Milo, a seven month old Golden Retriever, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our One Week Board and Train program. Milo comes to us with typical puppy behavior: being easily distracted, jumping to greet, pulling on the leash while walking, play biting, counter surfing, etc. Over the week Milo will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Milo is settling in well at my home. He was a little shy when meeting the rest of my pack, but he eventually warmed up to them. He has been enjoying hanging out and socializing with his new friends.

Today Milo and I went to the park to start working on his obedience. We practiced commands Sit, Place, and Heel. Place is a command where Milo must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for confidence building, as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Heel is a structured walk where Milo must walk at my side with a loose leash. It is still a work in progress, but Milo is walking much better. We also met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so he had plenty of distractions to work around. Milo had a great first day of training!

Today Milo and I went to Lowes to work on his obedience around distractions. He did very well. He was focused and obedient. The only time he was too excitable was when one of the employees wanted to pet Milo. Milo jumped up a few times, but I made him sit nicely in order to be pet. We worked on two new commands: Come to Sit and Down. We also worked on his duration, getting him to hold a sit and down longer. It is still a work in progress, but Milo is getting better.

Today Milo and I went to the mall to work on his obedience around distractions. The mall was pretty busy today, so Milo was able to work around many people distractions. He did a great job following all his commands! He received quite a few compliments on how well behaved he is.

Today Milo and I spent the day out at the beach. He worked on his obedience around many people and dog distractions. Once again, he did very well. Milo was focused and obedient. Milo had a few admirers that stopped to watch him train. His favorite part of the day was running and rolling around in the sand!

Today Milo and I trained at home. We worked on all his obedience commands. We worked on his distance and duration. Milo practiced his food manners, teaching that he needs to wait until I give him permission to eat the food I put down. We also worked on his door manners, teaching Milo that he can’t just go in or out because a door is open. He needs to sit and wait at thresholds until given permission to pass through.

Today Milo and I went for the park to work on his commands. We worked on his distance and duration. Once we got home Milo spent the rest of the day playing and socializing with his friends before he leaves tomorrow. I gave him a bath so he could be nice and clean when he sees you. Milo has done such a great job with his training! He can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
