Meet Foxy! Foxy is a three year old husky-mix from Santa Monica, California and she is here for our three week board and train program. Foxy is extremely sweet and loves her treats! Immediately we can tell that this pup is highly motivated to learn. Foxy is good around the house but tends to push back when given a direction that she doesn’t want to follow. She also developed a habit of jumping on furniture when she shouldn’t, pulling the leash when out for a walk, and going to potty outside her appropriate spot.

Foxy is a very intelligent girl and we can’t wait to start working with her. Stay tuned to see Foxy’s transformation as well help her become the best pup she can be!

Foxy had a wonderful morning at the park! We are very happy with how well she is already settling in, her positive attitude, and her willingness to learn. Today Foxy learned the foundation of what will become her obedience training. Foxy is sleeping well, without any issues inside of her crate. We are regularly taking her outside as we are also teaching her where and when it’s ok to potty. Foxy has a great appetite and we are ensuring that she stays hydrated. Foxy’s doing great! She’s eating well, eagerly finishing her meals, and has tons of energy for playtime at training. Her training is progressing nicely; she’s responding well to commands like sit, down, and heel showing steady improvement. Overall, she’s thriving and a joy to have around! Today we worked in a low distraction environment given how excitable she is. Her potty training is moving along very well and her inside accidents have been minimal. Foxy is learning so well! This little bundle of fur and love is really catching on. Her potty training is moving faster than expected as well as her crate training. When it comes to commands, she is quickly developing an understanding of exactly what we are asking her to do while we work. Foxy enjoyed a nice walk this morning while the weather was cool, later we practiced our obedience where Foxy shined! Per usual, Foxy’s appetite is normal. She’s staying hydrated, resting well, and playing hard. Check back tomorrow for another update!

Today, we brought Foxy to a busy shopping center for her training session to work in a more challenging environment. We increased distractions with the morning crowd, ambient noise, and a few vehicles moving around. The focus was on holding positions, ensuring she stayed calm and steady despite the activity. Foxy handled it well, maintaining her focus and showing clear improvement in staying composed under these conditions. We’ll keep pushing her skills in similar high-distraction settings. Stay tuned!

Foxy is learning independence! We are teaching her that she can sit by herself holding a position with distractions surrounding her and everything is ok. She loves to be around people as she is incredibly social; practicing these behaviors in a high distraction environment such as a busy shopping center will help her to safely spend time in public while having manners. Come back tomorrow to see more updates about Foxy’s journey!

Foxy had a blast training at the park today! As you can see, we want to give Foxy the experience of knowing what it feels like to be handled by different people. She accepted this very well. Her off leash behaviors are improving as we continue to build them. Foxy’s canned food arrived today without issue. Potty training and crate training are progressing smoothly. This little girl is a joy to work with. Come back tomorrow for another update!

The heat was heavy today so we started working early this morning. Foxy is doing very well with her obedience so we pushed her limits a bit today by having her practice on wet grass. Showing the pups the same rules for how they should respond to commands is no different regardless of terrain. This helps to instill confidence and improve overall engagement. Foxy’s potty training is still progressing. She has had no major issues with her crate training. Stay tuned for more of Foxy!

We continue to be impressed by sweet little Foxy. She is so focused on the task at hand and wanting to please her handler that the positivity surrounding her training is palpable. Foxy has developed an understanding of all basic commands; now, we will help her begin improving them. We will continue to show her various “pictures” using the same commands in new and busier places which will help build more confidence in this already amazing pup.

Check in again to watch Foxy grow!

We beat the heat today by focusing on indoor training. A lot of the problems that pup-parents run into can be fixed with solid commands such as “Place.” Foxy is learning that, even if her handler is moving around, leaving the room, or even walking out the front door, her job is to hold the Place position until she is released. Foxy’s potty training is still very much on track. Her crate training has progressed to the point where she views it as her safe space. Watch again tomorrow to see what Foxy’s up to next!

As Foxy continues to learn and grow, we have the opportunity to introduce her to new sounds, places, and things. Here you can see Foxy practicing her manners in Bass Pro Shop. It’s very important that pups understand how to behave when out and about in public places. The more locations we take Foxy too, the more confident and comfortable she will become! Way to go Foxy!

Foxy | Husky Mix | Pupdate 8/23/2024

We took Foxy to a few locations today! Lots of people wanted to meet this beautiful little girl, so we had ample time to practice greeting manners which Foxy is loving. Her Offleash heeling is steadily improving. Her potty training has taken hold and she’s had no accidents in the house for several days now. Foxy loves spending time in her crate as we have conditioned her to understand that the crate is her safe place.overall, Foxy is well on her way to puppy stardom! Keep watching!

Foxy shined today in her training. Each moment spent working we can literally see her getting better and better. Foxy has gotten used to new people, places, and noises to the point where even busy areas are comfortable for her to be in. All in all, we are extremely proud of Foxy’s progression throughout her board and train. It’s been a hot few days so we are taking extra care to ensure Foxy remains cool, hydrated, and safe.

There’s no obstacle Foxy isn’t excited to tackle! Each day she sees and learns something new. During this morning’s training session Foxy dazzled everyone at the park with her offleash heeling, extended downs, come to heels, and more commands. We couldn’t be happier with the progress she has made thus far in her journey. All of the pieces are starting to fall into place, now we get to make everything better! Foxy is ready to achieve! Keep watching!

Learning the difference between Sit and Down is certainly a process; however, as you can see in this video, Foxy makes it look easy! While heeling she is very engaged with her handler. She wants to please. When practicing her extended sit, even when the handler is out of sight, Foxy does exactly as she is supposed to do. We couldn’t be more proud! Stay tuned for more of Foxy’s Board and Train!

Foxy | Husky Mix | Pupdate 8/27/2025

Check out how well Foxy is doing! These extended Downs help to fix many issues in the home when it comes to our pups. Foxy clearly understands the assignment as we ask her to sit and down for extended periods of time. Her holding positions and coming straight into the heel shows how well she’s doing. We aren’t done shaping Foxy yet! Keep following for more updates!

Foxy | Husky Mix | Pupdate 8/28/2025

As Foxy’s training continues, we add more and more challenge and stimulation while training. The goal is to have the dog’s focus on their handler regardless of what’s going on around them. For the safety of our pups this behavior is very important.

Foxy received her vaccination this morning. She has tolerated the injection very well without any negative effects. We will continue to monitor her. Stay tuned!

Foxy’s looking great! She had a nice early-morning session outside, but this afternoon we beat the heat by working indoors. While Foxy understands all the commands we are teaching, we can always strive for improvement. Today, we focused on precision in our movements. As you can see, Foxy is up to the challenge! Such a wonderful dog to work with!

Look at this girl go! Would you have believed three weeks ago that this pup would lay down and stay there in a busy hardware store? We cannot stress enough how amazing Foxy truly is! Her potty training has taken hold and it’s been quite some time since she’s had an accident. Her crate training is also solid. We can’t wait to see how far Foxy goes!

Welcome back to Foxy’s board and train adventure! Dog training doesn’t happen in long drawn out sessions. It happens with continuous repetition spread over several small sessions per day. Once the behaviors are established, we can work to make them better and better! Extended sits can be shaped and improved daily! Look at this girl go!l

Today Foxy loaded up and headed to meet three other trainers and their dogs for some needed canine distraction training.  Foxy and her counterpart in training, Tyson, have become good friends and love to play with each other.  Foxy needs to be around the other dogs and still listen to the handler when I ask her to do things. After we returned from the meet-up I took Foxy around my neighborhood- off leash...she did VERY well...almost surprisingly I'd say. At one point I stopped, asked her to sit, and responded to several text messages that had come in...she didn't move. A neighbor approached and commented how well behaved she is...where was this Foxy just hours earlier??? My assumption is that Foxy around her peeps is rather fun, playful and unconcerned with keeping a perfect HEEL...I'll continue to work this with her moving forward.

Here is some distraction work that we did with Foxy and her friends.  While at this time we were leash dragging, we have since progressed to off leash work with lower distractions.  Foxy responds well to canines who are under control and not looking for her to join in the play time that she will enjoy from time to time.  Keeping Foxy calm will help her to focus on you, the handler, when having her complete her commands.

Foxy | Husky Mix | Pupdate 9/4/2025

Today Foxy and worked again exclusively off leash, executing each command that Foxy knows.  In the video Foxy demonstrates a wonderful heel position and despite being temporarily distracted by a squirrel she regained her composure and finished the task at hand.

Welcome back to Foxy‘s adventure! You can see in the video us practicing door manners. Establishing boundaries like this with our pups is extremely important. When we open the front door, we want to be confident that our dog is not going to sprint out of the house. Foxy has taken very well to this aspect of training as you can see, she looks like a seasoned veteran.

Foxy has been transferred back to us. We appreciate your patience as we navigated the emergency that necessitated moving Foxy for a few days. Within the next 24 hours, we will add all of the missing dates to this blog for your viewing.

Completely Offleash, free, and fulfilled! Look at how Foxy handles herself with minimal control from her handler. Can you believe the confidence this girl is displaying? Safety is always our top priority; and, as Foxy transitions back to her home, her owners will take comfort in the fact that when Foxy is told to do something, she listens.

Foxy loves training at the park. Exploring all the sights and smells while also doing some great focused training is right up Foxy’s alley! Her Offleash commands continue to improve. Her manners are fantastic. Her crate and potty training are also wonderful. Today we worked on Offleash heeling, come to sit, extended sits, extended downs, place, and under. Foxy did have a loose stool this morning, it wasn’t her norm so we will monitor it closely.

Less than a month ago, if someone had told you Foxy would be heeling offleash at a place as busy as Santa Monica Pier, would you have believed it? Look at the skill and attention she displays as we move down the pier. Since it’s Foxy’s last week, we will be spending time polishing all of her commands and behaviors. Stay tuned to see Foxy’s last week of training!

When we are working with an active pup, a good amount of behavioral issues can be addressed by simply training an extended “Down.” The art of doing nothing is just as important (if not more important) than the fancy commands like come to sit or heel. As always, Foxy shows off! The department store was very busy today; despite huge distractions (even people calling her) Foxy held the position firmly.

Foxy | Husky Mix | Pupdate 9/11/2025

At this point in Doxy’s training, the focus is on maintaining and improving behaviors. We steadily increase distance, duration, and distraction. Here, you see Foxy demonstrating competence in all three categories. We will miss this special girl! Until then, keep following this blog to see the last days Foxy’s final week!

Repetition repetition repetition! That’s the name of the game when it comes to training dogs like Foxy. We show the dog the behavior we are asking them to exhibit, reward or correct, and repeat. This is the formula for success. Even when Foxy goes home, it will be necessary to continue her training, practicing in ways such as you see in this video. The hard part is over! Now comes the polishing and perfecting.
