Meet Holly! She's an 11 month old Shepherd mix from Manhattan Beach, CA, and she's here for our Two Week Urban Board and Train Program! Holly is very sweet, and loves playing with other dogs at daycare, but she's gotten extremely reactive towards dogs when she's on leash, and she has a tendency to jump on people when she's excited. She also doesn't follow through on her commands, pulls on her leash, and generally just has too much excitement! Over the next two weeks we'll work on keeping her nice and calm while she's on her walks, especially when other dogs pass by, and make sure she's solid in all her commands. We'll also teach her how to properly greet people, and work on the little bit of separation anxiety she's starting to exhibit. Stay tuned for Holly's two week transformation!

As expected, Holly was a total wild child while I was working with her to see what she could do! She jumped on me, wouldn't give me a Sit or Down, and the Heel was a complete no-go! On the other end, she did actually come to me when I called her each time. It took her a bit longer than I generally like, but it's a good sign to me that she at least knows that one! It's the most important command your dog should know, so once we start practicing every day, she'll be coming in hot (and not jumping on anyone at the end) as soon as she's called!

As for the rest of her day, we kept things light so she would have some time to adjust to her new environment. She was quiet in the crate the entire ride home, and while she did initially bark at the dogs she saw through the fence, I introduced her nice and slow to the small group I had today. She had no problems at all once she was actually in there and got a chance to sniff everyone. She did do a little separation anxiety barking, but it wasn't frantic and she settled down decently well. Inside the house, I let her sniff around and get her bearings, then introduced her to where she'd be sleeping. Again, there was a little bit of whining inside the crate, but it wasn't anything overly concerning and she didn't try to bust out. I think she'll get comfortable within only a couple days once she gets used to the routine. And then we'll see her personality really shine!
