Welcoming Luna! Luna is a one-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier from Harbor City, CA, here for our one-week board & train program. She has joined us for help with leash reactivity, unwanted barking, lunging during walks, over-excitement, and not following directions when given. Luna is a very smart dog who already shows some training foundation. She’s driven, eager to learn, and ready to make great progress. Stay tuned for Luna’s one-week transformation!

The drive home today was smooth and quiet; she remained silent the entire time and was super polite when getting out of the car. I gave her a full hour to explore and smell everything around my home and yard, and she gradually started to open up and show interest in playtime. After playing with her for a bit, I began introducing training, and as shown in the video, she quickly picked up some agility tricks. I then introduced basic commands such as “sit,” “down,” “place,” “off” with food, and “break.” She demonstrated some foundation for “sit” and “down” but still lacks attention. However, she responds very well to leadership and guidance and, even on day one, has already shown she’s capable of learning new things quickly! I’m excited for the coming week—stay tuned for Luna’s pupdates!

Today, Luna and I started with a brief morning walk where we practiced “heel,” and she did very well. Later, we visited a large park filled with distractions and met with other trainers from Off Leash SoCal and their board-and-train dogs. Luna impressed me with how quickly she’s picking things up, already holding her “sit,” “down,” “heel,” and getting onto “place.” In the pictures, you’ll see her sitting during our team meeting, practicing impulse control, and staying attentive to me as I redirected her whenever she became fixated on distractions. We also worked on this with squirrels, bikes and trained her around the other dogs as well. I’m very pleased with her progress—stay tuned for Luna’s pupdates!

Today, Luna and I started with another brief morning walk where we practiced “heel,” and she continues to impress. Later, we took a trip to Bella Terra in Huntington Beach and had a lot of fun together. Luna is very cute and attracts plenty of attention. In the video, you’ll see us practicing “Greeting Manners,” extended “Sit,” “Place and Sit,” and “Come to Sit.” She is performing everything asked of her very well, and I’m so happy she’s here with me learning. Incorporating training in more crowded areas is a great way to build her confidence quickly, and tomorrow, I’ll be moving her training to an even more densely crowded area to see how she does—I have a strong feeling she’s going to excel! Stay tuned for Luna’s pupdates!

Happy New Year! Today, Luna and I began our day with a morning walk and stopped by our local park to practice all her obedience commands. Later, we took a trip to Target to pick up some groceries and practiced in a retail store setting. Luna is doing very well, almost constantly drawing attention to herself with how well-behaved she remains during training and greetings. We are still proofing her “down” command a bit, as she demonstrated some hesitation with it in the retail store today. I’m not worried about this, as practice makes perfect, and once in position, she holds her “down” and stays attentive to me—be sure to note this in the video. She’s doing great, and we had a wonderful time today! Stay tuned for Luna’s pupdates!

Today, Luna and I started our day with a long walk, continuing to shape her “heel” command, and She’s doing amazing at staying attentive to me. We also stopped by the local park to practice obedience commands, and later at home, I spent some time proofing her door and food manners. These exercises are great for building impulse control and teaching dogs to remain focused and patient in various situations, which helps them stay attentive to their handler. By reinforcing these skills, Luna is learning to trust guidance and wait for clear signals before acting. She passed with flying colors, demonstrating that she can wait at the door to be let out with permission and leave food until asked to “break”—the release command we use to let the dogs know it’s okay to break position. In the video, you’ll also see that we took a second long walk to Bella Terra, where we continued all obedience training. Tomorrow, we’ll be heading to Cerritos Mall to practice even more, so stay tuned for Luna’s upcoming pupdates!

Today, Luna and I started our day with another walk, continuing to practice the “heel” command. She passed with flying colors, staying attentive to me even when walking by distractions such as squirrels and other dogs. We spent some time playing in our yard this morning before heading to the Cerritos Mall, where we practiced all obedience commands. As shown in the video, she performed everything asked of her. While she was initially a bit timid around the larger crowd, she maintained her calmness, did wonderfully with greetings, and responded well to guidance, encouragement, and plenty of praise, combined with low stimulation on the e-collar. She did an excellent job in public spaces, and after she goes home, I would definitely encourage her parents to practice these exercises regularly to continue building her confidence. I look forward to showing Luna’s parents everything she’s learned—stay tuned for Luna’s last pupdate!

Today, Luna and I started our day with a brief walk, and she did an amazing job holding her “heel”—She’s performing it 100% of the time now and stays attentive to me also while also doing a great job ignoring distractions, and if she does slip up, a quick guide with low stimulation on the e-collar and leash pressure always gets her back on track. Afterward, we spent some time playing in the yard to get her extra wiggles out before heading out for a big shopping haul. In the video, you’ll see us practicing obedience training at various locations, including Target, Albertsons, and a quick stop at a pet store, where Luna performed wonderfully—I tip my hat to her! We also captured how patiently she “sits” and waits for me to open the crate door in my car before loading up. I’ve seen her come out of her shell and grow more confident in just a matter of days, and it will be crucial for her to continue everything she’s learned with me once she’s back home to help her feel even more comfortable in the world. Luna demonstrates incredible learning ability, and I feel she’s well on her way to becoming an even more balanced dog than she already is. She has done an outstanding job and deserves plenty of praise for her hard work! While I’m sad to see her go, our time together is soon coming to a close, and I’m excited for her go-home lesson—this will be our last Pupdate together. Bye, Luna!
