George | Labrador/Pit Bull Mix | Los Angeles, CA | In-Training

George, a 4 year old Labrador/Pit Bull Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. George comes to us knowing some commands but not always following them if distracted, not walking properly on leash, rushing out the front door or gate when open, and being territorial/protective over her family. She has a few biting incidents. Over the two weeks George will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

George is getting settled in at my home. She got to meet a few of my dogs. She was a little shy when meeting them but is fine being around them. George is doing well with me, following me around and allowing me to give her affection.

Today George and I stayed home to train. I introduced and conditioned her to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Place, and Down. She did very well. She was focused and followed through with all her commands. We do need some more work on her duration, but not bad for her first day of training. George is still a little shy around her new friends. She isn’t really interested in playing with them yet, but okay with being around them.

Today George and I went to the park to work on her obedience. We practiced more of her Sit, Down, and Place commands. We worked on her duration, having her hold commands longer. George and I started working on a new command, /Heel. It is still a work in progress, but she walking much better at my side and focusing on where I am going. We had a few distractions while we were a the park, people and other dogs. George was interested in the other dogs and watched them at a distance. As we were practicing Heel, we passed by a few people. She looked at them for a second and proceeded on with the walk. George is doing a great job with her training!

Today George and I went to Lowe’s to work on her commands around distractions. She did pretty well. She was a little distracted with her surroundings when we first arrived, but as we walked around and trained George was able to focus and follow her commands. Today George got to meet a few of my family members. I could tell she was anxious and insecure around everyone, so I had everyone ignore her and allowed her to approach everyone when she was ready. She would walk up and sniff them then walk away. She wasn’t ready to be pet by anyone but able to be around my family. I will continue to bring her around more people, so she becomes more relaxed and comfortable around people.

Today George and I stayed home to train. We practiced all her commands and worked on her duration. She does very well with holding her down command, where I am able to distance myself and do circles around her. Sit is a little hard for her. As long as I am in front or on the side of her she will hold her sit, but if I try to circle around George will get up and try to reposition herself so she can see me. We will continue to practice and improve. After training she got to socialize with the other dogs.

Today George went to The Hollywood Walk of Fame to work on her obedience around high distractions. She was a bit anxious with all the commotion around us, but as we walked around and trained George was able to relax and focus on her commands. She did very well heeling through the crowds of people, as well as holding her commands as crowds passed by us. She can be a little stubborn at times and not want to listen, but I made sure that she followed through with all her commands.

Today George and I trained at home. We practiced all her commands and worked on her distance and duration. We were even able to work semi-off leash. I let George drag the leash as we trained. I used her friends as a distraction and let them play around us while we trained. She did very well staying focused, even with the other dogs getting in the way.

Did pretty well, she was a little stubborn in the beginningbut after some repetition she started to focus and follow her commands. She did very well heeling past people. We stopped in front of a target, where George worked on her duration sits and downs as people entered and exited the store. George was a good girl and stayed in her positions and observed as everyone walked by net. She received a few compliments on how well behaved she is.

Today George and I went to the outlets to work on her obedience around distractions. She was a little nervous at first, but as we walked around and trained she was able to relax and focus back in her commands. I had my sister assist me with training George. George responded pretty well with her. She did give her a hard time with her down command in the beginning. She had no leash dragging today and was pretty much working completely off leash!

Today George and I went to Lowe’s to work on her obedience around distractions. She did very well! George worked completely off leash. She did a great job heeling past customers through the tight isles. She stayed in her sits and downs as people and shopping carts passed by her. We had a few employees that approached and talked to George. She was a little shy, so I allowed her to go up to them and sniff first, then when she was comfortable I let the employees pet her. George didn’t try to snap or bite. She sat calmly while they gave her affection.
