Jetson | Shepherd Mix | Whittier, CA | In-Training

Jetson, a three year old Shepherd Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our three week board and train program. Jetson is a sweet boy, but is unsure of new people when first meeting. He knows commands but doesn’t follow if distracted, leash pulls on walks, and excessively barks. Over the next three weeks Jetson will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress

Jetson has settled in well at my home. He was unsure of my pack when he first got here. He would growl if they came near him. I let him settle down in his pen for a little while then brought him back out with group. Towards the end of the night he became more social with them and was interested in playing.

Today Jetson and I went to the park to start his first day of training. I introduced and conditioned Jetson to the ecollar. We practiced commands Place, Sit, and Heel. Place is a command where Jetson must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Heel is still a work in progress, but he is walking much better now.

Today Jetson and I worked on his obedience around the neighborhood. We practiced a few new commands today: Down, Come to Sit, and Come to Heel. We also worked on his duration, holding the commands longer. He is a very smart boy and is catching on quickly to his commands.

Today Jetson and I went to the park to work on his commands. We worked a lot on Come to Sit and Come to Heel, since those are a bit trickier. He doing very well with his commands. We need some more work on his focus. Jetson gets distracted at times and will break command.

Today Jetson and I worked on his obedience commands at home. We practiced Come to sit, Come to Heel, Place, and Down. We are working more on his duration, holding his commands longer. Jetson loves hanging out with his buddies. He can be a bit bossy when he wants the dogs to play with him.

Today Jetson and I went to Huntington Beach to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a bit excitable and distracted when we first got there, but as we walked around and worked on his commands Jetson calmed down and was able to focus. He was reactive to other dogs he saw, growling at them as they passed by. Once I corrected him, he would stop.

Today Jetson and I worked on his obedience at home. We worked on all his commands and duration. We have a new comer that joined the pack today, an eight month old labradoodle. Jetson was a bit standoff-ish with him and would growl if the puppy came near. I know he will end up warming up to the pup. Jetson got to play with his best friend, Cosmo the Bernese Mountain Dog, before he goes back home to his owners tomorrow.

He does fine if the dog isn’t paying attention to him, but if the dog is being reactive Jetson wants to react back.

Today Jetson and I worked on his training indoors to stay out of the stormy weather. Jetson and his buddies worked on their place commands while watching me wrap gifts. They didn’t let the rain stop them from having a good time. I think that was the best part of their day and my worst part of the day, having to blow dry the three of them when they were done.
