Milo | Border Collie/Pit Bull Mix | San Pedro, CA | In-Training

Writer's picture: Amanda LascariAmanda Lascari

Milo, a three year old Border Collie/Pit Bull Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our one week board and train program. Milo comes to us with some bad habits: lack of following commands when distracted, leash pulling, jumping to greet, and barking. Over the next week Milo will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Milo has settled in well at my house. We had a little issue when we first got home. Milo didn’t would’t let me take him out of the car. He was barking and trying to bite my hand through the crate. I know it was only because he was scared. With some patience and some treat bribery he let me put the leash on him and take him out of the car. After he hopped out he was back to his happy self. He is having a blast with his new furry friends!

Today Milo and I worked on his training at home. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We worked on commands: Sit, Down, and Place. Place is a command where Milo must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching Milo to be calm and relaxed.

Today Milo and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced: come to sit, place, down, and heel. Heel is still a work in progress but Milo is walking a lot better now. He is staying close to my side and not trying do pull and drag me where he wants to go. He did very well with other people and dogs that he saw at the park. He wasn’t reactive and didn’t bark. Milo just sat and watched as they passed by.

Today Milo and I worked on his commands at home. We practiced all his commands. We are continuing to work on his duration. Milo is doing very well with staying focused and paying attention to me, even with his friends being a distraction. Milo got to celebrate my birthday with me today! He behaved very well with all my guests. He did get a bit excited and tried jumping up to greet, but once I corrected him he got down.

Today Milo and I went to the Citadel Outlets to work on his obedience commands around distractions. Milo was nervous and distracted with everything going on around us. After walking around for a bit, he calmed down and was able to focus.

Today Milo and I took a trip to Hollywood to work on his commands on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was very nervous with all the distractions going on around us, but we worked through it.

Today Milo and I went to the Block at Orange to work on his obedience. He did much better today, not as nervous. He followed all his commands and ignored other dogs passing by that were barking at him. He did get a little stubborn towards the end when he was tired, but overall did great job. Milo can’t wait to go home and show you all he has learned!
