to be settling in well. Rooster has a small mark on his cheek. (pictured above), which doesn't look like much, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Rooster and I went to Whittier Narrows Park today for training! It was drizzling for a lot of the time, and I don't think Rooster was a huge fan of that, but he did a great job nonetheless! We started working on his Heel command, and his Sit command. He's getting good at sit, but I'd like him to be a little more responsive and sit right when I ask him to. For Heel, I want Rooster to walk at my left side with his ears at my leg. He's making good progress with this command. Rooster is very shy with new people, so today he got to meet several new friends! Just like when he met me, Rooster backed away when first approached by the other trainers, but there were a couple that he warmed up to!

Rooster and I went to Home Depot today for training! He was very nervous around all the people and noises. When we were in the quieter parts of the store, he did very well! We worked on his Heel command, as well as starting on his Come To Sit and Place commands! For Come To Sit, I want Rooster to come to my right side, walk around my legs and sit at my left side with his ears at my knee. He's starting to get the motions of this command. For Place, I want him to hop up onto a raised object, like he does at the beginning of the above video! I think practicing this will help with Rooster's confidence! Rooster did piddle in his crate today.

Rooster went to the Hollywood Walk of Fame today! He was pretty nervous, as you can see in the above video, but he still did a great job! He got the opportunity to work with another trainer today. At first, he didn't want to leave my side, but after a few minutes he warmed up to her!

Rooster and I went to Citadel Outlets today for training! I can tell he's getting more relaxed around new people each day. He was still nervous some of the time, but much better than previous days. He's getting very responsive with most of his commands, and he jumped up onto a bench that he previously wouldn't have been able to! His confidence is growing greatly!

Rooster and I went to Century City Mall today! He did well with all of his commands, but the goal for today was to get Rooster as much exposure to the outside world as possible! He did well walking by most people, but if someone comes up to pet him, as you'll see in the above video, he will still shy away before eventually sniffing their hand. He will need more of this exposure going forward in order to build his confidence!

Rooster and I went to Home Depot today for training! It was raining, so I decided to do most of our work inside. He did a great job, and he didn't seem too nervous. He's been to Home Depot a few times, though, so that's not entirely surprising. He did well with his commands, and went potty in the grass outside when I asked him to! This shows me that his potty training is going well so far. After training, we went home and Rooster got to play with the other dog I'm currently working with. This playtime helped get extra energy out since we didn't get to go outside as much today.

Rooster and I went to Almansor Park today! It was surprisingly busy with people and other dogs. No one came up to pet him, but he didn't seem to shy away from the people passing! He's still doing very well with his commands. My only complaint is now that he's gaining confidence, he's starting to pull on his leash a little more, but that should be easily fixed!

Rooster went to Home Depot for training today! He did well, and he actually went up to a couple strangers for pets! This is great as he used to immediately shy away from people who approached to say hi. There were certain noises he was nervous around, though. If someone moved objects on the shelves, he would try to back away. As time went well he became a bit more comfortable with the noises but was still alert when he heard them. Overall, he did well with his commands!

Rooster and I went to Hollywood for the first half of the day! There was definitely more activity than there was at Home Depot, but Rooster did better than last time we went to Hollywood! He didn't seem quite as nervous or distracted. He still has a lot of work to do before he's fully comfortable in these environments, though. After that, we went to the park near my house, where Rooster was able to get some playtime, and relax a little bit!

Rooster went to Pan Pacific Park today for training. Rooster did a really great job all day today. He was very respectful and responsive with his commands. A couple strangers wanted to pet him and he was excited to meet them! This time he showed no signs of shying away at all! He did piddle in his crate when we first got to the park though. Other than that, Rooster did extremely well today. In the above video, you'll see Rooster sitting while another dog walks around him, and Rooster heeling with me around the other dog! He's doing a great job at ignoring distractions.

Rooster went to Citadel Outlets today for training! He's been here a few times, which makes it easier, but that shouldn't undermine how far he's come with his confidence! He is getting to the point where very few people and noises cause him to back away. His Heel command is also getting particularly good! He's doing great with the other commands as well. No potty accidents today!

Rooster and I went to the Santa Monica Pier today for training! He did an amazing job! He was very confident. After training at the pier, we went to the park near my house to get plenty of playtime in as a reward for his excellent behavior today. He was able to play with the other dog I have right now, and they are becoming great friends!

Rooster and I had a relaxing day at Almansor Park! He got a bath this morning, and then we headed to the park for training. This park is pretty crowded on the weekends, so Rooster got plenty of time around distractions, including a few soccer games! We spent a lot of time around the pond, where Rooster could take a nap and relax. This is fairly impressive since the pond is filled with ducks and geese, but Rooster didn't mind them at all. After his nap, Rooster got some playtime. He got a lot of exercise today, so I think he'll sleep well tonight.

Rooster and I went to Bell Gardens Park today! He said goodbye to the other dog I've been training. They became great friends, and I think Rooster misses him. Rooster did a great job with his commands nonetheless! I tried to take his mind off of work by playing with him, which he enjoyed.

Rooster and I spent the morning at William Peak Park! He had a lot of fun with a bunch of other dogs! He got lots of love from the other trainers as well. He's still doing very well with all of his commands. After the park we went to Petco where Rooster was also well behaved! We then settled in back home where Rooster got some playtime. He didn't have any potty accidents today!

Rooster and I went to Almansor Park today for training! We walked around greeting people, and Rooster did a great job! He now seems to get excited and playful when meeting new people, rather than shying away. Rooster is now able to perform each of his commands with little to no leash tension! We worked at the park until Rooster started to tire out, then we went home for a nap!

Rooster went to Maple Park today! He's been doing such a great job with his commands, I decided to try having him perform them while I'm only stepping on his leash, rather than holding it. As you can see in the above video, Rooster is doing a wonderful job with this! There's one part in the video where he doesn't want to lay down, and requires a small amount of leash tension, but other than that he does everything with no leash tension at all!

Rooster and I went to Citadel Outlets today for training! He did a great job all day. He even sat nicely and waited while I ate lunch without any issue. After we visited the outlets, we went to the park for the rest of the day. He got much more playtime and exercise there! Since his play buddy went home, we've gotten more one on one playtime!

Rooster and I went to the Santa Monica Pier today for training! He did a great job, as I've come to expect from him. In today's video, you'll see Rooster go through all of his commands, as well as hold his positions around plenty of distractions! He did a brilliant job today. He's earned a little extra playtime and treats tonight! Great job Rooster!

Rooster and I went to Almansor Park today for his last full day of training! For his pupdate today, I wanted to showcase some of the manners we've been working on throughout his time here. For greeting manners, I want Rooster to sit while being approached by a stranger and petted. This was difficult for him toward the beginning, as he would often shy away and try to hide behind me, but as you can see, he's doing much better! For food manners, I want Rooster to sit while I place food in front of him and only start eating when I release him. For door manners, I want him to sit patiently by the door when I open it, without rushing out ahead of me. For car manners I'd like Rooster to hop into the car and walk straight into his kennel when asked. He's done well with all of these! Rooster has made a ton of improvement in the last three weeks, and I'll be sad to see him go home tomorrow!
