Dio, a two year old Labrador Retriever, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our One Week Board and Train Program. He comes to us having training in the past, but he doesn’t always follow commands is distracted. Dio pulls on the leash while walking, counter-surfs, chews and eats things he shouldn’t, and jumps to greet. Over the week Dio will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress.

Dio is settling in well at my home. He is getting along great with the rest of my pack. He has been running around and playing nonstop since he’s been here.

Today Dio and I worked on his obedience at home. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down, and Place. Place is a command where Dio must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for confidence building as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. He did very well and caught on to this command quickly.

Today Dio and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We practiced his Sit, Down, and Place. We worked on two new commands: Come to Sit and Heel. Heel is still a work in progress, but Dio is walking much better. He is staying closer to my side and walking at my pace instead of trying to drag me around everywhere. Dio is doing a great job with his training!

Today Dio and I went to Home Depot to work on his commands around distractions. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Dio had plenty of dog distractions to practice around. He was a bit distracted at first. He wanted to say hi to every dog there, but I made sure that he followed through with his commands. As we continued to train, he became more focused on me and his commands.

Today Dio and I went back to the mall to work on his commands around distractions. He was a bit stubborn today. He didn’t want listen to some of his commands, but I made sure he followed with them. He got excited when someone approached to pet him. Dio tried his best to stay in his sit position, but couldn’t help himself and got up to say hello.

Today Dio had an easy day of training. We stayed home and worked on his obedience. We worked on his door manners, teaching him not pass thresholds until told. He spent the rest of the day playing and socializing with his friends before he goes home tomorrow. He can’t wait to show you everything he has learned!
