Joey | Havanese | Brea, CA | In-Training

Joey, an eleven month old Havanese, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our one week board and train program. Joey is a sweet boy who is anxious around other dogs and new people. He lacks following commands when distracted, pulls on the leash when walking, barks, and jumps to greet. Over the next week Joey will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Joey has settled in well at my home. He is a little shy around his new doggie friends, but I know he will eventually warm up to them.

Today Joey and I went to the park to start his first day of training. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Place, and Heel. The Place command is where Joey must sit or lay on a defined object as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Heel is still a work in progress, but Joey is walking much better now. He’s walking at my side, staying focused on me. Joey was a bit nervous at first but we worked through his anxiousness. He was a little more open to being around more people this time around. He’s starting to open up a little more around my dogs. He’s still not interested in playing but he’s becoming more social around them. Joey did a great job for his first day of training!

In the morning I took Joey to The Citadel Outlets to see how he would respond to distractions. It was too overwhelming for him. He was nervous and wasn’t able to focus on his commands. He did very well with heeling around the shopping center, but couldn’t sit still. I’m the evening we practiced commands around the neighborhood. He did a lot better with less distractions around. Joey learned two new commands: Down and Come to Heel. We also worked on his duration, staying in commands longer.

Today Joey and I went to Home Depot to work on his obedience commands around distractions. Joey did very well! He didn’t bark or react to people walking by us. He stayed focused and followed all his commands.

Today I took Joey to The Grove to work on his commands around distractions. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs. He did very well around all the dogs and people. He was nervous while we were there, but he stayed focused and was well behaved.

Today Joey and I stayed home for training. We practiced food manners, door manners, and loading up. Joey spent his last day playing and socializing with his friends. He got a bath before he returns home. Joey can’t wait to go home and show you all he has learned!
