Korra | Husky/Shepherd Mix | Cypress, CA | In-Training

Korra, a Husky/Shepherd Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Korra is a bit fearful out in public, easily distracted with her surroundings, pulls on the leash while walking, has some leash reactivity, and knows some commands, but doesn’t always follow them. Over the two weeks we will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress.

Korra is settling in well at my home. She is getting acquainted with the rest of my pack. She isn’t interested in playing yet , but is socializing with them fine.

Today Korra and I worked on her training at home. I introduced and conditioned her to the

e-collar. We practiced commands Sit and Place. She did very well on her first day of training. I have been observing her behavior. She is actually very comfortable with me. She hasn’t shyer away or tried to keep away from me. With the other dogs Korra has shown some dominance. Korra has displayed her resource guarding quite a few times, not only with her food bowl but also her kennel. I haven’t seen any fear/anxiety. Maybe once we start working out in public I will see more of that side of her.

Today Korra and I went to the park to work on her commands. She didn’t seem nervous, but there wasn’t many distractions for her to worry about. We worked more on her Sit and Place commands. We also practiced Down and Heel. Heel is still a work in progress, but Korra is walking a lot better now, walking at my side and not trying to drag me around.

Today Korra and I went to Lowes to work on her obedience around distractions. She did very well when were by ourselves, we were even able to practice without me holding onto the leash. When we moved to the front of the store, where there were more people, Korra became anxious. Even though she was nervous, she was still able to follow through with her commands.

Today Korra and I went to the park to work on her commands. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so she was able to practice around plenty of dog distractions. She was a little excited and distracted when first seeing all the other dogs, but as we kept working on her commands, Korra became less worried about them and more focused on me. We were able to work semi-off leash around the other dogs. She did a great job today!

Today Korra and I went to the mall to work on her obedience around distractions. She was very nervous with her surroundings, so I didn’t feel is was safe to try and work her off leash. The mall had mild foot traffic, but that was still too overwhelming for her. In the video you can see her tail tucked, panting, and not really focused on me. She is more secure with me guiding her with the leash, but when I let her drag the leash Korra wanted to walk away from me and wanted to hide behind me if people walked by us.

Today Korra and her friend, Nola, joined me on a shopping spree at The Block at Orange. They practiced their commands around distractions. Korra was nervous when we first got there, but as we walked around and practiced her commands she was able to relax. She was more interested in her surroundings, but was still able to follow through with her commands.

She did a good job today. She received a few compliments on how well behaved she is.
