Louis| Australian Labradoodle| Anaheim, CA | In-Training

Meet Louis, a 5 month Australian Labradoodle from Anaheim, CA! Louis is a typical energetic, goofy, rambunctious pup. Louis loves to chew on his leash during walks with his owner. When Louis meets people, he sometimes jumps on them or pees due to excitement. While he is with us, Louis will be learning basic obedience, leash manners, and overall how to be a better member of the family! Stay tuned for his Two Week Transformation!

Today Louis and I spent most of the day taking walks around the neighborhood. I wanted him to get acclimated to his new surroundings! When we arrived home Louis did have a potty accident in my kitchen. This happens when pups are nervous in a new environment. After spending a little bit of time here he has become more relaxed. Training will start tomorrow so he has extra time to become more comfortable. We've spent some quality time in my family room just sitting on the floor together! He is a very sweet boy and loves getting pets!

Today Louis was nervous whenever I approached his kennel. To take him out with ease, I attached a long leash to him to better guide him out of the kennel. Since it was raining most of the day, I decided to work him in the front of my home. During our first training session, I introduced Heel, Sit, and Come! I used freeze dried chicken to entice him and be excited to learn! He did really great and was picking things up fairly quickly!

Louis still displays some nervous behaviors anytime I move too quickly or any loud noise occurs. He also becomes over excited when given physical affection, resulting him to pee a little. To try and curb that behavior, I am going to try to use verbal praise more often. Overall, Louis’s first day of training went great and he loved learning!

Today we started with a walk around the neighborhood to let Louis get his puppy energy out before training! We played tug and romped around on some grass! After some romping around, Louis and I worked a little bit on Heel, Sit, and Come using some food motivation. I want to make sure that training is as enjoyable as possible so he retains what he learns! Louis is very sharp and wants to work! Later on in the day we went to a quiet area near my house and continued working on Heel, Come, and Sit. Right now, Louis heels perfectly for about 5 minutes before he gets distracted and tries to play. Usually when this happens, I just gently tell him “no, heel” and he will get right back into the correct position and continue to heel! With Louis’s Sit he has a very hard time with staying in that command due to being a puppy and getting overly excited. We will be working on that a lot this week and introducing Down, and Place! So far he is doing amazing and is learning very fast! Very proud of his few days so far!

We started the morning with an early structured walk and worked primarily on Heel, Sit, and Come! Louis is doing great with heel and loves to stay close and follow where I walk! He has gotten a lot better about not chewing the leash. Sometimes while on a walk if he has a temper tantrum, he will try to bite the leash. Usually I just tell him “off” and he will stop immediately! Later on, we went to a recreational park and started teaching Place and Down! He did resist when teaching down because he didn’t like feeling the slight leash pressure. After a few minutes of repetition with the command he got way more comfortable! Louis picked up Place very quickly and loved sitting on benches and chairs outside!

Today Louis and I started our morning with an early structured walk where we worked on Heel, Sit, Down, and Come! He has gotten much better at his duration sit and will stay for about 5-10 minutes at a time. This is super huge for Louis because he wasn’t able to stay still for more than a few seconds! Later on we went to The Outlets and worked on Down, Come, Heel, Place, and Sit! Louis has gotten a bit better with his down command and needs maybe 1 or 2 reminders! I’m very proud of his progress in just a few days!

Today Louis and I started our morning with a structured walk! During this time, we worked on Heel, Down, Come, and Sit! Louis has gotten so much better at walking next to my leg instead of trying to pull me on the leash! He also has gotten over his leash biting for the most part! He will only bite the leash if he gets scared of something and feels the leash tension, but once you say “off” he will immediately stop! He did have one accident in his crate when I left to do some errands. Later on in the day we went to a mall and continued working on Heel, Place, Down, and Come! I am very proud of his progress this week and will work with him on his duration commands!

Today we started our morning with an early walk and primarily focused on Louis’s Down and Come! He does over-all very well with his recall, but sometimes gets too excited and tries to play. Afterwards we worked at a mall to focus on distractions! He was very well behaved and only broke his commands one time! Big progress! Once we got home, I worked a bit on Door manners because Louis gets very excited when he knows we are going outside. It took a couple tries to get Louis to stay in a Sit while I opened the door, but he figured it out and did very well!

Today Louis and I took a morning walk around the neighborhood and worked on Heel, Place, Down, and Come! He did really well and has no issues with Heel and Sit and is super sharp! With Down, Louis sometimes assumes you’re about to release him and will get up but will go back into a down if reminded! Later in the day we went to a populated park and worked on Down while near another dog to help with his excitement around other pups! He did very well and only had to be reminded one time!

Louis and I started our morning with a walk around the neighborhood to help get some puppy energy out before training! Louis is so energetic and loves to run around and play as much as possible. After some playtime, we went to The Collection where we worked on Heel, Down, Come, and Place! With Louis still being a puppy, his puppy energy will sometimes get the best of him! While working on Come, he sometimes would get extremely excited to run back to me and want to play. To get him out of this moment, I would say “enough” and he would calm down afterwards! While working on Down, if I verbally praise him in a high voice tone he would get overly excited and break his command. The best way to counter him getting too excited is by using a more mono toned voice or staying as calm as possible when praising him! Louis’s heel is very good and he loves to stay close and will check in with you by giving eye contact! When we worked on Place, Louis does well most of the time, but will struggle if the surface he is sitting on is slippery which will cause him to slide into a down. Overall, Louis is a very happy go lucky boy who is very driven by praise and affection!

Today Louis and I had our scheduled morning walk and worked on Heel, Down, Place, and Come. He did very well and we even played on some grass for a bit! Later on we went to a tennis court to practice having Louis offleash while doing all of his commands! Since it was a bit hotter, we kept the training session short and even played with a tennis ball! When we got home, I let Louis relax and cool down before working on door manners. I’m very excited to see Louis progressing and enjoying himself!

We started the morning with an early structured walk offleash and worked on Heel, Down, Come, Sit, and Place! Louis did amazing with Heel and loves to stay close and check in during the walk. Louis still gets wiggly sometimes when getting praised physically, so I don’t put my hands near him unless I have released him from his command. This helps prevent the excitements peeing and the puppy wiggling during training! Later on we went to an indoor mall and worked on Heel, Place, Down, Come, and Sit! He did very well and only messed up one time with his Duration Down. When he did get up from that command, instead of using my hands to get him back down, I instead crossed my arms to make it very clear that I wasn’t going over to pet him. I repeated “down” until he did the command and verbally praised when he completed the command! Overall I am very proud of Louis’s progress!

Started our morning with an early walk offleash and worked on Heel, Sit, Place, Come. Louis is SUPER sharp with Heel while walking and really enjoys being close to me! Later on we went to an outdoor mall and practiced putting all of his commands together while offleash and some small distractions! He was very well behaved and we played a bit after his session! Later in the evening, once it got cooler we went to The Block and worked on all of his commands! He was such a good boy and enjoyed hanging out afterwards!
