Meet Frenchie! He is a 5month old Jack-A-Poo from Burbank, California here for our Three Week Puppy Board and Train program! Frenchie is a playful/friendly pup who does not like to come when called and struggles with pulling on the leash. Over the next three weeks, Frenchie will learn how to behave on leash, how to properly greet people and other dogs, and how to be the pup he can be! Stay tuned for Frenchie's Three week transformation!

Frenchie and I headed off to a local park to see what he knows. He was distracted and wanted to pull on the leash. He also struggled wanting to sit or down and just rolled over on his back asking for belly rubs. He did throw up his breakfast after I picked him up on his way back home so we got him all cleaned up. Once we got home he settled in quickly after checking out his new environment. After some fetch in the backyard he came inside, hopped onto the dog bed and settled down for a nap.

Today Frenchie and I worked on luring him into some of his positions that he will be learning throughout his Board and Train as well as teaching leash pressure. When the leash gets tight, he is learning to move with me and stay in my space. At first, he wanted to pull the opposite way but he learned that the leash pressure will stay on and as soon as he comes to me it goes away. He shows some timidness around new people, dogs, and loud noises at times so we will be working on boosting his confidence! After we spend a few days working on his foundation around little to no distractions we will start to add some in. Once Frenchie got comfortable with me tonight, I gave him a once over and checked over his whole body, ears, feet, and teeth. When looking at his ear I noticed he has a tick. I already called my local vet and we are getting him in tomorrow. I have added a picture below, it is a little blurry as he was struggling sitting still.

Frenchie and I worked on some more leash manners today as well as working on adding some duration to his sit command. We are using a lot of treats introducing new things to him, but we will begin to phase them out so we are not a pez dispenser forever! We also introduced the come command as well towards the end of the video. He was much more comfortable & confident with me today, but did throw up in the van on the drive home.

Frenchie and I worked on some more leash manners today. He did well inside the backyard and house walking by my side in a heel and did great holding his sits. Once we headed outside the Gardner was out there and he was quite a bit more distracted. He wanted to pull and smell everything at first. He did do well getting into and holding his sit command. Once we did a few repetitions he started to get into the swing of things. He has warmed up well and is having a blast!

Frenchie and I headed off to Santa Monica to see how he did around all the loud noises and distractions. He walked around with confidence like he owned the place, the only thing I saw that made him nervous was a loud truck that came through. He did want to pull when we saw other dogs at first. You will see with the walking, I normally want the leash completely loose but as it was his first week and there was a lot going on I just wanted him to stay on my left side and not pull.

Frenchie and I focused on some more leash manners today and worked on adding duration to all his commands. He is doing great walking on the leash around no distractions. He occasionally breaks his sit command out of excitement but gets back into it quickly with a reminder. We also introduced the place command today. Place is any elevated object or surface that has a defined boundary. It can eventually be a dog bed, rock, or bench etc.

Frenchie and I headed off to a local park to practice around some light distractions. He is doing well with most of his commands so we are starting to phase out his treats. He does still struggle with down the most so we focused on it this afternoon inside. He likes to just roll over on his back so we have been adding a little leash pressure to prevent him from flopping over. He at first still would flip on his back, but after some repetitions he got into the swing of things and started to understand that down means all 4 on the ground.

Frenchie and I headed off to a couple different parks today. We focused on keeping that leash loose in his “heel” command and adding duration to his sit command. He does well holding a sit if I am right next time but struggles when I start to create some distance. We are still using treats but have phased them out for the commands I know he understands. He has been doing flawless with his potty training but he did have a loose stool today.

Frenchie and I headed off to a local park to practice his commands. Our video sadly got ruined by the rain as droplets were all over the camera. Frenchie paid no mind to the rain and had a ton of fun today! We worked on place with different objects, his down command, and heel. He did well with place but struggled holding. For Down, we are now just using some light leash pressure and occasionally rewarding with a treat. He did whimper and whine when we passed a few other dogs but after doing a couple u turns and walking back and forth he paid little to no mind to them!

Frenchie and I headed off to Glendale to work around some trainers and other dogs. At first he whined and wanted to break his heel command to go and say hello to the other dogs. After some repetitions and reminders he get into the swing of things. We have also been working on placing him on higher objects and adding the down command to place. He is still progressing with his potty training and have had 0 accidents inside the home.

Frenchie and I practiced some training in home this morning and worked on his down and place command. We then headed off to a local park to practice all his commands. Inside he does well with his downs and does it just on command. When we are outside he still requires a little leash pressure to get into that position. We are now focusing on adding duration to all of his commands. He is still a young pup and gets excited so he needs a couple reminders at times but gets back into the command quickly.

Frenchie and I headed off to a local park and Home Depot today. At the park we focused on his down command with no leash pressure as well as adding duration to his sit and place commands. We also practiced place on multiple new objects today! At Home Depot he did well except for when we first saw shopping carts. He barked and barked and barked and it took about 3 minutes to reel him back in. Once he warmed up he did well inside but wanted to break his commands whenever someone made eye contact with him.

Frenchie and I practiced some training in home and then headed off to a local park to proof all the commands we worked on inside. We focused on downing on different objects and surfaces, as well as him holding his sit for longer periods and distances. He struggled downing at times on place, but with some more repetitions he understood. He does still get excited at times and needs to be reminded to hold his commands until I release him.

Frenchie and I headed off to a couple local parks today. With the sun being out it was busier and he was a bit more curious with all the activity going on. He needed a few reminders to hold his commands but did well. The bicycles, skateboards and scooters he wanted to chase at first but after getting warmed up paid no mind. We focused on introducing new place objects and getting him too down on place. He needed a little leash pressure to help get him into the down position on place but held well.

Frenchie and I headed off to a couple local parks today and then worked on his food manners at home. The past few times we have practiced this he struggled staying on his place board and wanted to run up to his food. This time he did much better but seemed confused when I released him so we will continue working on this. At the park we focused on him staying in his heel command around distractions and practicing place on as many new objects we could find. When there are kids running around, objects moving by quickly he tends to forget what was asked and breaks away from my side. He eventually got into the swing of things but it did take a few reminders to stay in that heel position.

Frenchie and I headed off to a couple local parks to practice all his commands and then headed off to Lowes to work around some distractions! While at Lowes he did much better today but struggled remaining in a heel with me pushing the shopping cart. He did fantastic holding his sits from a distance, but when I asked him to down and start to walk away he likes to pop back up into a sit. We also worked on finding as many new place objects as we can.

Frenchie and I headed off to meet with a couple other trainers and work around some other dogs. He whined in the beginning wanting to go and say hello to the other dogs and struggled holding his sit command. After some repetitions he paid little to no mind to the other dogs around him. We then headed home to work on Frenchie holding his place command for longer periods and practiced his door manners!

Pupdate 01/05/23

Frenchie and I practiced his crate manners this morning. With the crate I want him going in with no leash pressure and not bolting out when I walk by or close/open the door. This was a big struggle for him when we first started and now he enjoys getting in there. We then headed off to Lowes to focus on him holding his down command for extended periods. He did well but when shopping carts rolled by he would pop up into a sit. With some reminders and a couple treats he held his down command for 4 minutes by the end of our training session.

Frenchie and I headed off to Santa Monica to practice all of his commands. He struggled a little bit more today than usual. There were a lot of people out and about and he showed a lot of excitement and confidence which are not bad things but we still need control and attention when that excitement hits. He did need to be reminded to hold his positions more then usual due to the higher distractions. We then headed off to Harbor freight to work on some of his commands and he did fantastic there with very little reminders needed. Tomorrow we are going to look for the busiest place we can find to work on all his commands again around those heavier distractions.

Frenchie and I headed off to Lowes and Home Depot today to focus on his extended downs and sits as well as finding some new place objects to practice on. We then headed off to our local town center to work on the same commands. While it wasn’t as busy as Santa Monica there were people out and about and was a great chance for him to work in a higher distraction environment then the Home Depot and Lowes of the world, but not so crazy that he was overstimulated. He did much better today than he did yesterday with holding his commands as people passed by and he walked great!

Frenchie and I headed off to Lowes, Home Depot and then to Tractor Supply to practice all of his commands. He did well holding his down and sit command for extended periods with little to no reminders. At times he likes to pop up from his down to a sit but with a point to the ground he gets back into his position quickly. We also focused on finding some more new place objects and having him hold for extended periods while people passed by. He is doing much better holding his commands around distractions and tomorrow we are headed out to look for some new ones!

Frenchie and I started off the morning practicing all of his commands in home and then headed off to work around some distractions at Lowes and Home Depot. He did flawless holding his downs today. At times, he now likes to creep into a down when I ask him to hold a sit so with a little leash pressure I will remind him to hold that sit. We also worked on finding some new place objects as well as adding more duration to his place command. Today we got up to 5 minutes while everyone passed by!

Frenchie and I headed off to a couple local parks and then back to Home Depot for our last day of training. He did great today and did not break his down command one time! He paid little to no mind to all the shoppers passing by and did fantastic staying in his heel command. We also worked on sending to place from a further distance as well as getting onto some higher objects as he enjoys jumping up onto new objects we can find! He is looking forward to showing off his new skills tomorrow!
