Mango | Maltipoo | Playa Del Rey, CA | In Training
Meet Mango! She's a twenty two month old Maltipoo from Playa Del Rey, California here for our Two-Week Board and Train program! Mango has some issues with following basic commands, barking at people and other dogs, and submissive peeing. Over the next two weeks we will show Mango how to behave on and off leash, how to properly greet people and dogs, and make Mango the best pup she can be! Stay tuned for Mango's fourteen day transformation!
After picking up Mango, we went to Reseda Park and spent some time getting to know each other! She seems to be taking to me quite well, even though she barked at me when she first saw me! After the park, we went to my house. I let Mango sniff around my house for a bit and get used to staying here with me!
Mango and I went to Brookhurst Park today for her first full day of training! We worked on her Heel and Come To Sit commands. For Heel, I'd like Mango to walk at my left side with her ears in line with my legs, without pulling forward or veering off to the side. For Come To Sit, I want Mango to come to my right side, go around my legs, and sit at my left side. Mango's Heel is already getting pretty good! She still needs some work on her Come To Sit, as she sometimes wants to stop halfway through. She still did an amazing job, especially for her first full day!
Mango and I went to Home Depot today for training! There were certain noises, especially in the lumber section, that seemed to spook Mango a small amount, but she took every step in stride and ended up having a great day! We worked on her Place command today! For this command I want Mango to hop up onto a raised object when asked! She was very hesitant at first. For example, I wanted her to hop onto a step stool, and it took a few tries for Mango to gain the confidence. As you can see in one of her pictures from today, she finally succeeded! This command should help boost Mangos confidence all around!
Mango and I went to Almansor Park today for training! She did an amazing job! She was very chipper and engaged with me the entire time. She was able to perform her commands with a very loose leash. This means, most of the time, she was performing without me having to create leash tension to guide her in the right direction. We started working on her Down command today! She got the hang of it very quickly.
As far as Mango's eating habits, it was mentioned Mango sometimes won't eat unless someone is standing with her. I have been offering her dinner and walking away, and she usually will eat her food right away. I believe this is because Mango has been getting a ton of extra exercise in my care, and therefore becomes much more hungry by the time she is offered dinner.
Mango and I went to Citadel Outlets today for training! This was the busiest place Mango has gone so far, but she did a great job! She didn't seem to mind the people. Her biggest distraction so far seems to be squirrels! Mango went through each of her commands today with very little trouble!
Mango and I went to Fashion Island today for training! She did a great job! I noticed that she's become quite attached to me, so I wanted to have another trainer work with her to see if she could perform her commands with someone other than me! She seemed very focused on me while working with the other trainer, however, she was able to adapt fairly well and ended up doing a good job!
Mango and I went to Almansor Park for training! She started performing her commands with her leash dragging on the ground today. Letting her leash drag on the ground allows me to get an idea of how she might perform off leash while still having the leash available if needed. She did a great job with this! There were times where she would hesitate a bit more when asked to perform her commands, but she always followed through!
Mango and I went to Citadel Outlets today for training! She continued her work with the leash dragging. She did very well all day, even with so many distractions around. She also managed to jump all the way up into my car this morning! Prior to this, I've had to help her up into the car each time. I wasn't sure if she would be able to, due to her tiny legs, but she proved herself today!
Mango and I went to Pan Pacific Park today for training. She was fully off leash for most of the time, and she did a great job! She was very attentive and she seemed happy to be off leash! She was able to hop into my car by herself again today, however she only did so with a lot of encouragement and with her leash attached.
Mango went to the park today for more off leash training! In the above video, you'll see how good Mango is getting with her Heel! There's only one small mistake in her video. When we walk past the hotdog stand, Mango veers toward it for a second, but she quickly corrects the mistake!
Mango and I went to Maple Park today for training! As usual, she did a great job! She was off leash for most of the day. It was raining early this morning, and Mango didn't seem to like the puddles, but other than that she had a really good day!
Mango and I went to Citadel Outlets today for training! She was off leash for most of the day! She seemed a little bit more nervous than usual. I believe she got spooked by a couple of particularly loud pomeranians, who were at Citadel Outlets near us. That being said, she still performed each of her commands very well! For her video today I wanted to show some of the house manners Mango has been working on!
Mango and I went to Citadel Outlets today for training! She was off leash for most of the day. She wasn't nearly as nervous as she seemed yesterday, and was very confident as she went through each of her off leash commands!
Mango went to Citadel Outlets one last time with me today! She did an amazing job, as she has the whole time she's been with me. In the above video you will see Mango perform each of the commands she's learned in the last two weeks, as well as holding her positions for a full two minutes each! Mango is such a sweet dog, and I will miss working with her each day when she goes home!
