Roy, an eight month old German Shepherd, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Roy is a very sweet and friendly boy. He comes to us with lack of following commands when distracted, leash pulling, jumping to greet, and being mouthy. Over the two weeks Roy will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Roy has settled in well at my home. He is getting along well with my dogs. They have been running around and playing since he got here.

Today I introduced and conditioned Roy to the ecollar. We worked on his obedience at home. We tried our best to work out of the rain, but there was a little drizzle. We practiced commands Sit and Place. Place is a command where Roy must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. He did great on his first day of training. Roy is having a blast with all his new buddies!

Today Roy and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced Sit and Place. We also worked on a new command today, Heel. Heel is still a work in progress but Roy is walking much better now. He is walking at my side, paying attention to where I am walking, and not trying to drag me around.

Today Roy and I worked on his commands around the neighborhood. We added on 3 new commands today: Come to Sit, Come to Heel, and Down. Come to Heel is a little bit tricky, but Roy has caught on very fast to all his commands. We practiced duration work, holding his commands longer.

Today I took Roy to Lowes to work on his commands around distractions. He was a little anxious when we first got there. As we walked around and worked on his obedience commands, Roy relaxed and became more focused. Roy practiced his commands semi-off leash. I let him drag the leash around while we practiced. He did pretty well! A little more practice and he will ready to work off leash!

Today Roy and his buddy, Teddy, joined me on a shopping spree at The Block at Orange. Roy did an awesome job with his off leash obedience around higher distractions. He was very well behaved and obedient, except for trying to chase a few pigeons. Roy and his buddy were given a lot of compliments on their good behavior!

Today Roy and I went to The Grove to work on his off leash obedience around high distractions. We met with a few other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs to work around dog distractions. Roy did very well. He didn’t bark or be reactive. He really wanted to go say hi to all the dogs, but he stayed focused and followed his commands.

Today Roy and I practiced his obedience at home. We worked on his food manners, door manners, and loading up. He loves his food so it was hard for him to hold a sit and resist the urge to eat his food right away.
