Meet Rocco! An Six month old German Shepard Husky mix from La Verne Ca, Rocco will be here attending our Two Week Board and Train Program. Rocco is a awesome young pup that loves to play and explore! He's friendly with people and other pups, but at times he does get fixated and needs help getting his attention back on his owners. Over the next two weeks Rocco and I will be learning all of our obedience commands on and off leash, along with proofing all of them in different settings and environments. Along with obedience we will also be learning our manners in and our of the house! Rocco is an awesome pup and I can't wait to see what he's got! Tune in to Rocco's blog daily to see his progress!

Today Rocco and I went to the local park by my house to get some training in after picking him up. Today we focused on engagement around the park along with introduction to ecollar! Just teaching him what it means and for him to come back into my space whenever he feels the stimulation. Rocco did a awesome job and picked things up quickly as expected. Tomorrow we will be demonstrating ecollar intro along with pairing sit and down commands with the ecollar.

Today Rocco and I went back to the local park by my house to get some more training in. Today we focused on ecollar conditioning making sure Rocco understands what the ecollar stimulation means along with pairing it to the sit and down commands at times. Whenever Rocco starts to wander off and get distracted, he will feel a bit of stimulation a bit and that just means for him to get his butt back next to me. After we started to pair the ecollar stimulation along with the commands “sit” and “down”, Rocco was able to pick up the sit command fairly quickly, the down command is still coming along. Overall Rocco is doing a great job at working and picking up new commands!

Today Rocco and I went to our local Lowe’s in San Dimas Ca, to get some training in! Today we focused more on ecollar training, pairing leash pressure from the prong with the ecollar stimulation to communicate with Rocco. Rocco is a smart pup, he’s already picking up the “heel” command fairly well, along with the “sit” command. The “down” command Rocco is a bit stubborn, but that’s not a big deal, every day we will be working on the down command and consistently showing him the same picture, then eventually the stubbornness will naturally go away. Overall Rocco is doing an amazing job and we will continue to work on his ecollar training and add more commands!

Today Rocco and I met up with the Offleash socal team at a local Lowes in La Habra Ca, to get some training in with the pups! Today Rocco and I focused on his down and sit commands around other dogs, along with holding positions. Rocco has a good understanding of the ecollar stimulation now, just at times he decides to be stubborn with the stimulation and when that happens I simply just help him out with a bit of leash pressure to help guide him to the position that’s being asked. Overall Rocco is doing a great job, he’s just a curious boy that’s interested in everything, we are also working on teaching him to relax and not be fixated on things passing by.

Today Rocco and I went back to my local park since the rain finally stopped! Today we focused on working on all of his obedience commands with just the leash dragging and focused on communicating with just the ecollar stimulation. We also added two new commands today, we added the “come” command. The “come” command directs Rocco to come back to us around our right side and loop around and sit on our left side. Along with “Come” we added “place” as well, “place” command directed Rocco to any surface or object big enough for him to get on and to either “sit” or “down” and wait for our next command! The place is my favorite command, it teaches the pups to relax and to hold a position for long periods at a time!

Today Rocco and I went to Lowe’s in Rowland heights Ca, to meet another friend who’s also a dog handler to get some training in with some distractions. Today we focused on all of our obedience commands off leash just with a short leash attached for security reasons, and he did great! He also did a great job holding positions next to another dog . We will continue to work on all of his commands daily and add more and more distractions to our training.

Today Rocco and I went back to our local park by my house in San Dimas Ca, to get some more training in! Today we focused on proofing all of our commands completely off leash at the park with distractions from people at the playground along with other dogs playing fetch at a distance and he did an amazing job. Rocco has a full understanding of all the commands along with the ecollar stimulation as well, we will continue to add more and more distractions to our training!

Today Rocco and I worked on my driveway for our session while the rain had stopped for a bit. Today we focused on impulse control along with just holding the place command for long periods of time. We utilized the cars passing by along with my siblings and uncle pulling in the driveway for distractions. While Rocco was holding his place command, I walked around him dropping treats along with toys. Working on his impulse control for food and toys, Rocco has come along way from when I had first gotten him. He used to go after anything that fell on the ground that looked slightly like food, along with a crazy love for toys and had no impulse control whenever he saw a ball. Rocco is doing a lot better and I’m proud of how fast he had pick things up. We will continue to add more distractions along with working on getting his focus on us more.

Today Rocco and I went back to the park to get some more training. Today we focused on the “come” command along with him holding his other commands around distractions. During the first part of the video we worked on recalls and his other commands, all done off leash. Second half of the video we worked on Rocco holding his place command while I played with my personal dog with toys such as balls and tugs as distractions for Rocco, he did end up getting up once but I just put him right back on using the Ecollar stimulation to help him out. After that , I released him and Kisa to play for bit. After playing , I had recalled Rocco back to the place command and he did a great job, at times he did get stubborn but he’s doing a lot better at giving in to the Ecollar stimulation.

Today Rocco and I went to the local pet store in San Dimas Ca, to get some training in! Today we focused on holding positions around distractions from customers and other animals in the store. Along with holding positions we worked on the “come “ command. The “come “ command is the one command Rocco struggles with the most at times. We will continue to work and proof all of his commands. Rocco gets distracted a lot and we are working on getting his attention back on the handler , use the ecollar stimulation to help him relax while utilizing the “Off” command.

Today Rocco and I met up with the Offleash socal team at a local Home Depot to get some training in together. Today Rocco struggled a bit with his “come” command. I had attached a leash on him to help guide him at times when he does struggle. Overall Rocco has a clear understanding of everything, but get stubborn at times and chooses to ignore the Ecollar stimulation. Before every session Rocco and I will warm up getting him used to the stimulation more, before i let him completely off leash.

Today Rocco and I met up with one of our Offleash members at the local Montebello Mall, to get some training in. Today we focused on proofing all of his off leash work in a busy environment, which he did great! We work on proofing our commands daily, really making sure Rocco has a full understanding of everything. Rocco is a very smart boy and he at times will take advantage of the Low stimulation, and would at times only respond to the high stimulation levels. Now as soon as Rocco isn’t responding to the low level I automatically resort to high levels, only because I know he understands what I’m asking for, but chooses to ignore me.

Today Rocco and I met up with the Offleash Socal team at the Santa Monica Pier to get some training in! Today we focused on Rocco relaxing in public just holding his position on the place cot as people walked by on the busy pier. Rocco did a great job today. Rocco does tend to get distracted a lot, he gets distracted a lot by birds and squirrels, with that being said, we have to stop his fixation before it happens.

Pupdate 3-25-2023

Today Rocco went to the park to proof our training before our big day tomorrow! Today we focused on proofing all of his commands around distractions from other pups and animals around the park. Rocco is doing great at responding to the ecollar stimulation, is it most important to make training second nature. Rocco needs consistency from you guys to succeed. Rocco understands everything right now, please make sure to keep up with Rocco's training daily, he’s a young pup that likes to test his handler a lot. Rocco is an awesome boy and I enjoyed working with him!
