Poppy, a seven month old Maltipoo, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Poppy comes to us with typical puppy behavior: being easily excitable, easily distracted, little knowledge of commands, not walking properly on leash, reactive towards dogs when on walks, taking things she’s not supposed to, and begging for food. Over the two weeks Poppy will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Poppy is settling in well at my home. She got introduced to the rest of the pack. She is having a blast running around and playing with her new friends! Above is a tutorial video of the ecollar. I didn’t get to send you home with one, but please watch this video as many times as you need to become familiar with the training collar. Also above is pictures of the collar that Poppy will be going home with. There is a serial number in your caller. If you go online or call you can register your collar for a two year warranty.

Today Poppy and I went to the park to work on her obedience commands. I introduced and conditioned her to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down, and Place. Place is a command where Poppy must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching her to be calm and relaxed. She did very well and caught on to her new command quickly. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Poppy could work around other dog distractions. This was a little hard for her at first. She barked and pulled to try and go say hi to everyone, but as we continued to train around them she was able to settle down, ignore the dogs, and focus on her commands. Poppy had a great first day of training!

Today poppy and I trained at home. We practiced more on her Sit, Down, and Place commands. She did much better with the down command, not being so stubborn. We worked on her duration. It’s still a work in progress, but Poppy is getting better at holding the commands a little longer. I used her friends as distraction and pelt them play around us while we trained. It was a little hard for her at first, wanting to join in on the fun, but as we continued to train she was able to settle down and focus. Once training was over she got to run around and play with all her buddies.

Today Poppy and I went to the beach to work on her obedience around distractions. We practiced more of her Sit, Down, and Place commands. We also worked on Heel. Heel is a structured walk where Poppy must walk at my side. She is not allowed to lead ahead, lag behind, or walk too far away where people can walk in between us. We also worked on her duration. Poppy was a little distracted with the new surroundings, but as we walked around and trained she was able to focus on her commands.

Today Poppy and I went to the park to work on her commands. She did pretty well. She did a good job holding her sits and downs. We had a little struggle with the heel. Poppy was distracted with the new surroundings, which made her want to pull in every direction to explore the new area. After about 15 minutes she was able to settle down and focus on her heel. She did a good job walking past people and dogs without barking.

Today Poppy and I went to Lowe’s to work on her obedience around distractions. She was a little nervous at first, with all the noise and commotion going on around us. As we walked around and trained Poppy was able to relax and focus on her commands. She is doing very well with all her commands, as well as her distance and duration.

Today Poppy and I went to the outdoor shopping mall to work on commands. We prettied all her commands and worked on her distance and duration. Poppy trained semi-off leash! I let her drag the leash around while we worked. Poppy did pretty well. We need to tighten up a few of her commands and then she will be ready work completely off leash.

Today Poppy and I trained at home. We practiced all her commands and worked on her duration. She was a good girl and followed all her commands. We were able to do some more leash dragging. We need some more work with her heel. Poppy tries to walk a little too far away from me. We will continue to practice and improve. Once training was over she got to play and socialize with her friends. Poppy is a funny girl. She thinks that she’s the biggest dog in the pack.

Today Poppy took the day off from training and spent the day socializing and playing with her friends before she goes home tomorrow. I gave her a bath so she could be nice and clean when she sees you, but it didn’t last very long. She wrestled around with her buddies, getting dirty again. I am very proud of Poppy and the progress she has made over the two weeks. She can’t wait to go home and show you everything she has learned!
