Meet Merlin! An three year old Bernedoodle from Long Beach Ca, is here attending our two week board and train program! Merlin is a huge cuddle bug with the softest coat! Merlin also has a great personality, but at times he does get nervous and scared around other people he's not used to. Merlin is here attending our program because Merlin has trouble walking on leash, reactivity to other dogs and people, along with learning his manners in and out of the house! Over the next two weeks Merlin and will will be working on our obedience on and off leash along with proofing behaviors in different settings and environments. Along with obedience, we will be working on proper socialization around other dogs and people, and manners in and out of the house on a daily basis! Tune in to Merlins blog on a daily basis to watch his progress!

Today in the afternoon Merlin and I worked on some engagement around my neighborhood, Merlin is a bit nervous and is still taking some time to adjust to me and my home as well. Over the next few days we will be working on building confidence, as well as working on our obedience with dogs around us as well. After our walk we went into my front yard and worked on more engagement along with some leash pressure from the slip lead for the sit command. Merlin is a sweetheart, he’s just a bit nervous. After a few days he should feel a lot better.

Today Merlin and I went to the local Park by my house in San Dimas Ca, to get some training in! Today we focused on seeing what Merlin’s knows for on leash obedience! Later tonight we will be introducing the ecollar tool the Merlin, only because he did so well on his on leash obedience and knew exactly what to do when he felt the leash pressure from the prong collar tool. Merlin is a very smart but , but at times his nervousness takes over and he becomes shut down at times. Overall Merlin did a great job on his on leash obedience for his heel, sit, and downs!

Today Merlin and I went back to the park to work more on Ecollar conditioning. Last time we worked on ecollar intro and pairing his commands with the Ecollar stimulation, which he did a great job picking up. In the video I used verbal along with some leash pressure with the Ecollar stimulation to communicate with Merlin. Merlin did a great job on his heel, and sit commands for the Ecollar stimulation. When it came to the down command Merlin was a bit stubborn. I took my time and showed him what the ecollar means along with some leash pressure from my foot to properly help communicate with him what the stimulation means and how to properly shut it off by just going to a down. Overall Merlin did a great job at working near Kisa and didn’t even seem to mind her at all.

Today Merlin and I went to our local Lowes in San Dimas Ca, to get some training in around distractions from different sounds and smells, along with the shoppers shopping around as well. Merlin did a great job at responding to the ecollar no matter the distractions around him, he was even able to hold his down command with people pushing carts by him. Merlin is slowly coming out of his shell day by day. I look forward to seeing the day he fully comes out of his shell. He’s still being a bit shy and weary around me at times. Overall he’s doing a great job on his obedience and responding to the ecollar stimulation.

Today Merlin and I went to the Santa Monica pier to work on more of our obedience commands around heavy distractions from other dogs and lots of people walking around us. Merlin has been doing a great job at working around other dogs, he acts like they don’t even exist. He does at times have a hard time with his down command, he’s fairly new to the ecollar so it’s totally understandable for him to be a bit stubborn. Merlin did a splendid job today working around lots of people and other pups!

Today Merlin and I went back to the local park in San Dimas Ca, to get some more training in! Today we focused on our off leash obedience and had the leash dragging, using the ecollar stim to communicate with Merlin. Merlin did a great job at his Heel , sit , down, and place commands . Today we focused on his come command, which directs him to us and loop around us from the right and sit on our left heel side. Merlin is still picking up the command, but has a solid understanding of what the ecollar stimulation means and how to properly shut it off!

Today Merlin and I worked in my driveway, utilizing the loud cars passing by as distractions. This weekend we have been using the ecollar a lot more and getting Merlin used to the ecollar feeling along with having him not rely on the leash pressure anymore. Merlin at first needs some times to warm up, he’s a fairly stubborn boy but after about 10 minutes, his stubbornness starts to go away. Merlin did a great job at everything today, except for the place command. He had a hard time getting on the cot today, so at times I just helped him with some leash pressure to guide him on the cot along with some stimulation from the ecollar as well. Once I see he has a fully understanding of the ecollar, then we will start adding more and more distractions.

Today Merlin and I worked a lot on our in-home manners. Just learning to relax in a Home setting around other pups. I had Merlin work on holding positions in different parts of the house while other dogs were walking around. Merlin also did a good job working on his door manners, teaching him to wait before entering or exiting a doorway! Merlin does really well around other dogs, no reactivity whatsoever, he just hangs out and relaxes around them and minds his own business, next week we will be working with his sister a lot more!

Today Merlin and I worked on our door manners around distractions from my siblings and other dogs walking around for our afternoon session. Later on in the evening we will be heading to Lowe’s to work more on our off leash obedience. Merlin is a good boy, he understands most of his commands now, we are also working on proofing all of his home manners as well because that’s one of the most important parts to his training. Merlin has a clear understand of waiting for the break command to enter or exit the doorway no matter if the door is open or closed. Merlin does at times gets very eager and tries to rush out the door, whenever he tries to do so I simply just put him back into the down command with the stimulation as well as closing the door repeatedly. I've also been adding cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, just to make his food a bit more exciting for him, because I have noticed nes been eating less.

Today Merlin and I went to the park in El Monte Ca, to meet up with some off leash members and their board and train pups, today we proofed all of his offleash obedience around distractions along with holding his positions for long periods of time. Merlin has a clear understanding of all of his commands, at times he does need time to warm up to his training. Merlin does have a bad habit of being stubborn at times. Whenever he does, I just take my time and show him the same picture everytime. Overall Merlin is a good boy and I will be giving him a bath tonight just because he did a get a bit muddy this morning.

Today Merlin and I went to Lowe’s to work on some off leash obedience. Unfortunately the manager had told us to put Merlin on the leash just for security reasons, only because there were forklifts working near by. Today Merlin and I worked on all of his obedience commands around distractions from a lot of different sounds! I even walked by Merlin with a large noisy push cart and he did absolutely amazing! Merlin was able to follow through with all of his commands with ease. Unfortunately we did have to do everything with the leash dragging, even so Merlin did a amazing job! Later on in the evening we will be working more on our in home manners, making sure he has a clear understanding of everything!

Merlin now has a clear understanding of all of the commands that’s being asked. When starting off our training day Merlin has about 5-10 minutes of being willful and pushing boundaries. During this time the level on the e-collar goes up to interrupt this behavior and reinforce the task. Merlin then starts to realize that it’s all the same stuff we’ve been working on. He definitely knows everything but will need consistency and structure for his daily to routine to help both him and you in the long run.

Today Merlin and I went to Del Amo Mall in Torrance CA, to get some training alongside his brother Oreo! Today my coworker and I took turns working Oreo and Merlin side by side together. At first you can tell they are not sure of it and Merlin at times is stubborn in the beginning of his session. After some time of us working with them, they started to pick things up a lot better and doing commands together side by side. Overall they both did a great job , but Merlin did struggle a bit working next to his brother. Merlin’s character finally came out when he saw his brother and I haven’t seen him this excited. Merlin and Oreo did a great job today working side by side after not seeing each other for awhile!
