Caymus is a Dogo Argentino here for our Two Week Community Board and Train, and from the moment he arrived it was clear—he’s a true gentle giant. Sweet, affectionate, and people-loving, Caymus has a great temperament but doesn’t quite be byrealize just how big or strong he is yet.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be focusing on structure, manners, and impulse control so Caymus can move through the world more calmly and confidently while still keeping that loving personality intact. The goal is to help him understand his size, respond reliably to direction, and thrive around people and other dogs in real-world settings.

We’re excited to work with this big-hearted boy and help him build the skills he needs to match his gentle nature.

Stay tuned for daily updates!

Caymus had a great first day and made a strong impression right out of the gate. We introduced the idea of relieving leash pressure by simply following direction, and he caught on quicker than expected—showing that gentle giant brain working already. He was curious, engaged, and willing to try, which made for a really productive start.

We were also mindful of his comfort throughout the day, as his skin is still a bit raw from itching, so everything was kept fair, thoughtful, and paced appropriately. Overall, it was a fun and positive introduction to the work, and Caymus wrapped up his first day calm, successful, and feeling good.

Caymus is a quick learner and has been picking up commands efficiently and with confidence. Once he understands what’s being asked, he locks in and follows through with calm focus. We’re building clear structure and communication, and he’s responding beautifully.

Each day he’s becoming more consistent, showing great awareness and a willingness to work. His size is impressive, but what really stands out is how thoughtfully he processes new information and applies it right away.

’Twas the night before Christmas, and Caymus the big

Was learning that calm can be just as big.

Loose leash adventures, pressure soft and clear,

Finding his balance with guidance and care.

Gentle by nature, now thoughtful in stride,

Understanding direction instead of just size.

A giant with heart and a brain coming through—

Caymus keeps learning what patience can do.

Caymus has been nothing short of a gentle giant wrapped in Christmas cheer 🎄❤️. This big guy is learning how to move through the world with more awareness—especially on leash—figuring out that following direction is better than pulling like a reindeer late for takeoff. Despite his size, he’s soft-hearted, eager to please, and soaking in every lesson with that sweet, soulful expression. Each day he’s becoming more responsive, more thoughtful, and more in tune—proof that even the biggest presents come with the best surprises inside.

Rainy weather didn’t dampen Caymus’s spirits one bit! Today, he had focused indoor training sessions, practicing leash pressure, following directions, and learning to navigate new environments. Our gentle giant showed off his strength, patience, and eagerness to learn, proving that even a little wet weather can’t slow down his progress. Caymus tackled every challenge with confidence, and his energy and curiosity made the indoor sessions just as fun as any outdoor adventure. He’s growing smarter and stronger every day — a true champion!

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 12/27/2025

Caymus had a smooth, well-paced day that really matched his gentle giant energy. We focused on steady, purposeful time while keeping everything calm and low-pressure, letting him move through the day comfortably and confidently. He took in his surroundings with that relaxed, thoughtful presence that comes so naturally to him.

We’re also slowly working toward giving him more off-leash freedom, taking things step by step so it stays safe and controlled. Throughout the day there was a good balance of engagement and downtime, and he wrapped things up relaxed, happy, and completely at ease.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 12/28/2025

Caymus continues to make gradual, encouraging progress with his off-leash work. We’re taking a measured approach, focusing on reliability and clarity so he feels confident making good choices without pressure. You can see the pieces starting to come together as he checks in more often and stays mentally engaged, even when there are distractions around him. The progress is slow by design, and it’s paying off by keeping everything clean and dependable.

He’s still experiencing some skin irritation and has been licking his paws intermittently. We’ve been monitoring it closely and have been consistent about applying his ear medication to help relieve the itch. Despite that, his attitude remains positive and he’s comfortable, relaxed, and ready to work each day. Overall, Caymus is moving forward nicely, building trust and freedom while we continue supporting his comfort and well-being.

Caymus is continuing to advance his off-leash abilities, showing better awareness and engagement as we give him more freedom. He’s learning to stay connected even without constant physical guidance, making thoughtful choices and checking in more consistently. We’re gradually increasing the level of distraction while reinforcing calm decision-making, and he’s handling the added responsibility well. Each day he’s becoming more reliable, more confident, and more comfortable navigating his environment while maintaining focus.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 12/30/2025

Caymus continues spending time practicing off-leash work throughout parks and neighborhood settings. This phase is intentionally slow and methodical, focusing on consistency and decision-making rather than rushing milestones. While progress isn’t overnight, we’re seeing steady improvements in his awareness, responsiveness, and ability to stay connected in open environments. Each session builds a stronger foundation, and the repetition in real-world spaces is helping turn small wins into reliable habits.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 12/31/2025

Caymus didn’t get a rain check today — New Year’s Eve was spent training in the rain, exactly how his board and train program is designed. Since his real-world work happens in parks and neighborhoods, we made sure he experienced the same conditions he’ll face at home. Despite the wet weather, he stayed engaged and thoughtful, navigating outdoor distractions and unfamiliar surroundings with steady focus. Training through less-than-perfect conditions is an important part of building reliability, and Caymus showed that he’s learning how to work through discomfort and stay connected even when the environment isn’t ideal. A solid way to close out the year and set the tone for continued progress ahead.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/1/2026

Caymus had a nice, steady day today. We focused on one indoor session, where he practiced holding his place and down while people moved around and normal indoor activity was going on. He stayed engaged and put in good effort, even when small distractions came up. We also worked outside in the rain, making sure he got real-world exposure despite the weather. He handled the conditions well and kept the same consistent mindset throughout the day. As we head into his final stretch, he’s staying comfortable in the routine and finishing strong. Caymus will be heading home on Sunday, and we’re making the most of these last few days with him.

Today was about patience and follow-through for Caymus. We spent extended time working through everyday environments where things don’t go perfectly or predictably, and that’s where the real learning happens for him. Instead of rushing progress, we’re reinforcing clarity and accountability so he understands what’s expected no matter what’s happening around him. He’s showing more thought before reacting and settling into the work even when the environment is busy. This kind of foundation takes time, but it’s exactly what leads to reliable behavior long-term.

We are very proud of the progress this pup has been making; however, we believe with just a few more days of focused training he will be in much better shape. This is why we reached out to Caymus’ owners to request an extended stay.

Today Caymus spent time practicing all of his commands while working with a different handler. This is a key step in producing well-rounded, dependable obedience rather than obedience that only works with one specific person. By changing handlers, Caymus learns that expectations don’t change based on who is giving direction—structure, boundaries, and follow-through remain consistent.

This type of work helps reduce handler fixation and builds adaptability, which is crucial for real-world situations like walks, parks, visitors, or family members handling him at home. It also strengthens his confidence, because he has to think through the commands instead of relying on familiarity. His owners have also agreed to let us keep him for a few extra days so we can really fine-tune his training and make sure everything is as solid and polished as possible before he goes home.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/4/2026

Today we had a solid, productive day working through all of Caymus’s off-leash commands, with extra focus on door manners and impulse control. He’s wearing a leash strictly as a safety measure, but he isn’t relying on it at all and is making good decisions on his own. We’re taking the time to slow things down and really reinforce reliability so his off-leash skills are calm, controlled, and consistent rather than rushed. The goal is for this work to translate smoothly into everyday life, whether that’s at home or out in the world. He’s making steady progress, and these small refinements are helping everything come together nicely.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/5/2026

Every day with Caymus is focused on real-world settings, and today was no different. We spent time moving through multiple neighborhoods and local parks, reinforcing his off-leash behavior around normal, everyday distractions like people, dogs, bikes, and passing activity. The goal is consistent, reliable responses no matter where he’s working.

We focused on engagement, responsiveness, and calm decision-making while navigating different environments. This kind of repetition across familiar and new areas helps solidify his off-leash skills, and Caymus continues to make steady progress as we fine-tune the details.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/6/2026

Today with Caymus was about polishing, not pushing. We focused on calm decision-making in open spaces, asking for obedience without constant direction and letting him prove he can hold commands on his own. He’s learning that freedom doesn’t mean chaos, and he’s beginning to choose the right behaviors even when nothing is happening around him. These extra days are giving us the time to slow things down, clean up small details, and build the kind of reliability that really shows once he’s back with his owners.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/7/2026

Caymus has been putting in great work across multiple daily sessions, and it’s been really nice to see his consistency building day by day. His off-leash heeling continues to look strong and relaxed, with him staying engaged and responsive as we move through different areas. We also spent time practicing the Place command on a completely different style of bench, and he adjusted quickly with a little help at first—always a good sign of confidence and understanding. We’re still working on his off-leash recall into a clean  come to sit, and while that piece is very much a learning process, he’s making steady progress with each session.

Overall, Caymus is showing a great attitude and a lot of willingness to work, which makes these sessions both productive and fun.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/8/2026

Caymus had a very different kind of day, centered around learning to be calm and neutral while watching a baseball game at a local park. We worked through multiple sessions while the game progressed, practicing all of our obedience. During some lessons, the goal wasn’t constant movement, but patience and observation. With players, crowd noise, and sudden bursts of energy, this was a great opportunity for him to practice settling, holding position, and staying mentally engaged without needing to react. He did a nice job choosing calm behavior and staying composed in an exciting environment.

Our focus was fully on Caymus during this time to insure his safety; however, we had a moment to snap a few photos after the game and our training was over for the day!

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/9/2026

Caymus had another solid day of work. We continued reinforcing his off-leash obedience, focusing on heeling, recalls, and holding positions around everyday distractions. His confidence and responsiveness are staying consistent, and he’s moving smoothly through transitions without needing reminders. We also spent time on place work and impulse control to keep everything polished and reliable. He does have a small superficial scratch on his nose—nothing serious, already cleaned, and it doesn’t bother him at all. Overall, he’s feeling good and putting in great work.

Caymus | Dogo Argentino | Pupdate 1/10/2026

Today was Caymus’s last full day with us, and he wrapped up his program exactly how we hoped. We focused on clean, confident reps of all his commands, with extra emphasis on off-leash heeling, recalls to a clean sit, and holding positions around real-world distractions. He’s moving with purpose now—calm, engaged, and responsive without needing constant input.

We spent time in public spaces to proof everything one last time, reinforcing neutrality around people and environments and making sure his skills transfer outside of “training mode.” The consistency he’s showing is the result of steady work over time, and it really shows in how relaxed and reliable he’s become.

Caymus heads home tomorrow, and we’re excited for his owners to see how far he’s come. He’s leaving us with a strong foundation and the clarity he needs to keep succeeding at home.
