Dunno | Bernedoodle | Montebello, CA | In-Training

Dunno, a two year old Bernedoodle, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Three Week Board and Train program. Dunno comes to us knowing some commands, but not always following them if distracted. She jumps to greet, pees from over excitement, pulls on the leash while walking, and will run away if the door is open. Over the three weeks Dunno will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Dunno is settling in well at my home. She got to make some new friends. She has been running around and playing nonstop since she got here.

Dunno and I trained at home today. We practiced more of her sit, down, place, and heel commands. She did pretty well. She was a little stubborn with her down command, putting up a little fight when being asked to lay down. After doing quite a few reps, she started to listen and lay down willingly. We need to work more on her duration. It is hard for her to hold her commands for a longer period of time, but we will keep practicing.

She much better with the Down command today, not trying to resist or put up a struggle. We worked on new commands, Come to Sit. For this command, Dunno will come around my right side sit on my left in the heel position. It can be a tricky command to learn at first, but Dunno is starting to get the hang of it.

Dunno and I trained at a local shopping center to work on her commands. I had my sister assisting me with training Dunno today. Dunno was very distracted with the new surroundings. After some repetition Dunno was able to settle down and focus on her training. She is still having a hard time holding her sits and downs. She gets easily excited and antsy which makes it difficult for her to stay still, but we will continue to practice.

We were even able to work semi-off leash; letting Dunno drag the leash while we trained.

Dunno and I went to Lowe’s to work on her obedience around distractions. We worked completely off leash. She did pretty well. Dunno did get startled a few times by loud noises and a fork lift. I let her sit and watch the fork lift pass by so she could see that it’s nothing to be scared about. As we continued to work around the distractions she was able to relax and focus back on her commands.

Today Dunno trained at home. My sister assisted me today with training Dunno. I want Dunno to be responsive and follow directions from other people as well. She listens well with me, but gets a little too excited when someone new tries to talk to her or tell her what to do. It’s hard for her to settle and stay still. Dunno practiced all her commands and  worked on her duration. We started working on her door manners, teaching Dunno that when a door is open she cannot run out. She needs to wait patiently until given permission to pass the doorway or any other thresholds.
