This is Hatch, a 9 month old Labrador Retriever Mix from Santa Monica, CA. He is here for our two week Board and Train Program. Hatch is a super sweet and cuddly pup but has so much puppy excitement, he jumps on people! Hatch also has a tendency to pull on the leash when his parents try to take him on a walk. Over the next two weeks, Hatch will learn basic obedience and manners to be the best Hatch he can be so stay tuned for his PAWsome transformation

Today Hatch was mainly getting used to everything. There were a lot of new smells and he was very excited to explore everything! We worked on Come to Sit and overall he responded well to it today at the local park. He is still getting used to the feeling of the e collar so sometimes he shakes his head. He ate his food with his medication and had some water. He peed but no poop yet. Great first day!

Hatch had a good day today! He seems to be feeling better so I gave him his regular food and he ate it all. Later, he had a solid poop. I will continue medications if needed at this point. We went to the local park to practice all his commands and see what we need to work on the most. Overall, he seems to be doing well and understanding what is being asked. His Heel is improving a little bit and he now looks up at me as we walk which is great! He was a little hesitant going on different Place objects in the beginning, but once he got the hang of it he was a pro! Great job Hatch!

Hatch had a good day today as we went to the local park to mainly practice our Place command. At first, Hatch was a little uncertain going on my place cot but after a few tries he was doing well. We are working on our Duration Down as he tends to go off the place cot sometimes. I used OFF today when he tried to jump on me and it seemed to work. Did not eat too much today but I am not worried.

Hatch had a very exciting day today! It was the first time he went to the outdoor mall to practice everything we have been learning. Overall, he was doing really well and I am very proud of her progress so far. He struggled a little bit with going into a Down command. His Heel is improving but he has to work on staying in a Heel while people walk by. I am very happy with his progress on his duration commands. Great job!

I took Hatch to a new park to get him used to training with more distractions and overall he did very well. We mainly worked on Heel today. In the video, Hatch sometimes puts his head down to sniff as we walk. To prevent this, it is important to note that I continue walking, use the e collar remote, and say "Heel". Today was the first day he barked at my neighbor walking by so we are going to work on that. Eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally. Poop is a little soft.

I took Hatch to a playground to help increase his confidence going onto different Place objects. The bench in one of the pictures seemed to give him more trouble than the others. I had Hatch go down the small slide to help build his confidence more and he did not seem to mind it! He is doing better at going into a Down command. Hatch still looks up at me when we go for walks to practice Heeling so that is great! We are working on Hatch staying in his command for an extended period of time. I also have been teaching Hatch to not bolt out of the front door and he has been doing well at that but sometimes he has his moments. He is eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

Hatch had a great day today at the Century City Mall! It was the first time he was out with so many distractions. We had a couple moments where he made some mistakes but overall I am really proud of how well he did today! Hatch still gets a little distracted and not paying attention to the task at hand but I see a big improvement from how distracted he was a week ago. After the mall, he had some diarrhea so I used the can of food and started him back on the medication given. Other than his stool, he is doing well.

Hatch staying in a Duration Down command while another dog walks by!

I took Hatch to the Topanga mall to practice all his commands with new distractions around him. Overall, he did well today! His Heel is not as tight as I would like it to be but there is improvement. You can see in the video that he wanders off but understands he needs to come back to Heel. I was impressed how well he was doing with the leash dragging behind him. He did get spooked by a kid running fast behind him. He does great on different Place objects. Hatch loved watching the fish swim by! His stool was much better today but I am continuing to give the bland food and medications twice daily. Eating/drinking/peeing normally

Hatch worked on Food Manners, Door Manners, and Crate Manners today. Overall, he did okay. He was not the best at listening today. Sometimes pups think they do not need to listen as much since they are in a home environment so this is why I wanted to practice this today. The main struggle today was he would sometimes not listen when I told him to come. He seems to respond better by keeping a calm and monotone voice while he is having a hard time listening. Keeping things fun and upbeat makes him want to work and therefore listens better. Eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

Happy Thanksgiving! Today I focused on his Down Command and although he tends to do well at the command, it is always good to practice. He did very well even when there were very distracting objects. Later, I let him drag the leash around in the park to get his zoomies out and once he got the hang of it, I took off the leash to let him run around and he really enjoyed it. It is very important for him to have a balance between work and play to make his training successful. Having fun breaks in between training sessions seem to work very well for him. He did not eat much this morning but I am not concerned. He is eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

Hatch had a big day today at the Santa Monica Pier. It was a very busy day with a lot of new sights and smells and Hatch got spooked a couple times throughout our training there. We worked through most of the issues but overall he did okay. I think it was very overwhelming for him. We worked on Heel, Come to Sit, Down, and Place. There were many dogs that passed by and he remained focused so that is great! Eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

Hatch had a better day today. I took him to Home Depot to work on his confidence so he does not get spooked easily. In the video around 1:25, he gets spooked by something and his common response is to abandon the command. We are working on this, however, this behavior is difficult to work through in a short period of time. He understands and excels at each command but when something spooks him, his fear prevents him from responding correctly. I had a couple workers come up to him and greet him and he did well overall. He did not jump on them or get too excited so that was great to see.

Hatch did great today at the outdoor mall! I was very proud of him with all his commands. We worked on off leash Come to Sit, Heel, Duration Down, and Place. There were a couple times he got off of the Place object I put him on but quickly got back on soon after. I was especially very proud of his Heeling because he was very engaged, focused, and did not spook. He did get startled by a kid running by while he was in a Down command but he remained in his command. Great work!
