Meet Rosie! She is a 1 1/2-year Labrador Retriever Mix from Lakewood, CA who has joined us for our 2 Week Board and Train Program. Rosie is a very sweet pup who loves to jump to greet people. She also has the tendency to play bite as well. Rosie knows a little bit of recall and her sit command as well. Although she struggles to hold the commands, especially with distractions present. Throughout her next two weeks with us Rosie will learn all of her basic obedience commands, with distractions with the hopes of becoming off leash! Stay tuned for her transformation!

Rosie spent the day setting into her new temporary home. It was a little tough getting her into the crate at first but now she walks in with ease! She walked into our home with no problem and wanted to explore and sniff everything. Even though her first day of training officially begins tomorrow we are already setting boundaries with her. Such as no jumping on anyone or furniture she isnāt allowed on. As well as sitting and waiting at every doorway and waiting to be released/invited though.

Today we introduced a proper Heel to Rosie. With Heel we donāt want her pulling, walking behind us, or too far off to the side. Ideally, we would like her ears to be in line with our right leg. When we Heel was always want Rosie to match our pace, turn when we turn, and stop when we stop. It shouldnāt matter how fast/slow we walk, Rosie must remain in that Heel position. Heel will be implemented on all walks we go on, even if it is just from the car to the park.

Today we took a trip to a local park to work on Rosieās commands. There were plenty of distractions such as other people/children, dogs and ducks. She was intrigued by everything around her and had some issues keeping her attention on us and at the tasks provided to her. After she got some good exercise in Rosie started to do a little better with her commands. Rosie needs constant attention/reminders or else she will go back to pulling in every direction.

In the video above you can see Rosie practice all of her commands at a local park. Rosie is very pushy and uses the weight of her body to get away with not listening. It is crucial that you are consistent and follow through with everything. So, if Rosie gets up from a Down command, you immediately want to have her follow through with her down again. Rosie is to hold all of her commands until we ask her to do something else or release her with āBreak!ā. She knows all of her commands, but we let her do some problem solving to complete the command correctly.

We took a trip to Huntington Beach this morning to work on all of her commands in more distractions. It was pretty busy at the beach today so there was a lot for her to take in. Rosie didnāt mind the bikes, scooters and strollers which is good! She was very consumed with the distractions and needed extra help from us to focus on her commands. Whenever we see another dog coming near, we make that extra effort to keep Rosieās attention on us. Especially if the other dog is pulling, barking, or excitable in general. With more repetitions her commands will continue to improve more. It is all about consistency!
Rosie went to Cristianās residence today to finish off the remainder of her training program. She took a nap before they started their evening training together. At first, she was being pushy but after some time she followed through with her commands. Rosie was really only testing her down command but was successful afterwards. Rosie's food will be left available to her for the remainder of the evening.

Rosie went to a park today in Downey to practice leash dragging and off leash walking. She did good listening today with Cristian practicing the same commands Sheena has taught Rosie. Rosie showed a lot of trouble with the down command, to get Rosie into a down she takes her time and will try to push her body on Cristians leg but he redirected her to listen accordingly and properly. She had some small dogs around her today at times and was carefully watched and worked through that threshold she has with small dogs, overall experience today was great working with someone new today.

Rosie had spent the morning going on a walk with Cristians personal dog, practicing her leash manners with another dog by her side in which she does good in. After having breakfast Cristian started to practice Rosie's door manners since the day she's been over she keeps trying to bolt through each door she's come across. She's been practicing with each door in the house to challenge her and make her understand we wait when the door opens.

Rosie had spent the day going out for a walk early in the morning with just Cristian to work on Heel. Later on that day Cristian took Rosie with him to his little brother's school to pick him up but before doing that they got there early to do some training at the park next to the school. Once his brother got out they went to the local Anaheim Pet & Feed store to do more training since its pet friendly. Rosie did well walking around the store also practicing her sit and down commands. At one point a couple with a small dog passed by them while training and Rosie did get up from her down but was redirected by her handler back into a sit the moment Rosie made eye contact with the small dog. Rosie does really well for most of her training now but even for these little things with dogs she needs to be redirected fast and quick.

Rosie practiced her Food Manners this morning after going for a 1 hour walk. She practiced her food manners off leash to make it a challenge for her. In the beginning, Rosie did get up about 3 times before completely getting into a down so Cristian could start walking to separate parts of the house to challenge Rosie on being alone with her food. Once she figured out what the objective is she was obedient and waited for her break command. For her Break she will still come up to her handler first before anything, but did continue to pursue the food after her break.

Rosie went to Fashion Island in Newport Beach to practice her off leash walking. Rosie did really good today, she walked around most of the shopping center off leash practicing her obedience with people passing by. Rosie had no problem keeping her commands when asked, getting compliments as people passed by. She only has the habit of going onto grass if she nears it to roll on it. Overall experience today was positive and fun for Rosie.

Rosie woke up real early for some exercise and training since today was going to be one of the hottest days of the week, she stayed home most of the day playing with Hunter. At the beginning of their relationship Rosie and Hunter were kept separate for 3 days until Cristian let them engage with each other. They walk together every morning but the majority of the time they were separated so they can look at each other or smell through the crate so they are used to each other's presence. Once Hunter started to lay next to Rosies crate it was clear he was starting to have interest so Cristian let Rosie's out to meet Hunter. The first 15 minutes they didn't play or know what to do but Hunter started to lay down for her and Rosie started to notice Hunter more and play with him.
