Toby | Mastiff Mix | Glendora, CA | In-Training

Toby, a one year old Mastiff Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Toby come to us with lack of following commands, being easily distracted, leash pulling, leash reactivity, and excessive barking. Over the two week he will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Toby has settled in well at my home. He is actually doing very well with the rest of my pack. He hasn’t shown any signs of reactivity. Toby got to play and socialize with the rest of the dogs.

Today Toby and I went to the park to start his first day of training. We practiced three commands: Sit, Place, and Heel. He did very well learning his new commands. Sit is a little bit of a struggle, but we will keep practicing.

Today Toby and I worked on his commands around the neighborhood. We practiced more of Sit, Place, and Heel. He is much better with the Sit command, he isn’t putting up as much of a fight as yesterday. Toby is walking nicely by my side now and not trying drag me around. We also practiced a new command, Come to Sit.

Today I took Toby to The Citadel Outlet to work on his commands around distractions. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Toby got to work around plenty of dog distractions. He was reactive when he first saw the dogs, but as we walked around and worked on his commands he was too tired to focus on the dogs. Toby did pretty well around people distractions.

Today Toby and I went to the park to work on his obedience commands around less distractions. We practiced two new commands: Down and Come to Heel. Toby is a smart boy and catches on quickly, but can be pushy and stubborn when he doesn’t want to listen.

Today Toby and I worked on his training at home. We worked on his down command, since that’s his least favorite to do. He is getting better with his duration, holding his commands longer. I tried to have his friends be a distraction for him, but they wanted to join in on Toby’s session instead. Toby is doing a great job!

Today Toby and I went to the park to work on his commands. He is doing very well and getting better with his commands. Down was a lot easier today. Toby was a bit nervous and distracted when we first arrived, but as we trained he calmed down.

Today Toby and I went to Lowes to work on his obedience around distractions. Toby was a bit nervous while we were there. You can him panting in the video. It was cool inside the store and I didn’t make him run. It is an anxious/stressed pant, but the only way to over come it is too work Toby through it. Staying focused on his commands helped him to not worry about his surroundings. He was even able to work semi-off leash. I let him drag the leash around while he practiced. Toby did a very good job today.

Today Toby and I went to the park to work on his commands around distractions. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Toby had plenty of dog distractions to practice around. He did very well! He wasn’t reactive towards any of the dogs. He was even able to work around them without me having to hold onto the leash.

Today Toby and I spent the day out in Huntington Beach. They had a surf competition going on, so there were crowds of people and plenty of distractions to practice around. Toby was very excitable and anxious with all the commotion going on around us, so we weren’t able to practice off leash. He was reactive towards a few dogs we came across, but I worked him through it. After walking around for a good while, he was too tired to worry about his surroundings and became more focused on me and his commands.

Today Toby and I went to the mall to work out of the heat and practice his obedience around distractions. Today he was completely off leash! He was a bit antsy while we were there, but we worked through his nervousness and made sure he followed through with his commands. He did a great job today!

Today Toby and I went to the Citadel Outlet to work on his off leash obedience around distractions. He did pretty well, even with other dogs barking at him. He got a little excited when he saw the other dogs, but I had him ignore them and follow his commands. Toby was focused and obedient.

Today Toby and I worked on his obedience at home. We practiced all his commands. We worked on his food manners, teaching him that just because there is food on the floor or if food is dropped, he isn’t allowed to eat it. We also worked on door manners. Even though a door is opened, Toby isn’t allowed to pass the threshold until given permission to.

Today Toby took the day off from training and spent the day playing and socializing with his friends before he goes home tomorrow. I gave him a bath so he could be clean when he sees you, but he didn’t stay clean for long. He wrestled around with his buddies getting dirty again. Toby can’t wait to go home tomorrow and show you everything he has learned!
