Orzo | Mix Breed | Santa Monica, CA | In-Training

Orzo, a 4 month old Mix Breed, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our puppy board and train program. Orzo is very nervous around new people; he will growl or bark if approached. Orzo also comes to us with typical puppy behavior: little knowledge of commands, easily distracted, doesn’t know how to walk on a leash, etc. Over the next 3 weeks, Orzo will be working on his obedience and socialization. Check in to see his progress!

Today Orzo started his first day of training. Orzo learned the command Place. Place is where Orzo has to sit or lay on an object. This command is great for building his confidence as well as teaching him to just relax and be calm. His buddy, Mushu, wanted to help him out on his first day. Orzo has settled in well and having fun with all his new buddies.

Today Orzo some more on the place command. We started working on the heel command with the help of his buddy, Mushu. At first, Orzo was pulling and weaving all over the place, so I put on a training collar and decided to put him with my off-leash board and train. I put Orzo and Mushu on the same leash and had them walk together. Since Mushu knows how to walk, Orzo couldn't pull and go anywhere he wanted. He finally got the hang of it and started walking at my side.

Today Orzo and I went to the park to practice his commands. We practiced come to sit, heel, and down. We practiced place on some new objects to boost up his confidence. i noticed he is posse of toys around the other dogs, to the point where he snaps at them. We will be working on cutting out that behavior.

Today Orzo and I worked on all his commands around my neighborhood. He is doing such a great job with his obedience. We are still trying to work on meeting new people. Orzo is still unsure when it comes to someone new and will still nip. He’s more accepting when treats are involved, so i have everyone give him treats while they pet him.

Apologies for the late post, having issues uploading the videos to the app. Today Orzo and I went to The Block at Orange to work on his commands around high distractions. He was a little nervous in the beginning, but as we kept walking around he started to be more relaxed.

Today we stayed home for training. Cooper practiced all his commands: come to sit, down, place, and heel. Tonight he got to eat together with the pack. While I prepare their meal, they all must wait patiently. They all have to wait their turn to eat. No one is allowed to go eat out of another dogs bowl. Once they are done

eating, they must sit and wait for the rest to finish or walk away. This teaches Orzo to 1. be calm and patient 2. boundaries and 3. respect for the other pack members.

Today Orzo and I worked on his obedience at home. We worked on his food manners, making him wait until I give him permission to eat his food. I took Orzo and his buddies to a friends house where he met and socialized with a new dog, Blue the Pit Bull. Orzo was a little hesitant to meeting my friend, but warmed up quickly to her. We are still working towards him being more accepting of new people. He's doing better, not trying to bite but still backs away and barks.

Today Orzo took the day off from training and enjoyed the day hanging out with his friends. I gave him a bath, but he didn’t stay clean for too long. Orzo has done a great job with his training! He can’t wait to go home and show you all he has learned.
