Remy, a two year old Miniature Bull Terrier, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Remy comes to us knowing commands but not always following them if distracted, being reactive towards people and dogs on walks, being easily distracted out in public, lunging towards traffic, and resource guarding his food bowl. Over two weeks Remy will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress.

Remy is settling in well at my home. He got to meet a few members of the pack. He did very well meeting them. He didn't show any reactivity or overexcitment. He wasn't quite interested in playing with them yet. He is more interested in his new surroundings right now. I'm sure he'll be ready to play and socialize once he gets settled in.

Happy Easter! Today Remy and I trained at home. We practiced commands sit and place. He is a smart boy and caught on to his new command quickly. He was a little stubborn at times when he didnāt want to listen, but I made sure he followed through with his commands. We need some more work on his duration, but with practice he will be able to hold his commands longer. Remy did great on his first day of training!

Today Remy and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We practiced more of his Sit and Place commands. We also worked on two new commands, Heel and Down. Heel is still a work in progress but he is walking much better, staying close to my side and focusing on me and where I am going. Down was a little bit of a struggle. Iām not sure if he knows the command and is being stubborn or if he doesnāt fully understand. With a treat he will easily go down, but without it Remy just sits and stares at me. We will continue to practice it.

He didnāt like the noise from the construction going on. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs. Remi did very well around them. He was able to ignore them and listen to my commands. We will continue to practice around more distractions to build Remyās confidence and get him desensitized in new environments.

Today Remy and I went to the outdoor mall to work on his obedience around more distractions. He did much better today. He was more calm and relaxed which made it easier for him to focus on his commands. We were able to train semi-off leash today! I let him drag the leash around while we worked. We need to tighten up a few of his commands and Remy will be ready to start working completely off leash.

Today Remy and I went to the park to work on his commands. There were low distractions which helped with Remy staying focused. We practiced all his commands and worked on his distance and duration. Heās a smart boy and knows his commands, but likes to be testy and see if he can get away with not listening. I make sure that he follows through with commands. I decided to incorporate training with fetch. He loved playing fetch with the sticks we found. We worked on his sits and downs, making him wait until I released him, and worked on his recall, bringing the stick back to me.

Today Remy and I went to the park to work on his obedience around distractions. We practiced all his commands semi off leash and worked on his distance and duration. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs so Remy could practice around dog distractions. He did very well around the other dogs, ignoring them and focusing on me. He was a bit stubborn today with following commands. He tried to test and see what he could get away with, but I made sure he followed through with his commands. After some repetition, Remy stopped with his stubborn attitude and started following commands the first time I asked. It is important that we hold Remy accountable and that he stays consistent with following his commands, or else he will fall back into his old habits. The park was next to a busy street, so Remy and I walked on the sidewalk to work around the car distractions. He did a great job! He didnāt try to lunge or run out towards any vehicles.Ā
