Hoover I American Pit Bull Terrier Mix | Hawthorne, CA I In-Training

Meet Hoover from Hawthorn, CA! He is a 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who is full of so much love and playful energy. He is very kind, affectionate, and smart. But there are some behaviors he needs to work on like jumping on people, inconsistent obedience, and strong pulling on leash. He joins us for our 1 week Board and Train program to address these and some other unwanted behaviors. Stay tuned for his 1 week transformation! ________________________________________ Pupdate 5/1/22

Today one of our sessions took place at a park. We began working on the Come to Sit, Down, Place, Heel on leash, and Off commands. We also worked on Food refusal and Door manners. Hoover was a little reserved at first, but is really starting to warm up to me and come out of his shell. I can see our bond and trust growing quickly with every training session. He did really well today. He did fight me a bit in the beginning not wanting to train, but once we started he was engaged and playful. I’m excited to see his progress with every session!

Today one of our sessions took place at a Home Depot. We continued working on and building a strong foundation in the Come to Sit, Down, Place, Heel on leash, and Off commands. Hoover really has some power when pulling which can be challenging to control. But I was very happy to see him catching onto the “game” of Heel. He was very excited and did a great job with his obedience. Countless amounts of people approached us praising on how handsome and well-behaved of a pup he was. He did break command a few times, but showed great improvement with patience and clear communication on my end. We also worked on Food refusal and Door manners. A successful day of training and I look forward to seeing his continued growth!

Hoover has shown great improvement, especially in his Heeling! It was a challenge trying to walk him with his powerful pulling at first, but now is doing well with very minimal pulling. He is still breaking commands sometimes, but every session that decreases. We also worked on Food refusal and Door manners where he also showed great improvement. Another great day of training!

Today for one of our sessions, we went back to Home Depot. We continued working on the Come to Sit, Down, Place, Heel on leash, and Off commands. Hoover had his big breakthrough today! During our sessions today, he really improved while executing his Heeling, Extended Sit, and Down commands. Home Depot was pretty busy which brought on many distractions. Hoover was definitely curious but made the conscious decision to stay in command. I’m very proud of him and excited to see his continued growth during our remaining time together! Another great day of training!

Today one of our sessions took place at Home Depot once again. We continued working on the Come to Sit, Down, Place, Heel on leash, and Off commands. To challenge Hoover, I added longer hold times as well as created distance between us with a 15-foot leash. The longer hold times as well as the increased distance did cause him to break command a few times, but he quickly adapted and you could clearly see his confidence building. Very proud of his fun and playful spirits today during training and very happy with his progress.

Today one of our sessions took place at my residence. We continued working on the Come to Sit, Down, Place, Heel on leash, and Off commands. This session we primarily worked on Door Manners. Hoover did a great job with impulse control and staying in command even when runners and cats passed by. I could tell he wanted to go play but made a conscious decision to stay in command. Really proud of him and his training progress today!

Today one of our sessions took place at my residence once again. In this session, we primarily worked on Food refusal. Hoover’s impulse control was great today and he stayed in command. He was a little resistant when asking him to Place on the elevated dog bed, but that is something we’ll continue working on. Another great day of training!
