Merlin | Boston Terrior | Los Angeles

Pupdate 9/29/2024

I am pleased to provide an update on Merlin, the Boston Terrier who is currently in our care for the next two weeks. Having previously trained Merlin, I can confidently say he has a wonderfully engaging and amiable temperament. He has quickly acclimated to my home environment, demonstrating a high level of comfort and ease in this new setting. Merlin has formed a positive rapport with my personal dog, Kilo, and they interact remarkably well together. Their companionship has added a delightful dynamic to our household, as they engage in play and exploration as good friends. Overall, Merlin is a welcome addition to my pack, and I am looking forward to sharing more about his progress and experiences during his stay. Thank you for entrusting me with his care.

Today was a laid-back day for Merlin. After a nice early morning walkā€”where his heeling is still solidā€”we met little Mochi, one of my other board-and-train dogs. I had expected them to be more curious and playful with each other, but they surprisingly just seemed to ignore one another. Iā€™m hopeful that as the days go by, theyā€™ll start to warm up and discover that they could be great playmates. Merlin & Kilo spent some time relaxing in the backyard in the afternoon, and we finished the day with a place training session.Ā

Merlin is doing great while boarding with me! Heā€™s settling in nicely and has adapted well to the routine. He's eager to explore and is enjoying his daily walks and playtime. Merlin is friendly and gets along well with the other dogs in myĀ care. He's been quiet at night and has been eating well, which is always a good sign. Overall, he seems happy and comfortable during his stay!

Merlin joined an early hike to enjoy the cooler morning temperatures, making the most of the day before the heat set in. Afterward, he had a great time playing and sunbathing with Kilo in the backyard, enjoying their time together. To wrap up his day, Merlin finished with a relaxing walk around the park, taking in the sights and sounds of his surroundings. It was a well-rounded day filled with outdoor fun and relaxation!

Merlin is settling in wonderfully during his stay with me! We had a nice long walk around downtown Montrose, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I attempted to introduce him to Mochi, but they mostly sniffed each other and then went their separate ways without any fuss. Since I had the supplies ready, I also gave Merlin a bath, and he looks great now! I tried to trim his nails with the dremel, and although he wasn't a fan at first, we made it through with the help of some peanut butter as a distraction.Ā

Today, I decided to introduce Merlin to a social group with my other dogs: Kilo, Bex, and Mochi. I noticed that Merlin was taking on the role of a "policeman," feeling the need to intervene whenever two dogs were playing independently. Instead of isolating him, I put his e-collar on and reintroduced him to the group so I could correct any policing behaviors. While it's perfectly fine for Merlin not to engage in play, he shouldn't insert himself between dogs that are having fun, as it's important for his own safety. Over time, he began to learn to ignore the other dogs more, which was a positive step forward!

Merlin is settling in nicely during his stay! He enjoys playing with my personal dog and is getting more comfortable in his surroundings. Weā€™re continuing to work on his socialization around Bex, and today he mostly decided to ignore her, which is a much better choice compared to yesterday. Overall, he's adjusted to the routine and is a pleasure to have around!Ā

Merlin is continuing to thrive during his stay! Weā€™ve been working on his socialization skills, and Iā€™m pleased to report that heā€™s making great progress.Ā Today, we spent some time in a more public setting, and Merlin handled the new environment remarkably well. He was more relaxed and engaged, showing curiosity without being overwhelmed. We practiced walking on a leash, and he displayed excellent focus despite the distractions around us.Ā

Merlin had an exciting day today! He attended the group training meetup, where we focused on his heeling around other dogs. Iā€™m happy to report that his heeling remains excellent, and he handled the distractions like a champ.

After training, he got to indulge in his favorite activityā€”rubbing in the grass! Itā€™s always great to see him enjoy himself like that. Later in the afternoon, we took a stroll around downtown Montrose. He was curious and engaged, taking in all the new sights and smells. Overall, it was a fantastic day for Merlin, filled with both training and fun!

Merlin joined Kilo and me for an early morning walk to Haines Canyon Trail, and it was a beautiful way to start the day. Later in the afternoon, he relaxed with Kilo in the backyard, and I couldnā€™t help but smile when I caught them sharing a bed togetherā€”super cute and a clear sign of their growing bond! He's been doing well overall, eating and pooping like normal, which is reassuring. Itā€™s great to see him so happy and comfortable in his environment!Ā

Merlin had a fun-filled day today! We started with a brisk walk in the park, where he met some friendly dogs and enjoyed sniffing all the new scents. In the afternoon, he had a play session with his favorite toy, a plush squeaky bone, and really got into it. No issues!Ā
