Meet Honey! š¾
Honey is a sweet 3-year-old Pittie mix from Inglewood, California, who will be joining us for boarding! During her six-day vacation, Honey will be coming along on plenty of fun adventures, getting to explore new places, experience different distractions, and of course, soak up lots of love and attention along the way. ā¤ļø
While sheās with us, weāll also be brushing up on some of her obedience skillsāespecially her leash manners, because like many Pitties, this girl can be quite the little powerhouse when she decides she wants to go somewhere! šŖš¶ Weāll be working on keeping those walks nice and polite while making sure she still gets plenty of opportunities to be a dog and enjoy her vacation.
Most importantly, weāre going to do our very best to make Honeyās stay as fun, exciting, and full of adventures as possible! We couldnāt be more excited to have this sweet girl staying with us. Stay tuned to see what adventures Honey and I get into during her six-day vacation! š¾āØ

Today we kicked things off with a walk at Griffith Park so Honey and I could get to know each other a little better! She was quite the excited girl being out and about, so we spent some time simply walking and taking in the sights while also brushing up on her heel command. With a few reminders, Honey was able to settle into a nice walk right by my side, which was great to see!
After she relaxed a bit, we ran through some of her obedience to see where she was at with her commands. Her extended sit and down are looking pretty good! At one point, she did get a little excited by some people working out nearby and tried to pop up, but with a quick āah!ā she planted that bottom right back down. What a smart girl! For her come-to-sit, she needed a little help remembering exactly where she was supposed to go, but after a few repetitions, she caught on and got it!
Once we wrapped up our walk, we headed back to the car to load up and make our way to her home away from home for the next few days. Honey eagerly hopped right into her travel crate with no hesitation and handled the car ride like a champ.
Once we arrived, I gave her some time to explore everything to her heartās content. She was especially excited to meet my two kitties and my dog, and she didnāt seem to have too many complaints about her new setup. š
All in all, Iād say our first evening together is off to a great start! I can already tell Honey is going to be a fun little lady to hang out with, and Iām excited to see what the rest of her stay has in store! š¾š

Today Honey and I headed over to Westwood Park for a little adventure while continuing to brush up on her commands around distractions. When we first arrived, Honey was quite excited and immediately wanted to take the lead! So, before we could head into the park, we took a little time to remind her of the expectations of her heel command. Anytime she wanted to pull ahead, I simply applied a correction and changed the direction we were walking. After a few repetitions, Honey began to understand that if she wanted to make her way into the park, she needed to do so politely by staying with me in her heel. Once she caught on, we were able to head in and start exploring!
There was definitely plenty for Honey to take in, so we spent some time simply walking around and allowing her to settle into the environment. After she had a chance to take everything in, we got to work on her commands. For her extended commands, Honey was fairly patient, although there were a few moments where she decided she would rather get up and continue our walk or go investigate what the kids on the playground were up to. They certainly looked like they were having way more fun! š After a few resets, though, she was reminded that patience is key and did a nice job settling back into her positions.
We also practiced her place command on a few different benches, which she handled pretty well! She only needed one reminder to patiently wait for her release cue before getting up. For her come-to-sit,
Honey needed a bit more of a refresher today. We ran into a couple of little hiccups where she would either stop behind me to investigate what was going on or try to turn toward whatever was happening behind us once she completed the follow-through. So we spent some extra time working through this, and by the end of our outing, she was able to follow all the way around and finish by sitting facing forward several times. It was great to see her start putting the pieces together!
I also got a pretty good look at just how strong Honeyās prey drive can be when squirrels are involved! Anytime she tried to lunge toward one, I applied a correction and paired it with her āoffā command. It didnāt take long before she started understanding what I was asking, and we were eventually able to pass a whole group of squirrels without her trying to launch herself after them! That was definitely exciting to see and a great little win for today.
After getting our command work in, I let Honey have some time to simply be a dog and sniff around in a nice grassy area. She seemed to enjoy that part quite a bit! Once she had gotten her fill and was starting to get a little worn out, we headed back to the house where Honey happily settled in for a nap. The rest of our day was spent hanging around the house and enjoying each otherās company, and Honey certainly had no complaints about that!
All in all, today was a fun outing filled with plenty of new sights, distractions, and opportunities for Honey to practice being a polite little lady out and about. She handled everything we encountered really well and showed some great improvement as the day went on. It was also nice getting to spend some quality time together and continue getting to know each other. Nice work today, Honey Bun! š¶š
