Mango | XL Pit Bull | Redondo Beach, CA | In-Training

Mango, an eight month old XL Pit Bull, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train Program. He comes to us with some knowledge of commands, not walking properly on leash, being overexcited, easily distracted, jumping to greet, and chewing things he’s not suppose to. Over the two weeks Mango will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Mango is settling in well at my home. He got to meet  some of my pack. I can see why Mango can get in trouble at the dog parks. He can be a little overbearing and pushy, causing the other dogs to get upset with him. Once he finally calms down, the the other dogs are fine with him.

Today Mango and I went to the park to work on his commands. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down, Place, and Heel. He did very well and caught on to his commands quickly. Heel is still a work in progress, but Mango is is walking much better, staying closer to my side and not trying to drag me.

I attached a video link to my ecollar tutorial. I didn't send one home since you are out of town. You will be receiving the collar when we meet for Mango's turnover. Please review this video as many times as you need so you can become familiar with the training collar.

Today Mango and I went back to the park to work on his commands. We practiced  more on his Sit, Down, Place, and Heel. He was a little stubborn with the Down command. He did fine laying down on the dog cot, but when it came to the floor he wasn’t as willing to do so. We started working on his duration, holding his commands longer.

Today Mango and I went to Lowe’s to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a little distracted when we first arrived, but as we walked around and trained he was able to settle down and focus back on me. We practiced all his commands and worked on his distance and duration. We worked on a new command, Come to Sit. This command can be a little tricky, but Mango got the hang of it pretty quickly. Mango did a great job today!

Today Mango and I trained at home. We practiced all his commands and worked on his distance and duration. He is getting better with staying in his Sit, Down, and Place commands longer. We worked more on his Come to Sit, coming around to sit at my side. He does well when I’m close to him, but as I back up and try to distance myself Mango sometimes gets confused on where to go. We will keep practicing until he gets the hang of it.

Today Mango and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Mango had a dog distractions to work around. He was definitely interested in the other dogs, which made it hard for him to focus. After working around them for awhile, Mango was able to settle and focus back on his commands. When the dogs weren’t around he did very well. We were even able to work semi-off leash, letting Mango drag the leash around while we trained. We will continue to work around dogs and other distractions to get him sensitized to his surroundings.

Today Mango joined me on a little shopping spree at the mall. It was very crowed, so Mango had plenty of distractions to work around. When we first arrived he was definitely distracted with all the commotion going on around us, but as we walked around and trained he was able to settle down and focus back on me. We weren’t able to work semi-off leash since the crowd was a little too much for him, but Mango did well and followed all his commands. He received quite a few compliments on how well behaved he is. He tried his hardest to sit nicely while people pet him but Mango would get to excited and get up to say hi.

Today Mango and I went to the mall to work on his obedience around distractions. There was a good amount of people distractions. Mango did much better today being focused and following his commands. We were able to work semi-off leash. Mango had quite a few admirers that watched him train. We just need to tighten up a few of his commands and then he will be ready to work completely off leash. Mango has made a new friend, Ellie. He is excited to finally have someone at the house that has the same energy and wants to play with him all the time.

Today Mango and I went to a local shopping center to work on his commands. He did pretty well with his off leash obedience. He was a little stubborn with his down command, but I made sure he followed through. Mango did very well with his heel. The only time he got distracted when we passed by a little girl playing. He kept trying to stop and watch the girl, but I had him continue on with his heel. There were two ladies watching us train that were impressed with Mango’s obedience

Today Mango and I trained at home. We worked on all us commands. I used his friends as a distraction and let them play while we trained. It was a little hard for him at first because the other dogs would come up taunt and try to play with him. As we continued to practice Mango was able to ignore them and focus on his commands. Mango spent the rest of the day playing and socializing with his friends before he goes home tomorrow. He has done an awesome job with his training! He can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
