Monte | Sheepadoodle | Los Angeles, CA | In-Training

Monte, a one year old Sheepadoodle, has joined Off Leash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Monte’s owner is struggling with him being fear aggressive towards strangers, separation anxiety, being nervous out in public, not obeying commands, and pulling on the leash while walking. Over the two weeks Monte will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Monte is settling in well at my home. He got to meet all his new doggie friends. He is a little shy right now and does not want to play but he is okay socializing with them. He is slowing starting to warm up to me, allowing me to pet him but still not fully trusting me. I know he will come around once he gets familiar with his new surroundings.

Today Monte and I worked on his first lesson at the park. I had taught him place and sit. At first, Monte was hesitant to pace on the bed since it is an unknown object, but as I guided him on he learned it was okay to stand on the bed. Once he placed, I asked Monte to sit which he gave me a little bit of a hard time even though he knows how to do it, but I made sure that he followed through with the command. I also moved around as he held the command. Monte did very well keeping his focus towards me. I introduced and conditioned him to the e-collar which helped him learn his new commands as well.

Today Monte and I went back to the park to work on his commands. We practiced more of Sit and Place. We practiced two new commands, Down and Heel. Monte gave me a little struggle with Down, even though I know he knows the command. Heel he caught on very quickly to. It is still a work in progress, but he is walking much better, staying close to my side.

Today Monte and I stayed home to train. We worked more on his Place, Sit, and Down commands. We worked on his duration, having Monte hold his commands longer. I used his friends as a distraction and let them run around and play while he trained. He did well and stayed focus on his training.

Today Monte and his buddy, Daisy, joined me on a little shopping spree at The Citadel Outlets. They worked on their obedience commands as a pack and around distractions. Monte was a little overwhelmed when we first arrived, but having his friend with him made Monte more confident and he was able to relax and focus on his training. We practiced a new command today, Come to Sit. This command can be a little tricky, but Monte is starting to get the hang of it. He did well with people passing by him. At one point, we were standing still and I had Monte in a sit next to me. A family approached us admiring and complimenting Monte. They didn't try to pet, but they were talking to him. Monte didn't try to growl or hide behind me. He just sat and stared at them. Once the family walked away I gave him big praises to let him know he did a good job.

Today Monte and I went to the park to work on his commands. We worked on his duration and distance. He is getting better with his Come to Sit. There were people and dogs passing by us while we trained. Monte stayed focused and followed all his commands. We need to tighten up a few of his commands then Monte will be ready to start working off leash.

Today Monte and I went to the park to work on his off leash commands. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Monte had plenty of dog distractions to work around. He did pretty well. He got a little distracted with the dogs and wanted to say hi to them, but I made sure he stayed focused and followed through with his commands.

Monte and I went to Huntington Beach today. We work on his off leash obedience with distractions. He did very well around all the bikes, skateboards, people, and other dogs. He was very focused and obedient. He received many compliments on how handsome and well behaved he is! I noticed Monte had runny stool. I tried to give him pumpkin to help, but he was not a fan of it. I gave him boiled chicken and probiotic to help sooth his stomach. I will keep and eye on him and see how he is feeling tomorrow.

Monte and I went to the park to work on his commands. We worked on his distance and duration. At home we practiced his food and door manners. He still has soft stool. I’m continuing to give him boiled chicken. I added some white rice with the chicken broth to help soak up whatever is bothering his tummy.

Today Monte and his friends went to Lowes to work on their obedience around distractions. He did very will with his off leash obedience. He did growl at a customer that walked up to him while he was in the down command. I gave Monte his ‘off’ commands and he stopped. One of the employees was able to pet and give Monte affection. I had Monte approach and sniff her first. Once I seen he was comfortable with the woman, I allowed her to pet him. Monte sat nicely while she gave him affection.

Today Monte took the day off from training and spent his last day playing and socializing with his friends before he goes home tomorrow. I gave him a bath so he could be nice and clean when he sees you, but it didn’t last long. He wrestled around with his buddies getting all dirty again. Monte has done an awesome job with his obedience! He can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
