Goldendoodle Dog Training | Louie | Los Angeles, CA

Louie, a Goldendoodle from Los Angeles, CA went through the Balanced Canine Training SoCal Board and Train dog training program . Louie was trained by Amanda Lascari in La Habra Heights, CA.

Louie came to Balanced Canine Training SoCal with varying behavioral issues, including pulling on the leash, squirrel chasing, jumping up when greeting, counter surfing, generally not listening to commands, and barking at strangers. Balanced Canine Training SoCal was successful in transforming Louie into a well-managed pup.

Louie, a four year old Goldendoodle, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. Louie comes to us knowing commands but not always following them, not walking properly on leash, and being easily distracted out in public. Louieā€™s owner's main concern is him picking up and eating things heā€™s not supposed to and biting if someone tries to take things out of his mouth. Over the two weeks Louie will be working towards his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Louie is settling in well at my home. I introduced him to my pack. He did very well greeting everyone. He wasnā€™t interested in playing, but comfortable socializing with everyone. I let him take the rest of the day to get adjusted to his new surroundings. Tomorrow we will begin his training. Above is a tutorial video of the Ecollar. I didnā€™t get to send you home with one, but please watch this video as many times as you need to become familiar with the training collar. Also above is Louieā€™s personal Ecollar. He will be going home with that exact collar.

Today Louie and I went to the park to work on his commands. I introduced and conditioned him to the Ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down , and Place. I believe he knows the down command, but was being a bit stubborn with it. If I had a treat in my hand he would Down perfectly, but without the treat he was more reluctant to do it. We will continue to work on this. Place is a command where Louie must sit or lay in a defined object. This command is great for building confidence, improving distance and duration, and teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Louie did very well and caught on quickly to the new command. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, which Louie did great around. He was able to ignore the dogs and stay focused on his commands. He had a great first day of training!

Today Louie and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced more of his Sit and Place commands. We started working on Heel today. It is still a work in progress, but he is walking much better now. Heā€™s staying closer to my side and focusing on where I am walking.

Today Louie and I went to Loweā€™s to train out of the heat and work around distractions. He was a bit distracted when we first arrived, but as we walked around and trained he was able to settle down and focus on his commands. He did very well staying focused as we worked around people distractions. He received a few compliments from customers and employees on how well mannered he is. One employee came up to pet him. Louie tried his best to sit nicely and calmly, but was too excited and got to say hello. We will continue to work on his greeting manners.

Today Louie joined me on a little shopping spree at the mall. Louie got to pathos commands around a lot of people distractions. He was very anxious, which made it hard for him to focus and follow through with his commands. We walked around for a while to settle him down. Once he settled down, Louie was able to focus and follow his commands. I noticed this morning that he has shaking his head more than usual. It seems that one of his ears is bothering him. I inspected them and they didnā€™t look red or inflamed, but I cleaned his ears with ear wash and cream to help soothe them. I will keep an eye on him and see how he is feeling tomorrow. If it persists then I will make an appointment to visit the vet.

Today Louie and I trained at home. We practiced all his commands and worked on his distance and duration. Ā I used his friends as a distraction and let them play around us while we trained. He was a good boy and stayed focused on his commands. His ears seem to be doing a little better. Louie is still shaking his head but not as much as yesterday. It looks like ear wash and cream are helping. Iā€™m going to continue to clean his ears and keep an eye on it.Ā

Today Louie and I went to the park to work on his obedience. He did really well. We were able to practice semi-off leash. I let him drag the leash around while we trained. We need to tighten up a few of his commands and then he will be ready to start working Ā completely off leash. Today was his first time showing interest in the other dogs, wanting to play. He ran around and chased the other dogs. Good improvement with socialization.

Today Louie and I went to the shopping outlet to work on his obedience around distractions. It was very busy, which made him a little overwhelmed and distracted. We werenā€™t able to do any semi-Offleash work. As we walked around and trained, Louie slowly relaxed and was able to focus.Ā

Today, Louie and I trained at home. He practiced all his commands and worked on his duration. We also worked on a new command today, Out. This command is to teach Louie to drop food or objects that he has in his mouth. This is a safe way than trying to grab something out of his mouth or take it away from him.Ā

Today, Louie and I went to the park to work on his commands. We met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs, so he could practice around other dog distractions. He was a little distracted by the other dogs at first. He wanted to approach and say hi. As we continued to train, Louie was able to ignore them and stay focused on his commands. We practiced all his commands semi-off leash. We need to clean up a few of his commands and we will be ready to unclip the leash.

Today Louie and I stayed home to train. We practiced all his commands and worked on his distance and duration. We also worked on his food and door manners.Ā

The benefits of food manners is:

-Impulse control-Waiting for food helps your dog learn patience

-Reducing Anxiety and possessiveness- Good food manners can help reduce your dog's excitement, anxiety, or possessiveness around food.

-Not eating things sheā€™s not supposed to- good food manners will teach her not to grab and eat things off the floor. Just because there is food on the floor does not mean it belongs to her.

The benefits of door manners is:

-Impulse control at thresholds- Typically the door causes excitement for a dog because they know they are going out (outside, for a ride, for a walk, etc.)Ā Waiting at a doorway puts your dog in a calmer state of mind and you are able to have more control of the dog when you take him out.

-Safety- Teaching your dog to wait at thresholds will prevent bolting.Ā

Today, Louie and I stayed home to train. We practiced all his commands and worked on his duration. We worked more on his Out command. He is doing really well with it! I donā€™t even have to use the Ecollar to stop or correct him. He will ignore or drop the food the first time I say Out.
