Kai| Great Dane| San Pedro, CA| In-Training

Meet Kai, a 1 year old Great Dane from San Pedro, CA! Kai will be joining Offleash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train Program! Kai loves to use her large size to pull her owners around while walking on the leash and gets distracted easily. When meeting new people, Kai loves to say hi by jumping, which can be very intimidating to young kids! During her stay, Kai will be working on Leash Manners, Greeting Manners, and Basic Obedience! Stay tuned for her Pupdates!

This afternoon Kai and I spent the rest of the day taking walks around the neighborhood so that she could adjust to her new surroundings! We spent some time relaxing on the grass at the park and getting acquainted with each other! Kai is such a gentle and sweet girl that enjoyed getting head rubs and belly rubs! Even though she pulled on the leash most of the walk, I wasn’t too worried because we will start her training tomorrow. Today is just about letting Kai acclimate and decompress from traveling and being in a new place! Due to Kai not staying still during weight check, her weight might not be consistent for the next day or two. I will try and get a more accurate weight for her soon!

Today Kai and I started the morning with a relaxing walk around the neighborhood to focus on teaching Heel. She did fairly well with learning the command but sometimes would try and use her large size to take me in another direction. When this would happen, I would give her a slight leash pop and remind her to Heel. After about 20 minutes, Kai walked very nicely the rest of our walk! Later we went to a quiet park and introduced Place, Come, and Down! She did very well figuring out the Place and Down command but struggled a little with Come. After about 10-15 minutes of working on the command, she figured it out and performed very nicely! She ate her food this morning and ate half of her dinner.

Today Finn and I started the morning with a structured walk around the neighborhood and focused on Heel, Come, and Sit! He was very well behaved during our training session and needed little to no reminders! He is a very smart boy and wants to do the right thing! Later we went to a park and worked on Place, Down, and Come! Again he has very little issues with his commands and was very calm while around other dogs!

Later we stopped at a mall and worked on Heel, Come, Place, and Down! Kai did very well with most of her command but struggled to get into a down. Once she was in the Down, she did very well. Today Kai and I started the morning with a structured walk around the neighborhood and focused on Heel, Come, Sit, and Down. She did fairly well and she has gotten a lot better with staying next to me while heeling and doesn’t wander away as much! She still struggles a bit with her Down and performs the commands slowly. Later we went to a Park and focused on Place, Down, and Come! We started adding duration and distance which she had a bit of a hard time with due to wanting to follow me and stay close.

Today Kai and I started the morning with our routine structured walk around the neighborhood and focused on Heel, Down, Come, and Sit! She did fairly well and did her commands without many reminders! Later we stopped at a Park and practiced having her do her commands without holding the leash! She did really great and only made a few minor mistakes. Her Heel was very good most of the time but had one hiccup where she got a smelled something on a bush and wanted to investigate. I did grab the leash to guide her back and remind her of the correct command. She did get up a few times from her Down but followed through when reminded!

Today Kai and I started the morning with our structured walk around the neighborhood and focused on offleash Heel, Come, Sit, and Down. She was very well behaved and listened to her commands with little mistakes! Later we went to an outdoor mall and worked on her duration down and sit. She was a bit unsure of the crowds of people walking past her but did remain in each command! Later we worked on Door manners and working on her impulse control. She was doing great and waited very patiently until I allowed her through.

Today Kai and I started the morning with our routine walk around the neighborhood and focused on all of her come commands! She did fairly well with most of her commands but struggled with her command. She realized that she can walk away from me when the leash is not attached. I will be taking her to a tennis court tomorrow and really enforcing her come command. Later we stopped at an outdoor mall and worked on all of her commands. Again she tried to walk away from me when we did her come to sit. I am going to be focusing on her Come command to make sure she understands that she can not walk away from me when she feels like it.
