Reggie | Labrador Retriever | Santa Monica, CA | In-Training

Meet Reggie! Reggie is a 6 month old Labrador Retriever from Santa Monica, CA who is joining us for our Three Week Board and Train Program! Reggie pulls heavily on leash while out for walks and loves to eat anything he can off the floor. Reggie has a bit of a stubborn side so he’ll at times stop walking and refuse to move or refuse to do any of the commands he knows such as, sit. Reggie needs help with his basic obedience and needs help with all of his manners. Reggie is such a sweet boy who is ready to learn! Check out his 21 day transformation!

Reggie and I spent the day getting to know each other. We went to a local park where Reggie was able to explore and get used to having me handle him. I slowly introduced the e-collar to him and he did really well getting used to the sensation. He was a bit confused at first but caught on quickly. Reggie also worked on his first command which was ‘come to sit’. What Reggie is supposed to do with that command is come when called and circle around my back and sit next to me on my left side. It did take Reggie a bit to get the hang of it. He would plant himself on the ground and just lay there and refuse to move. After a couple of minutes, Reggie got the hang of it and was so happy when he received a lot of praise. We ended the day by working on his ‘heel’. While walking him, Reggie would pull me in any direction he wanted or would stop and plant himself on the ground. We worked on just heeling the correct positioning and pace and Reggie was able to get the hang of it. He still needs a lot of work but he did such a great job for his first day. I fed Reggie 2 cups for dinner since his sitter told me that’s what she was feeding him. I am still waiting for an email about the correct amount to feed him. Overall, Reggie did great and adjusted to my home and the kennel quickly!

Reggie and I started our day before it got too hot to work outside. We worked on his ‘heel’ and he is getting a lot better at it but will still try to plant himself on the floor. It was a bit hot this morning and today, so we took lots of breaks. We also worked on his ‘come to sit’ and he’s doing great with the concept of coming around behind me. We’re still working on having him up closer to me so her head is directly next to me. Reggie had a lot of free time today where he was able to run around my backyard. He would run for some time and play but then would just plop down and lay in the shade. I did try giving Reggie some lunch but he didn’t finish the two cups for lunch. He ate all of his breakfast and dinner and drank plenty of water.

Reggie and I went to a local park today where he was able to work on his ‘heel’! He is getting a lot better and doesn’t pull as much but will have his moments when he ahead. He still likes to plant himself on the ground and refuse to move but it doesn’t take him as long anymore to follow me. He worked on his ‘down’ and his ‘come to sit’ as well. He is getting the positioning better with the ‘come to sit’ but will sometimes sit behind me or a little ahead. Getting him to ‘down’ has been a bit of a challenge for him since he won’t do it at times and other times he will. He is very distracted when I ask him to go in a down most of the time so it takes him a while to be able to get the hang of it. We introduced ‘place’ today and he did a great job! He was really unsure of some textures or heights but tried his hardest. Overall, Reggie is being such a good boy!

Reggie and I spent the day working around other trainers and their pups. Reggie was really excited and wanted to pull towards the other dogs. After a couple of minutes, Reggie was able to calm down and continue walking. He is getting a lot better with his ‘heel’ and doesn’t pull or try to lay down as much. Reggie is doing a lot better at jumping up on higher surfaces but still refuses to jump in my car. I did notice that Reggie does get a bit impatient at times especially when working on his ‘down’ so he’ll want to get up every so often. We really worked on having him hold his ‘down’ for longer while other dogs were around. Overall, Reggie did a great job today and is learning so much!

Reggie and I worked on all of his commands around my neighborhood today! We were able to loose leash walk without him pulling as much! He is doing such a great job with his ‘come to sit’ and his ‘heel’ but still gets really excited when he sees passing people or cats. Reggie did whine a bit When he saw cats and wanted to pull towards them. We also worked on Reggie’s ‘down’ today and it did take him a little longer to settle since there was a lot of action on my street. He is doing his commands more confidently now and doesn’t try to pull back like he used to. Reggie also ate half of his breakfast and dinner and drank plenty of water.

Reggie went to Citadel Outlets today where he did great with his ‘heel’ and ‘down’. He really struggled with the heat and was being a bit stubborn today. You can and see in the video where he refused to do his ‘come to sit’ and would just lay down. I tried my best to work him through it all but he would just whine and refuse to move Reggie hasn’t been wanting to eat much of his food. He’s being really picky about it and won’t eat unless I add a bit of cheese. I’ve been giving him lots of water to keep him hydrated.

Reggie and I went to a local park to work on all of his commands! He is doing such a great job but is still a bit stubborn. If it gets too warm outside or he simply doesn’t want to train anymore, he’ll just lay down and refuse to move. He is a lot better at his ‘heel’ and his ‘down’ but still struggles with his ‘come to sit’ only because he doesn’t want to make the extra effort to come all the way around. We worked on ‘under’ today and it did take him a bit of time to get it but eventually he was able to do a couple good reps. Reggie is still being very picky with his food and will refuse to eat it if it’s just dry kibble. I have to add pieces of cheese in there to motivate him to eat. Overall, Reggie is being a good boy and is drinking plenty of water.

Reggi and I spent time working on all of his commands with a loose leash! He is doing a lot better at following the commands and was really ready to train today! We worked on his ‘heel’ with no leash pressure and he did great. We also worked on his ‘come to sit’ and ‘down’. Reggie is still struggling with his ‘under’ command but it’s still a learning in progress since he was introduced to it yesterday. He did drink plenty of water and I cut his food down and added cheese just like we talked about earlier today. He seemed a little more happy to eat it so I will make sure to keep monitoring him and add things to his food to make him more willing to eat. Overall, Reggie is learning quickly and doing such a great job!

Reggie and I spent the day working from home today since it was a bit hotter than usual. We worked on all of his commands including ‘under’. He is getting a lot better with his loose leash ‘heel’ and is more responsive to the commands. Reggie also had a lot of play time today and was able to run around my back yard as well as play with some water! He actually ate majority of his breakfast and dinner. I have been adding a lot more cheese and he has been loving it. Hopefully this will improve Reggie’s appetite. Overall, Reggie is doing great and can’t wait to show you all that he’s learned.

Reggie took the day off from training today and instead enjoyed a lot of free time lounging in my home and going some short walks. It was a bit hot today so we made sure to limit the amount of time he was outside. He accompanied me to Lowe’s today to pick up some plants. He loves smelling all of the plants and getting all of the attention from passing people. One thing he did not like were the flies, he would get irritated with them. Reggie ate all of his breakfast and dinner and enjoyed a snack before bed. He is being a good boy!

Reggie spent his day lounging in my home under the AC! He enjoyed a couple of walks today when it was a bit cooler out and loved spending time sleeping in his bed under the AC vent. Reggie was also able to play with some of the squeaking toys I have in my backyard. Reggie ended his day lounging in my home getting lots of belly rubs and cuddles. He drank plenty of water and ate more than half of his breakfast and dinner. He didn’t finish it all but ate the majority of it.
