Maisie | English Pointer | San Pedro, CA | In-Training

Maisie, a six month old English Pointer, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Three Week Board and Train program. She comes to us with typical puppy behavior: little knowledge of commands, non walking properly on leash, jumping to greet, being easily distracted, and chewing on things she’s not suppose to. Over the three weeks Maisie will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Maisie is getting settled in at my home. She was shy and a bit nervous when meeting her new friends. She eventually warmed up to them and started being playful.

Today Maisie and I went to the park to work on her commands. We practiced Sit, Place, and Heel. She caught on very quickly to Place. Heel is still a work in progress but she is walking so much better, staying close to my side rather than trying to drag me around. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Maisie had plenty of dog distractions to work around. Maisie had a great first day of training!

Today Maisie and I went to Lowe’s to work out of the heat and work around distractions. She was nervous with all the distractions and noises, but still able to listen and follow her commands. She was timid when passing by people. She would watch them as we passed by, even turning around to keep an eye on them as we passed. As we spent time there training, Maisie was  able to relax. She is getting better at the Down command. It is still hard for her to hold the command, but she is more willing to follow through with lying down.

Today Maisie and her friends, Javier and Sasha, joined me on a little shopping spree at the mall. They worked on their obedience as a pack. Maisie was a little distracted when we first arrived, but as we walked around and trained she was able to settle down and focus back on her commands. She did very well around all the people distractions.

Today Maisie and I went to a local shopping center to work on her commands. She started working semi-off leash today! I let her drag the leash around while we trained. Maisie did pretty well. We need to tighten up a few of her commands and work on her distance with me before we start working completely off leash. She is a little timid when we go to new areas, so all she wants to do is stay close to me. We will continue to work on building her confidence when going to now places.

Today Maisie and I went to the park to work on her commands. We started working on her canine good citizen requirements. She must pass all 10 requirements in order to receive a certificate. This is all completed without an ecollar. Maisie did very well and completed all the requirements.

Today, Maisie and I went the mall to work on off leash obedience around distractions. Once again, she was very well behaved and listened to all her commands. Everywhere we go, Maisie is receiving compliments on how cute and well mannered she is. Keeping her in a sit while giving her affection helps with keeping her calm and not having the excited pee accidents. She hasn’t had any of those accidents in a while.

Today, Maisie and I stayed home to train. We practiced all her commands. I used her friends as a distraction and let them play while we trained. She did very well and stayed focused, even though she wanted to join in on playtime. We tried a new command today, Block. This was a bit tricky, but Maisie is starting to get the hang of it. We will keep practicing.

Pupdate 9/16/2023

Today Maisie and I stayed home again and do some light training. We continued to practice the Block command. It is still a bit tricky for her but is starting to get the concept. I let her spend the rest of the day playing and socializing with her friends before she goes home tomorrow. I have her a bath so she can be nice and clean when she sees you. Daisy has done an awesome job with her training! She can't wait to go home and show you everything she has learned!
