Stanley | Great Dane/Labrador Mix | Santa Ana, CA | In-Training

Stanley, a one year old Great Dane/Labrador Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Stanley comes to us with lack of following commands when distracted, people and dog reactivity, and leash pulling. Over the next two weeks Stanley will be working on his off leash obedience and manners.

Stanley has settled in well at my home. He is doing very well with the other dogs. He didn’t try to bite or attack. He actually has been very playful, a little pushy but still respectful. Stanley has a little admire, Ginger the Doberman, who follows him everywhere he goes.

Today Stanley and I went to the park to start his training. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Heel, and Place. Place is a command where Stanley must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Heel is still a work in progres, but Stanley is walking much better now. He’s not trying to drag me around as much.

Today Stanley and I went to the park to work on his obedience commands. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their pups, so Stanley got to work around many dog distractions. Suprisingly, he did very well. I expected him to do his lunging and barking when we approached the other dogs, but he didn’t. Stanley was definitely interested in them but was still able to focus and follow my commands. Once I pulled the treats out, he forgot all about the dogs and was only focused on me. Stanley did a great job!

Today Stanley and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced two new commands: Come to Sit and Come to Heel. Come to Heel is a little tricky, but Stanley started getting the hang of it. We also worked on his duration (holding commands longer).

Today Stanley and I went on a little shopping spree at The Citadel Outlet. He got to practice his obedience around people distractions. We met with other off leash trainers, so Stanley was able to work around more dog distractions. He did very well. He was very focused and obedient.

Today Stanley and I worked on his obedience commands around the neighborhood. His first day practicing his commands semi-off leash! I didn’t have to hold the leash. I let him drag it around while we practiced. Stanley did very well! We just need to tighten up his commands and he will be ready to start working completely off leash!

Today Stanley and I went to the park to work on his off leash obedience. I let him drag the leash around while we practiced. He is doing pretty well. We need a little more work on his Heel command. Stanley tries to wander away from me sometimes.

Today Stanley and his buddy, Alfie, went to Fashion Island to work on their off leash obedience together. It was their first time training together, so it wasn’t perfect but they ended up figuring it out.

Today Stanley and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We had a setback today. Stanley had work with the leash on because he was being stubborn and didn’t want to listen. He also lunged and barked at a dog that was being reactive towards him. He does fine if other dogs are ignoring him. You can see in the video someone’s loose dog comes into frame and Stanley isn’t bothered by it, but if a dog is coming towards us in an excited manner, he becomes reactive.

Today Stanley and Alfie joined me on a shopping spree at The Block at Orange. Alfie practiced his off leash obedience around all the people distractions. He did great, even with two little dogs barking and lunging at him. Stanley stayed focused and followed his commands.

Today Stanley and I went to The Citadel Outlet to work on his off leash obedience. He did very well, even with a little dog being reactive towards him. Stanley perked up when he saw the dog barking, but once I corrected him to leave it alone he calmed down and ignored the dog. Stanley’s tummy wasn’t feeling to well today. He had very soft stool. I’m not sure if it’s something he ate or possibly the heat, but I added some anti-diarrhea liquid to his meals to harden up his stool. I will keep watch and see if it continues.

Today Stanley and I went to the park to do some training. He spent the rest of the day socializing and playing with his friends before he leaves. I gave him a bath so he could be clean, but it didn’t last long. Stanley can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
