Meet Jedi! She is a one-year old Bernadoodle from Los Angeles, California. Jedi is here for our two week Urban Board and Train Program. This sweet girl is a joy to be around; however, Jedi has developed some dangerous habits, such as running out the front door of her home, which we will correct over the next two weeks. Jedi will also be learning how to properly walk on the leash, how to recall, when and where it’s ok to play, and understand the times that require her to relax. We cannot wait to get started with this happy girl! Stay tuned for Jedi’s two week transformation!

Hello and welcome to the beginning of Jedi’s journey! Jedi is such a sweet girl, eager to please, and naturally focuses on her handler. In the video, we are practicing our Heel position as well as spontaneous Sits. Watch how easily Jedi follows along with direction! This girl is going to be fun to work with. Stay tuned as we shape Jedi into the best pup she can be!

Repetition and consistency lead to building the behaviors that we want our pups to exhibit. During every training session, Jedi is asked to demonstrate (or practice) each command and boundary that we will instill during her board and train. She’s a smart girl so the journey should move quickly. You’ll be amazed how fast she will pick things up. Visit us again tomorrow for another update of Jedi’s transformation!

Check out how well Jedi works when exposed to distractions! Bass Pro Shop can be overwhelming even to humans; much less our furry friends. We are working through all of Jedi’s obedience, while building a foundation of training consisting of the “Three D’s” Distance, Distraction, and Duration. Jedi is responding very well to direction and handling. Even though she is with us for a short time, we expect great things of of Jedi! Stay tuned!

Working in high distraction environments is critical to prosper socialization of a pup. We show them different examples of new places so that they become comfortable in such a setting. We want them to learn that unfamiliar does not equate to danger. Jedi is doing very well as we increase distraction. Here, you can see Jedi practicing extended sits and downs. Even when her handler is out of sight, she holds the position. Tomorrow, we will be showcasing another of Jedi’s adventures!

As Jedi progresses in her training, we can see from the outside looking in that her focus and attentions have already improved dramatically. Moving objects are typically big distractions, especially for a young dog. Practicing our heeling in and out of the swings gives Jedi some constant movement surrounding her and allows her to work through them in her own way. We help to adjust here and there, but the work is being done by the pup! Another grand adventure!

We are coming into Jedi’s second week of training and this little girl is right on schedule! Today we worked around a lot of dogs and people. Increasing distractions so that she understands how to hold a position regardless of what’s happening around her is how we build true obedience in a pup. I’m happy to report that Jedi is at the top of her class. Keep following Jedi’s blog to see us polish her behavior as we ready to send her back home!

Today was the first time Jedi went to Lowe’s while staying with us and look at how wonderful she did! You can see that her understanding of the commands is very well instilled. Her engagement is fantastic! We have one more week remaining in Jedi’s training journey so we will be tightening up all of her behaviors while building in more duration, distance, and distractions!

Today we pushed Jedi’s abilities. The idea was to test her obedience in a very distracting environment. This little girl did NOT disappoint! Not only did Jedi follow instructions well, she did so with dozens of people and dogs moving around us. This is what true obedience looks like. We couldn’t be happier with Jedi’s progress over such a short time! Tomorrow, we will feature another adventure!

Jedi has already come so far in her training! Watch as she holds a place/sit command while people, vehicles, and dogs are everywhere. Towards the end of the video, you can see a lady literally trying to call Jedi away from her position, but to her surprise, Jedi wouldn’t budge! Watching this progression is what makes us love the dog training job! This girl will continue to impress until she goes home! Stay tuned to share in that journey!

A picture is worth a thousand words! We could tell you all about how Jedi is doing such a good job while she’s with us; however, that description would not suffice. This video shows a snippet of the skill Jedi has learned so far. Even trained dogs have some trouble with maintaining a sit position in such a stimulating environment. This is certainly a testament to Jedi’s abilities and her upbringing. We are so honored to be a part of Jedi’s journey. Visit again tomorrow for more of Jedi’s work!

Let’s be honest guys… Before sending Jedi to work with us, would you have thought this level of obedience was attainable? We trainers can’t take all the credit though, the pup is very smart, playful, and willing to learn. We still have a few days to practice her commands and manners before taking her back to her owners. Keep watching Jed’s blog to see the last few days of her training adventure!

We have reached a point in Jedi’s training journey where we literally look for the busiest and loudest places to work because, to train anyplace else wouldn’t t be challenging enough. This girl is destined for great things! Tomorrow is Jedi’s last day with us. Before she goes, we are going to continue our practice up to the last minute.

As Jedi prepares to go back home tomorrow, our focus today has shifted to a relaxed and slow training session. All the hard work is done, and Jedi is better than ever! We can’t wait to return her to her parents and show them just how far she has come. Explaining how proud we are of this little girl would be impossible to express in words; so, we will simply state that it has been a privilege and pleasure to bring Jedi this far. We hope to see continue to grow with her family!
