Meet Ollie! An 15-month old Australian Shepard from Ontario, CA is here attending our Two Week board and Train Program! Ollie is a awesome pup that just loves affection! Along with affection, Ollie is also an extremely loyal pup that loves to play fetch! A few things that Ollie does struggle with are manners in and out of the house, jumping on people, chewing on shoes, towels and people hands at times. Over the next two weeks Ollie and I will be working on generalizing and proofing all of our obedience commands on and off leash around different environments, proper socialization, and manners in and out of the house on a daily basis! Tune in to Ollies’ blog to watch our daily progress!

Today Ollie and I went to the local park by my house in San Dimas Ca, to get some training in! Today we focused on engagement along with some leash pressure for the sit and down commands with a slip lead collar. Ollie did a great job at following through  with commands from the slip lead command. Tonight we will be teaching Ollie introduction to ecollar and teaching him what the stimulation means! Overall Ollie is just a sweet pup that’s gets overly excited quick!

Today Ollie and I worked on some on leash obedience on my driveway, we utilized the traffic and loud cars passing by on my street as distractions! We focused on making sure Ollie had a clear understanding of all of his commands on leash before we began transitioning him to the ecollar! Since Ollie does have some extra time with me, I will be working with him more and making sure he has a clear understanding of everything step by step. Today Ollie did a great job at responding to the leash pressure for his commands to sit and down. He was even able to hold his down positions for longer than a minute and a half at times! I know it may not seem like a lot, but it is a start! Overall Ollie did a great job today working with me and I can't wait to see what this pup has in store!

Today Ollie and I went back to the local park by my house in San Dimas Ca, to get some more training in! Today we focused on introduction to ecollar! Just pairing the ecollar stimulation to the leash pressure for his sit and down commands! We started off slow teaching him low stem and teaching him how to properly shut that pressure off, which he did a great job at picking up. Tomorrow we will be focusing on teaching the heel command with the ecollar!

Today Ollie and I went back to the park to work on our ecollar training! We focused more on the ecollar and only helped guide him with the leash whenever needed! In the beginning of the video you can see Ollie being very pushy and pulling me nonstop. Throughout the video he started to relax and respond to the ecollar more, after about the first couple minutes of warming him up. We are still in the process of pairing the ecollar with the leash pressure, but Ollie does have a solid understanding of it. Not a 100% but a solid concept of everything that’s being asked of him! Overall Ollie is a super smart pup and is picking things up fairly quick!

Today Ollie and I went on a long walk around my neighborhood and we focused on structure walking along with holding commands next to distractions from loud cars! Ollie is understanding the ecollar more and more  every single day, but at times when I first bring him out to train, he does need 5-10 minutes of warming up to the ecollar, before fully following through with commands. Today Ollie also displayed reactivity, every dog we walked past behind a gate, Ollie would go crazy and start barking at the dog, as well as ignoring the ecollar with leash pressure. Other than that, Ollie did a great job on our walks following through with commands that’s being asked of him!

Today Ollie and I worked on our door manners for our afternoon session. Today we worked on holding out positions and composure while I opened and closed the door, along with walking in and out of the doorway. While Ollie held his sit or down positions. Toward the end of the session, I started to use fewer and fewer treats. I use treats to shape behaviors and commands at first, once I see he has a clear understanding, I start to fade away the food and rely on the light stem from the ecollar tool! Ollie also has a good idea of the come command, which directs him to come towards me and loop around my right side and sit on my left heel side. Overall Ollie is a smart pup and is picking things up quickly!

Today Ollie and I went to our local Lowes in San Dimas Ca, to get some training in alongside distractions from forklifts and shoppers walking around. Today Ollie and I focused on teaching the Place command, which directs him to any flat surface or object that he’s able to get on and lay down or sit on. Along with the place command we also focused on Ollie’s duration for his commands such as sit and down, Ollie has a bad habit of going up to everyone that’s passes by us. After working around people more and getting his focus on me, he started to do a lot better and was able to hold his position for over a minute and a half at times. Ollie did a great job today, we will continue on making sure Ollie has a clear understanding of everything, along with adding more and more distractions to our training.

Today Ollie and I went to Santa Monica pier, to meet up with some of the Offleash Socal members and their board and trains to get some training in alongside each other. There were other distractions at the pier such as birds, lots of people walking their dogs and vendors. Today we focused on training close to dogs and really working on teaching Ollie how to properly relax and coexist around other dogs. At first Ollie was very pushy, but after reinforcement with the ecollar and prong, he was able to pick things up a lot quicker and follow through with commands with ease. Overall today Ollie boy did a great job, given the heavy distractions around us!

Ollie does seem to “huff” out of his nose frequently. He doesn’t seem bothered by it whatsoever and doesn’t have any sort of discharge. But I wanted to make note of it!

Today Ollie and I took a visit to Rancho Cucamonga Ca, to visit my goddaughter, along with getting some training around a small child. Today we worked on greeting manners, along with holding positions and following through with other commands, such as sit and down. At first Ollie would get very excited and try to jump, whenever he decided to, I would correct him with a light stimulation from the ecollar to let him know it’s a bad behavior then put him back into a sit. After about 5-10 minutes of warming him up, he was able to start following through with commands a lot better. Overall Ollie did a great job today at learning greeting manners along with hanging around and holding his composure around my goddaughter!

Today Ollie and I worked in my driveway during our afternoon session. During our session we focused on showcasing all of his obedience commands with the leash dragging for security reasons by the street. Ollie did a great job on his heel, sit and down commands. One things Ollie does struggle with is his place command. I’m teaching him to place on different objects from the place cot; like a smaller place board. He does a great job on the place cot, but on the smaller place board, I do notice he’s more hesitant on getting all of his four paws on it and would require me to use the leash to help guide all of his four paws on there. Ollie today did redirect at me. He showed frustration during his place command, and eventually redirect at my hand. As soon as he did that I corrected him with the leash using upward leash pressure, along with a stem to let him know that is a absolutely not good behavior to have. Other than that, Ollie did a great job on all of his other commands.

Today Ollie and I worked on our in home manners off leash around my family members. Today we focused on having him hold his position around people such as my grandma and my siblings as well. Along with holding positions around the house, we worked on door manners. Just having him hold his position as I opened and closed the door. Overall Ollie did a great job today, the only thing he needed a few reminders on with holding his positions around people. After the reminders from the ecollar he understood  to hold his positions and not to break them.

Today Ollie and I went back to my local park in San Dimas Ca, to get some more ecollar training in! Today we focused completely on our off leash obedience and only utilized the ecollar to communicate along with with verbal. Today we focused on demonstrating all of his off leash commands along with some fetch play! Ollie has a clear understanding of all of his commands. At times he does get distracted by things at the park and on the floor as well. Whenever he does I just give him the off command along with a light stimulation from the ecollar tool. Ollie is a sweet pup, we ended our session with some fetch play!

Today Ollie and I went on a long structured walk around my neighborhood, we focused on his off leash obedience on our walk including holding positions around distractions. Whenever I saw a nice patch of grass I would release Ollie and allow him to decompress and go potty. After he goes potty I recall him then we continue our structured walk with him in the heel position. His walks should always be structured from here on out. Overall Ollie did a great job on his transition to completely being Off Leash and only responding to the Ecollar stimulation, he is a very smart boy and only just wants to please his handler.

Today Ollie and I went back to the local Lowes by my house in San Dimas Ca, to get some more off leash training in! Today we focused on showing all of his obedience commands around distractions from the loud carts to the loud forklifts near by us. Ollie was able to follow through with all of his commands no matter the distractions around him. Even when he would get distracted, he would still follow through with commands. Ollie has a clear understanding of everything I’m asking of him and I couldn’t be more proud of him! We also worked on distracted come commands to distance holding positions which he did a great job! Tomorrow we will be going to Santa Monica pier to proof more of our training.

Today Ollie and I went to visit the Santa Monica pier to get some more training in! Today we focused on holding positions around heavy distractions from a lot of people walking around, to birds flying over us. Along with holding positions, Ollie and I focused on proofing all of his other commands around the distractions that were around us. Ollie was able to follow through with all of his commands, at first he does need some time to warm up to the ecollar stimulation. After some time with consistent e-collar reinforcement Ollie will begin to follow through with more ease. Ollie is a smart boy and understands everything being asked of him but tries to push his boundaries and do what he wants. To mitigate this, this is when we adjust the stimulation levels accordingly for the best reinforcement. Overall Ollie did a great job today working off leash!

Today Ollie and I went to the Santa Anita Mall in Arcadia Ca, to get some more off leash training in! Today we focused on off leash heeling around people to hold a nice sit position around people and kids! Even though people may be exciting, Ollie needs to hold his composure and hold his position because that’s his given job at the moment. Always give Ollie a job to do regardless of what it is, from holding a position to just heeling next to you, it’s all a job and it keeps Ollie’s brain working! Overall Ollie had done an amazing job today and I couldn’t be more proud of him!
