Meet Wolfy! An 11 month old German Shepherd from Laguna Beach, CA has joined us for boarding. We will be spending sometime together going on walks and enjoying some playtime, which will ultimately help refresh his commands such as Heel, and Come to Sit. Consistency is key to help maintain and improve his training everyday.

Ā

Wolfy and I started our day with a walk around the neighborhood as we worked on his Heel. As we passed a few dogs that were barking in front of their house, Wolfy was very reactive. He was also very reactive in his kennel today as I was working with the pups, taking them in and out of their kennels. He responds to the vibration mode when he is overstimulated. I hold the vibration setting until he follows through with the Down cue. If he needs help with following through, Iā€™ll make a 180 turn with him which helps diffuse his reactivity. I then had him on the other side of the fence as I worked with the pups in the backyard. Initially he was barking, trying to open the gate. I utilized the vibration setting Cuing Off and Down, only releasing it when he began to comply. Wolfy then was able to hold his Down for quite some time as I checked in with him every now and then rewarding him for holding position and not barking.Ā

Wolfy and I went on a stroll around the neighborhood today. We passed by a few dogs which definitely caught Wolfyā€™s attention! I made a few 180 turns with stimulation of the e collar and Wolfy did not react. I then rewarded him for eye contact as he stayed engaged with me while the dogs passed. Great job Wolfy!Ā

Wolfy and I spent the day together playing tug of war as well as went on a walk before it started to pour rain. He has improved with his Heel, not trying to pull nearly as much as before. By remaining consistent no matter where we are, Wolfy knows the rules will always apply. If the rules are always reinforced, Ā he will test boundaries much less.Ā

Wolfy and I had some fun together today while trying to stay dry as well! We played tug of war and have been introducing him to the other pups through the fence everyday to help him have a slow introduction to the pack. He is gradually becoming more and more relaxed when seeing them which shows me he is almost ready to meet them soon!Ā

Ā

Wolfy and I brushed up on his Heel as we walked together around the neighborhood, passing multiple dogs which he no longer reacts to. However that interest will remain, so it is important to be proactive and remind him to Heel with stimulation of the e collar when dogs are near. Clear communication along with reinforcing commands is key to maintain this with Wolfy.Ā

Wolfy and I had some fun in the backyard together after we went on a morning walk. He is improving on his Door manners, not trying to be the first one out anymore. We then played tug of war together which seems to be his favorite game!Ā

Ā

Wolfy and I took a stroll together around the park today where we had the chance to Heel by plenty of distractions, like other dogs, squirrels, and kids. He explored the park as he sniffed around and Came to Sit by my left hand side when called to Heel. We have also been working on his crate manners. Wolfy tends to whine and bark when other dogs pass by his crate. I utilize the vibration setting when is overstimulated as I cue Down. He is taking less time to perform the Down when overstimulated.
