Luna, 9 month old Cane Corso, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train Program. She comes to us with some knowledge of commands, being easily distracted, not walking properly on leash, dog reactivity, and being protective over her owners. Over the two weeks Luna will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Luna is getting settled in at my home. She is a bit nervous and shy in her new surroundings. She got to meet a few my dogs. She did growl once, only because she’s nervous, but she didn’t try to lunge or bark at them. For now I will keep her separated and let her get adjusted at my home.

Today Luna and I went to the park to work on her obedience. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so she had plenty of dog distractions to work around. She was definitely reactive towards them, so we stayed at a distance to train around them. Eventually she settled down and was able to focus on her training. We practiced Sit and Heel today. Heel is still a work in progress, but she is walking much better and staying close to my side.

Today Luna and I stayed home to train. We practiced a new command, Place. She did a great job and caught on to her new command quickly. She is still a bit uncomfortable around the other dogs, but she’s no longer growling at them.

Today Luna and I went to the park to work on her obedience. We practiced two new commands, come to sit and down. She did very well with the down command, but was having a little trouble with come to sit. That’s okay, this command can be a bit tricky so we will keep on practicing. Luna did a great job today.

Today Luna and I went to the mall to work on her obedience around distractions. She surprised me and actually did very well. I could tell she was a bit nervous by the way she was licking her lips and focusing on everything around us. Every time she would start to get distracted I would get her attention with the ecollar to focus back on me. Luna even allowed another trainer to handle her. She didn’t try to growl, bark, or lunge. She was very responsive to him. She did awesome today!

Today Luna and I went to the mall to work on her obedience around distractions. She did pretty well around the people distractions. Only one time she did growl at a gentleman that approached us, but when I corrected her she stopped. Dog distractions were a bit harder. She would pull and bark when seeing another dog. We met with another OffLeash SoCal trainer and his dog, so Luna and I could work closely around another dog. We were able to get close to the other dog and walk along side it, after some time training. I Luna is very visual and doesn’t use her nose, so when she sees a dog she becomes reactive right away. I don’t think she is trying to be aggressive because she does great with all the other dogs at my home. I believe she just doesn’t know how to properly greet another dog.

Today Luna and I went to the park to work on her obedience around less distractions. She did very well. She stayed focused on me and listened to all of her commands. We had a few dogs that passed by us while we were training. She got a little huffy at first, but when I told her ‘off’ she stopped and just watched them pass by.

She was a bit unsure of them, but still listen and follow the commands. I tried socializing with a few puppies. I could tell she wanted to be playful, but wasn’t fully comfortable around them either.

Today Luna and I went to the mall to work on her obedience around distractions. I think it is starting to click for Luna now, because she did an awesome job! She wasn’t reactive towards anyone. She saw a little dog that was trying to pull its way towards her. She stayed in in her down command and just watched it pass by. You can see in the video when she became a little nervous or uncomfortable she would come towards me, but not once did she growl or become reactive. I was even able to drop the leash and let her drag it while we worked. I am really proud of Luna!

Today Luna and I went to the beach to work on her obedience around distractions. She did very well. She was focused and obedient. She walked by people and dogs perfectly, out any reactions. Luna only reacted one time, whiny little dog was lunging and barking at her, but when I told her off, she stopped and went back to focusing on me. She received many compliments on how well behaved she is.

Today Luna and I stayed home for training. We worked on all of her commands. We practiced her distance and duration. We worked on her door manners, teaching Luna she isn’t allowed to pass thresholds until given permission. She said goodbye to her best friend today, since he went home after his training, but helped me welcome a new training buddy into the pack today, Maximus the Cane Corso puppy . Luna was very friendly and is getting along well with him.

Today Luna and I went to Lowes to stay out of the heat and work on her obedience around distractions. She did pretty well. We passed by people, shopping carts, and a few other dogs with no issues. There was one little dog that was barking at Luna as we were walking through garden section. Luna looked at the dog, I told her ‘off’, and we were able to pass by smoothly without any reactivity. The only time she growled was when a lady tried to approach Luna to say hello, which you can see in the video. You can also see after the woman leaves, there are a few people that pass by Luna, very close by, and she is fine. I am noticing she doesn’t like people approaching her and giving her eye contact.

She reactive one time, with an excited golden retriever that was trying run up to say hi. Luna growled but backed away from the dog. We also worked on a new command, Under. She caught on pretty quickly to new command. I noticed Luna had some very soft stool today. I added some anti-diarrhea liquid to her kibble to help settle whatever is bothering her stomach. I will keep an eye on it and see how she is feeling tomorrow.

Today Luna and I went to the park to work on her off leash obedience. We met with another trainer and his dog, so Luna could work around dog distractions. She did very well, even with the other dog growling at her. Luna ignored the dog, stayed focused on me and followed her commands. At home we worked on her food manners. Her stool is still the same. I replaced her kibble white rice, broth, and pumpkin today to see if that helps soak up whatever is bothering her tummy.

Today Luna and her buddy, Maximus, worked on their obedience commands together. Luna assisted me with teaching the puppy to follow his commands off leash. She did very well and followed all her commands. The rice seems to really be helping her tummy. Her stool is starting to look more solid.
