Pablo | Doberman Pinscher | Los Angeles, CA | In Training

Meet Pablo! He's an eight month old Doberman Pinscher from Los Angeles, California here for our Two-Week Board and Train Program! Once you get to know him, Pablo is a sweet and playful pup! The problem is, he's extremely reactive to people and other dogs. He barks and lunges at anyone he doesn't know. He also needs a lot of work on his basic obedience skills! Even though he's young, he's already big and strong, and he can pull you around without him even realizing it. Over the next fourteen days, we will work on Pablo's basic commands and obedience, help build his confidence while out in public, help mitigate his reactivity to people and other dogs, work on his manners in and out of the house, and help Pablo become the best pup he can possibly be! Stay tuned for Pablo's two week transformation!

After picking up Pablo, we went to Almansor Park to get to know each other! When we first met, Pablo barked at me and made his reactivity pretty clear. Pablo loves treats, however, and after giving him a few he became my best friend! We don't want to rely too heavily on the treats, as not every stranger Pablo barks at will be able to give him some, but we can definitely use his affinity for food as a tool to help us along the way!

When we got to Almansor Park, Pablo was keen to explore the new area. He pulled me around quite a bit, but was very friendly and playful. There were only a few other people in this part of the park, but Pablo noticed them from very far away. From a distance, he would alert to them, then growl if they started moving. If they got even a little bit closer, he would start barking and pulling. It seemed to me that if they were walking away, Pablo felt that his job was done and would go back to sniffing and playing around. This makes me think that Pablo's reactivity does stem from a place of protection. He didn't seem nervous scared at all, in fact, he seemed almost too confident. As I get to know Pablo more, and we go to new environments, we will continue to explore his thought process.

Back at home, I guided Pablo through my home to help get him comfortable. The first thing he noticed was my personal dog in her crate, and he barked once at her. She ignored him, and he didn't bark at her again, which might tell me he was looking for some sort of reaction from her, didn't get it, and moved along to find something more interesting. After sniffing around for some time, he seems to be settling in quite well!

In addition to his beginning video today, I'm adding a tutorial video and picture of the E-collar we'll be using with Pablo!
