Kona, a five month old Belgian Malinois, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Kona comes to us with little knowledge of commands, being easily distracted, pulling on the leash while walking, being reactive towards strangers, jumping, and nipping. Over the two weeks Kona will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Kona is settling in well at my home. He was a bit timid around his new friends when he first met them. Kona has warmed up to them and started playing.

Today I took Kona to the park to work on his obedience. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Come, and Place. Place is a command where Kona must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. We met with other Offleash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so Kona was able to work around dog distractions. Kona had a great first day of training!

Today Kona and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced more of his Place, Sit, and Come commands. We worked on a new command, Heel. It is still a work in progress but Kona is walking much better now; being more focused on me and staying at my side.

Today Kona and I went to Lowes to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a bit distracted when we first got there, but as we walked around and practiced his commands, Kona settled down and focused. He is getting better at not being so reactive to his surroundings. Kona huffed at a few people that passed by us, but didn't lunge and bark like when he first met me.

Today Kona and I stayed home and worked on his obedience commands. I used his friends as distractions and let them play while we trained. It was a little hard for Kona to focus because he wanted to join in on the fun, but I made sure he followed through with his commands. Once training was over he got to run around and play with his buddies.

Today Kona and I went to a local shopping center to work on his obedience around distractions. He did really well following all his commands. There were a few boys on bicycles that Kona watch as they rode around us. He didn't bark or lunge towards them. The boys were actually impressed by Kona and gave him a few compliments on how well behaved he is.

Today Kona and I went to The Citadel Outlets to work on his commands around distractions. It was very busy today. He was a little overwhelmed with all the distractions in the beginning, but as we walked around and practiced his commands, Kona was able to settled down and focus more. Kona got to work semi-off leash. I let him drag the leash around while we practiced. He did pretty well, especially with all the commotion going on around us. He only made a few mistakes. We need to tighten up a few of his commands and soon Kona will be ready to work completely off leash.
