Laker, a ten ten month old Miniature Goldendoodle, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Laker comes to us with lack of following commands, pulling on the leash, jumping and nipping to get attention, anxiety, and being easily distracted. Over the two weeks he will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!
Pupdate 5/31/2022
Laker is settling in well at my home. He got to meet some new friends, but was a bit timid and not interested in being around them. It will take some time for him to warm up to them.
Pupdate 6/1/2022
Today Laker and I went to the park to work on his obedience. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Place, and Heel. Place is a command where Laker must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Heel is still a work in progress, but Laker is walking a lot better now. We need more work with his focus. He’s very interested in his surroundings rather than paying attention to me.

Today Laker and I went back to the park to work on his obedience. We worked more on his Place and Heel. We practiced two new commands: Down and Come to Sit. He did a little better with focusing on me. Laker can be a little mouthy doesn’t want to listen.

Today Laker and I went to the park to work on his commands. He learned a new command, Come to Heel. This command Is a little tricky, but Laker ended up getting the hang of it. He is doing great with his training!
Pupdate 6/4/2022
Today Laker and I went to Lowes to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a bit distracted when we first got there, but as we walked around and practiced his commands, Laker relaxed and was able to focus on his commands. He was a little scared of the carts that would roll by us. He did pretty well for his first time around distractions.

Today Laker and I worked on his commands at home. I used her friends as a distraction While we practiced. It was a little hard for him to focus at first, he wanted to join in on the fun. After a little while he was able to focus and follow his commands. Once training was over, Laker got to play with his friends.

Today Laker and I went to the park to work on his commands around distractions. We tried to practice semi-off leash, but Laker isn’t quite ready for that yet. He was distracted with other dogs and people passing by. He would throw a little temper tantrum when he didn’t want to listen. After a while he finally followed through with his command once he realized I wasnt going to give in to his stubbornness.

Today Laker and I met with the other OffLeash trainers and their dogs. Laker got to work around plenty of dog distractions. It was hard for him to focus at first, he was very interested in the other dogs, but as practiced his commands he was able to them and listen to me. He tried to throw a few tantrums when he didn’t want to listen, but I still made him follow through with the commands.

Today Laker joined me on a shopping spree at The Citadel Outlet. He did a pretty good job today. He was able to hold a sit and down while strangers passed close by. He is still quite distracted with his surroundings. You can see in the video, as we are walking, he is more worried about everything going on around us rather than paying attention to where I’m walking. He tries to wander a little too far away from me.

Today Laker and I went to Irvine Spectrum to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a bit anxious when we first arrived, but as we walked around and worked on his commands he was able to relax and focus. Laker was a little overwhelmed with the amount of people, if I tried to walk away from him while he was holding a command, he wanted to break command and come back to my side.

Today Laker and I went to The Block at Orange to work on his commands around distractions. He did pretty well. Laker is still a bit distracted with his surroundings, but able to follow and hold his commands.
Pupdate 6/11/2022
Today Laker and I went to the park to work on his obedience. The was a good amount of distraction, not a much as the mall, so he did better with focusing on me. We worked on his distance and duration. I let Laker drag the leash around while we practice, to see if he could start working off leash, but he still tries to wander out of the Heel position. He is doing great with his recall and holding commands. I can drop the leash and walk away while he stays in a sit, down, or place.

Today Laker and I stayed home and trained. We worked on all his commands. We practiced his door manners, food manners, and loading into the car. Laker’s tummy wasn’t feeling too well today. I noticed he had diarrhea. I gave him white rice and anti- diarrhea liquid to help his stomach. I will keep an eye on it to see if it helps settle his stomach.

Today Laker and I went to the park to work on his commands. We met with other Offleash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Laker got to work around dog distractions. He still had diarrhea today. I fed him more white rice mixed in with tablespoon of cottage cheese, which he ate the entire bowl for both meals. Laker got a bath and got to play and socialize with his friends before he goes home tomorrow. He can’t wait to show you everything he has learned!
