Pretzel | Golden Retriever | Fullerton, CA | In-Training

Pretzel, a four month old Golden Retriever, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Three Week Puppy Board and Train program. Pretzel comes to us with typical puppy behavior: being easily distracted, not walking properly on leash, little knowledge of commands, jumping to greet, chewing, and play biting. Over the three weeks Pretzel will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Pretzel is settling in well at my home. He was a little shy when first meeting all his new doggie friends, but warmed up to them quickly. He has been running around and playing nonstop since he got here.

Today Pretzel and I went to the park to work on his obedience. I introduced and conditioned him to the prong collar. We practiced commands Sit, Place, and Heel. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so pretzel had plenty of dog and human distractions to train around. He did a great job on his first day of training!

Today Pretzel and I worked on his obedience at home. We practiced more of Sit, Place, and Heel. We started working on the Down command. I used his friends a distractions and let them play while we trained. He was a little distracted and wanted to join in on the fun, but I made sure he followed through with his commands. Once training was over, I let him go play and socialize with his buddies.

Today Pretzel and I worked on his obedience at home again. We practiced more of Sit, Place, Down, and Heel. We started practicing a new command, Come to Sit. This command can be a bit tricky, but Pretzel has caught on quickly. We do need more work on his duration (holding commands longer). He will follow through with a command but wants to break right away. The more we practice, the better he will get.

Today Preztel and I went to Lowes to work on his obedience around distractions. He did very well. He was focused and obedient. The only thing we had trouble with was greeting people. Pretzel tried his hardest to sit while being pet, but couldn't resist getting up to say hello.

Today Pretzel and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We practiced all his commands. We worked on his duration and distance. It's still a little struggle for Pretzel to stay put for long, but he is getting better at it. Pretzel is doing great with being focused and watching where I am at while he is in command.

Today Pretzel and I went to La Mirada Park to work on his commands. We practiced all his commands and worked on his distance and duration. Pretzel did well and followed his commands. He did get distracted by a flock of pigeons that were pecking around in the grass. He tried to run over and chase them, but I told him to leave them alone and had him continue with his commands.

Today Pretzel and I went to the park to work on his obedience commands. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so he had plenty of dog distractions to work around. I had Pretzel work with other trainers to 1) learn to follow commands from other people, and 2) being okay with being separated from me. He was a bit whiny and unfocused in the beginning, because he was worried about where I was, but as the trainers worked with Pretzel, he became more attentive and started following their commands.

Today Pretzel and I went down to Huntington Beach to work on his commands. One of our new trainers assisted with his training, and he gave her a little bit of a hard time, but she made sure he followed through with all of his commands. He did well with dog and people distractions, but he did get a bit distracted by the birds.

Today Pretzel and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Pretzel had plenty of dog distractions to train around. He was definitely interested the other dogs and wanted to say hi, but stayed focused and followed all his commands. We had an off leash dog (not belonging to the trainers) that ran up and approached us. Pretzel did great! He stayed in his down command and ignored the dog. We walked around the pond, where Pretzel saw ducks and geese. He was a little scared of them.

Today Pretzel and I went to the mall to work on his obedience around distractions. He did a great job around all the people distractions. He was focused and obedient. He had a few admirers stop to watch him train. A few people asked to pet him. Pretzel was a little too excited and tried to jump up to say hi, but once I told him ‘off’ and made him sit back down, he stayed nicely seated while getting pet.

Today Pretzel and I went to the mall to work on his obedience around distractions. It was very windy, which caused Pretzel to be distracted and a bit anxious. He still followed all his commands, but was more focused on things around us rather than me.
