Introducing Snoopy, a 3 year old Malinois mix rescue dog, to the OffLeash Socal family from Los Angeles. He will be staying with me for a three-week board and train reactive program. Snoopy was adopted by his new owners three months ago. While he understands several commands and is eager to learn, he still struggles with reactivity in certain situations, which can make outings and new environments challenging. His training is now focused on building better engagement, improving impulse control, and teaching him how to remain calm and confident around distractions and triggers. With consistency, structure, and continued guidance, Snoopy is making steady progress toward becoming a more balanced and reliable companion, giving his owners greater peace of mind and helping strengthen the bond they have built with him since his rescue.

Snoopy the Malinois mix worked through the full list of basic obedience commands today and showed that he still needs some improvement in a few areas. While he demonstrated a good understanding of several commands, he struggled at times with consistency, focus, and response speed, especially when distractions were present. Snoopy responded best with repetition and positive reinforcement, and he showed willingness to learn even when corrections were needed. Continued practice with sit, stay, recall, and leash manners will help build his confidence and reliability over time. Overall, today’s session highlighted both his potential and the areas where additional training and structure will benefit him most.

Snoopy the Malinois mix worked through the full list of basic obedience commands today and showed that he still needs some improvement in a few areas. While he demonstrated a good understanding of several commands, he struggled at times with consistency, focus, and response speed, especially when distractions were present. These distractions were other dogs, other people working their dogs in the park. Snoopy responded best with repetition and positive reinforcement, and he showed willingness to learn even when corrections were needed. Continued practice with sit, stay, recall, and leash manners will help build his confidence and reliability over time. During the session, I also noticed small flakes in his stool that were consistent with worms, which would also help explain the weight loss that had been observed. The owners were immediately notified, and medication was agreed upon so training can safely continue while addressing the issue.

Snoopy the Malinois showed strong engagement and focus throughout the training session in a distracting public environment. He was able to sit calmly and remain attentive when his name was called, even with other dogs nearby and people approaching and passing by. Snoopy demonstrated good responsiveness and handler awareness, maintaining focus despite the movement and activity around him. His ability to stay engaged and follow direction in a stimulating setting reflects positive progress in both obedience and socialization skills.

Snoopy the Malinois learned the “place” command through a step-by-step process using an elevated cot to create structure and clarity. Training began by rewarding Snoopy for stepping onto the cot, helping build positive engagement with the platform. Once he reliably got onto the cot, Snoopy was taught to sit calmly in place before advancing to a full down position. Over time, Snoopy learned to remain relaxed and focused while laying on the cot, reinforcing duration and impulse control as part of the place command training.

Snoopy the Malinois took on a training trip to The Home Depot to work through any reactions that the loud, fast-paced, and exciting environment might bring out. With carts moving, power equipment noises, and constant foot traffic all around, Snoopy stayed focused and handled the distractions incredibly well. Throughout the session, he maintained a super positive engagement with me, choosing to stay connected and responsive despite everything happening around him. It was great to see his confidence and stability continue to grow in such a stimulating public setting, and he finished the training outing calm, attentive, and successful.

Snoopy the Malinois is learning to come, sit, and confidently land in the heel position on my left-hand side during training sessions. He is showing strong drive, focus, and enthusiasm while working through each repetition, and he is beginning to understand the importance of coming in straight and sitting neatly at heel. His athleticism and intelligence make him highly responsive to guidance, and with continued consistency and positive reinforcement, Snoopy is steadily improving his precision, timing, and overall obedience in the heel position.

Snoopy the Malinois did an outstanding job during training at the park, especially while working around other reactive and actively training dogs. Despite the busy environment and distractions, Snoopy remained calm, cool, and very collected throughout the session. He stayed engaged with me, maintained excellent focus, and showed impressive self-control in situations that can often be challenging for many dogs. His ability to stay composed and confident around high-energy distractions highlights the progress he has made through consistent training and structure. Snoopy’s performance was a great example of balanced behavior, patience, and teamwork.

Snoopy the Malinois demonstrated excellent obedience and impulse control today as he maintained a solid down stay beside me while I actively worked another reactive dog only a few feet away. Despite the movement, barking, and overall stimulation from multiple dogs being trained in close proximity, Snoopy remained calm, focused, and committed to the command. His ability to hold position under such heavy environmental pressure highlights both his growing stability and the strength of his training foundation.

Snoopy the Belgian Malinois is learning proper vehicle etiquette by calmly waiting for direction before loading into the truck, jumping in only when given the command, and entering the crate in a controlled and confident manner. Through consistent training and positive reinforcement, Snoopy is building good habits such as staying focused around the vehicle, avoiding rushing or pacing, and settling quietly once inside the crate. This training helps ensure safe transportation, reinforces obedience and impulse control, and creates a reliable routine for both work and everyday travel.

Today, Snoopy the Malinois worked on place training and recall to sit with me in a neighborhood environment. During the session, my two young neighbor children came outside and remained visibly present while watching the training. Snoopy has previously shown reactivity issues around children, so their presence created an important real-world distraction and exposure opportunity. Despite noticeable interest and some initial reaction to the children, Snoopy was able to continue working through commands with guidance and reinforcement, showing progress in maintaining focus, responding to recall, and settling on place while children were nearby.

Snoopy the Belgian Malinois had a great day at the park working on confidence-building exercises with me. We practiced “place” on a variety of different objects, including benches, rocks, low walls, and playground platforms. At first, Snoopy was a little unsure about some of the unfamiliar surfaces, but with encouragement and patience, he became more confident and eager to try new things. By the end of the session, he was climbing onto objects with focus and enthusiasm, showing both trust and progress in his training.

Snoopy the Belgian Malinois showed impressive impulse control during a recent training session. After being placed in a down command, his food bowl was set in front of him while I walked away, creating a strong temptation to break position. Despite the excitement and anticipation, Snoopy remained calm, focused, and obedient, holding his down exactly as instructed. Only after being released was he allowed to move to the bowl, proving not only his discipline but also the trust and communication built through consistent training.

Today at the park, we worked on long downs with dropped leashes and impulse control around several screaming children and heavy distractions. Snoopy did an excellent job staying engaged with me and maintaining focus despite the chaotic environment. He showed great progress in holding position, checking in consistently, and making good choices even when excitement around him increased. His ability to stay connected and responsive in such a stimulating setting is a huge step forward in building reliability and calm behavior in public spaces.

Snoopy the Malinois handled a challenging outing at the park with impressive composure. The environment was full of distractions, including a small water feature, loud screaming kids, and unpredictable movement all around him. At one point, he became reactive toward a running child, but he quickly capped his behavior and redirected his attention back to me. From there, he responded well to guidance, settled himself, and maintained his cool despite the chaotic atmosphere. Overall, it was a strong display of recovery, engagement, and growing confidence in a highly stimulating environment.

Snoopy the Malinois attended the park to work on socialization and environmental exposure around several other dogs that were actively playing and training with their handlers. Throughout the outing, Snoopy remained highly engaged with his handler while observing the activity around him. He showed strong curiosity and awareness of the other dogs but maintained good composure and responsiveness despite the distractions. As different dogs moved through obedience exercises and play sessions nearby, Snoopy demonstrated confidence and adaptability in the busy environment. The experience provided a valuable opportunity to reinforce focus, neutrality, and appropriate social behavior while building his confidence around active dogs and unfamiliar people.

Snoopy, a Belgian Malinois, has demonstrated reactivity toward children in the past, particularly when viewing my daughter through the kennel barrier and through the glass sliding door. For his first direct interaction with her, we began the session with Snoopy wearing a muzzle as a safety precaution. My daughter was instructed to move slowly and calmly while petting him and gently handling areas that can sometimes be sensitive, including his tail. Throughout this process, Snoopy remained composed and showed no signs of escalation. As he continued to display relaxed and appropriate behavior, we transitioned him out of the muzzle and continued the interaction. Snoopy did exceptionally well, remaining calm, tolerant, and responsive around my daughter. This session was a significant step forward in building positive associations and confidence around children.

Today I worked with Snoopy, the Malinois, on advanced duration obedience in preparation for his upcoming final test. The session focused on maintaining extremely long sit, down, and place commands on a variety of different objects and surfaces. Snoopy successfully held each position for over three minutes while remaining calm, focused, and responsive despite environmental distractions. By challenging him with different elevations, textures, and locations, I was able to strengthen his stability and reliability in each command. His performance demonstrated a strong understanding of duration work and showed that he is making excellent progress as he approaches his final evaluation.

Today I mixed up Snoopy’s training by layering multiple commands together to challenge his understanding, responsiveness, and ability to transition smoothly between behaviors. We worked through combinations of known cues, requiring him to think through each task rather than anticipating the next command. During play, I also focused heavily on impulse control, asking Snoopy to maintain self-control around exciting rewards and activities before being released to engage. He demonstrated good progress in regulating his excitement, responding to direction, and maintaining focus despite increased stimulation. This type of training helps strengthen reliability, engagement, and overall decision-making in both structured work and real-world situations.

I have been working with Snoopy, the Belgian Malinois, on developing strong car, food, and place manners in the home to build a calm and well-mannered companion. Through consistent training, Snoopy has learned to enter and exit the car only when given permission, helping ensure safety and control during travel. Around food, he practices patience by waiting calmly before meals and resisting the urge to beg or rush toward food that is not his. Inside the home, I have focused on teaching a reliable place command, where Snoopy settles on his designated bed or mat and remains there until released. These manners help create structure, reinforce impulse control, and allow Snoopy to confidently navigate everyday situations with good behavior and respect for household boundaries.
