Kyra | Labrador Retriever Mix | La Habra, CA | In - Training

Say Hello to Kyra, the Labrador Retriever Mix, from La Habra. She is here for our Two-Week Board and Train to learn how to work around distractions. She understands some of the basics but gets too excited when out and about. She loves saying hi but due to her size jumping up to say hi is not the safest. She loves playing fetch and hanging out with her family, whether outside or on the couch, but she is easily distracted and pulls on the leash. Watch how much she grows over the next two weeks!

Kyra spent her first day getting to know her new surroundings. She met my family and definitely tried to say hi to everyone, which we will be working on. She was very eager to check out all the surroundings and eat her carrots on new place objects like my treadmill and the vet scale. We went for a walk to work on her recall and she met my neighbor and at first, she laid down to say hi but then tried to jump on him. She is not a fan of going in the crate, but once she is inside, she enjoyed watching everyone passing by and settling into napping without fussing. She ate some of her food but was too distracted to want to finish her food. The temperature was 75 degrees today.

Kyra went to the park today to work on her commands. She worked on her recall around mild distractions. We also worked on sit and down, while adding a bit of distance. She is a smart cookie who loves her carrots. She worked on not jumping up on people and her manners around the crate, her food, and the door. She was still too distracted with all the new smells and things going on to eat all her breakfast but by dinner, she ate her food like a champ.

Kyra made some new friends today. She worked on recall and come to sit while around other dogs! She was a bit nervous around some but eager to play with others. So we worked on positive exposure while building her confidence in me. Which led to working on place, a great confidence builder! She watched a great movie called Spies in Disguise, while on place. We also worked her on the treadmill as another place. She was actually excited! She definitely felt very confident walking on the treadmill I didn't even need to bribe her with carrots! She is eating really well and enjoying some evening snuggles after a hard day's work.

Kyra spent the day working on recall and manners. We began door manners, crate manners, and food manners. She likes running through things, like the door, or when it's food time, or to get in and out of the crate. We worked on her waiting politely on her own when coming in and out of the house especially when the other dogs are around. She worked on recall in the yard while she was very distracted playing with her new friend. It was a warm day today, and she decided while I was watering, she would put her feet and face in the giant water bowl and play with the water. She is not a fan of having to sit at boundaries, so we worked on her sitting before she went in and out the door or getting her food. She is easily distracted which made waiting in a sit so boring for her but we are working on it. She enjoyed being on place while I did some work on the computer.
