Kaya, an eight year old German Shepherd, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our two week board and train program. Kaya is a sweet girl that loves people and dogs, but is reactive when on leash. She knows her commands but lacks following commands if distracted. Over the next two weeks Kaya will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Today I introduced and conditioned Kaya to the ecollar. We went to the park to work on her commands. We practiced sit, down, heel, and place. She did pretty good with her commands, but we need more work on her holding the commands longer. She was a bit nervous and distracted at the park, but we worked through it. Heel is still a work in progress but she's walking a lot better, staying at my side and not trying to pull me where she wants to go. Place is a command where Kaya must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching Kaya to be calm and relaxed.

Kaya and I worked on her obedience commands around the neighborhood today. She did a very good job! She knows her commands, but we need to work her through her anxiousness. At first she had her tail tucked, shake, and pant, but as we kept working through her commands Kaya relaxed and was able to focus on me.

Today I took Kaya to the park to work on her commands. She did better today, less anxious and no shaking or panting. She saw other dogs and didn't react to them. She followed her commands and ignored the other dogs as they passed by us.

Today Kaya and I went to Lowe's to work on her commands around some distractions. She was very nervous when we got there. In the video you can see her tail tucked, panting, and she does a nervous paw lift. As I worked her through her anxiousness, Kaya started to relax. You see her tail come out from between her legs and her panting slowly calms. We worked a lot on her come to sit command. Since she is nervous you can see her either try to hide behind me or try to sit in front of me. We tried to do some off leash training, letting her drag the leash while following commands. Kaya is getting there, but not quite ready yet.

Today Kaya and I worked on her obedience commands at home. She is doing a great job! We are still working on her off leash training, she knows when the leash is off and thinks she doesn't have to listen. Today was the first day she played with my German Shepherd. She's been wanting to play but has been following Chaz's lead and not socializing.

Today I took Kaya and Chaz to the park to work on their commands together. They did pretty well. I was able to Heel them without holding onto their leashes. It was a little sloppy, Kaya lagging behind and Chaz wanting to walk ahead, but not bad for their first time together.

Today I took Kaya and Chaz down to Huntington Beach. The US Open for Surfing was going on, so there were a bunch of distractions to work around. Kaya did an awesome job down at the beach today. She was off leash heeling by me and her brother, ignoring all the people and dog distractions around us.
