Foxy | Border Collie | Palmdale, CA | In Training

Meet Foxy! She's a four month old Border Collie from Palmdale, California here for our Three-Week Puppy Board and Train program! Foxy is very sweet and well behaved but she does like to chew on things, play bite, and she has trouble following basic commands. She also needs some potty training! Over the next three weeks we'll be working on Foxy's obedience, and make her the best pup she can possibly be! Stay tuned for Foxy's twenty one day transformation!

After I picked up Foxy, we went to Hacienda Park! She barked at me a bit when she first saw me, but after I started petting her, she immediately took to me! We played in the park for a bit and I got to know her. After that, we went home where I let her sniff around my home for a little while and get used to being here! So far, she's been very sweet and loving!

Foxy went to El Dorado Park today for her first full day of training! We worked on her Heel, Sit, and Come To Sit commands. She did a really good job with heeling, and she's doing well with holding her sit! For the Come To Sit command, I want Foxy to come to my right side, move around my legs and sit on my left side with her ears in line with my legs. In the above video, you'll see us working on these commands. Foxy gets distracted by the other dogs around her, particularly a new one walking by. She definitely wants to play! Throughout the day, when there weren't as many distractions around she ended up doing a really good job with each command!

Foxy went to Almansor Park today for training! We continued working on the commands she's learned so far, and she did a good job with each. She barked at a jogger, but she stopped quickly when asked. Her potty training also seems to be going well, as she hasn't had an accident yet, and she goes potty right when I take her outside!

Foxy went to Pathfinder Park today for training! She is picking up her commands fairly quickly! We started working on the Place command today. For Place, I want Foxy to hop up onto a raised object, such as a bench, and hold her position there. At first, she didn't want to make the jump, but pretty soon she got her front paws up! I helped her up a few times, and before I knew it, she was hopping up all on her own! I think I saw a great increase in her confidence! So much so, that when we went back to the car, she tried to jump all the way up into her kennel! That jump is still a bit high for her, but she's trying!

Foxy went to Citadel Outlets today for training! It was her first day in such a populated area. She did a really good job, even though she was often distracted by people! She still managed to Heel with me and perform her commands! We worked on the Down command today. She wasn't a huge fan at first, but she picked it up fairly quickly! It was very hot today so we didn't stay very long. After the outlets we went home and continued training there.

Foxy went to Huntington Beach today for training! She got a little distracted by all the people, dogs and bikes, but she seemed to adjust incredibly well and remained cool, calm and collected for the majority of the day. I didn't expect her to perform all of her commands with such an increase of distractions, but she was able to perform each command, and followed through with them about eighty percent of the time!

Foxy went to Almansor Park today for training! She's getting really good with each of her commands, although she got very distracted by a flock of pigeons she wanted to play with! Other than the birds, there was a barbecue going on, but Foxy did a good job of ignoring those noises.

Foxy went to Montebello Mall today for training today! She was very well behaved and got a number of compliments! She was a bit distracted by all the people, at times, but she didn't bark at a single person! She was also able to perform each of her commands reliably. As playful of a pup as she is, I've been very impressed with her ability to hold her Down position as long as she does!

Foxy went to Wilderness Park today for training! She got a little distracted by ducks, but only for the first couple minutes of seeing them. After that she did a great job and was very attentive! There were a few benches that she struggled to hop on, but I think they were a bit higher than what she's used to. She pretty quickly readjusted and was able to perform her Place command very well!

Foxy went to Almansor Park today for training! She did great with all of her commands. She did bark at one jogger who ran close to us, but she quickly got over that. There was also inexplicably a chicken wandering the park, which I've never seen before, and Foxy was just as interested in the chicken as I was!

Unfortunately, Foxy had some diarrhea today, so I'm going to be replacing her normal wet food with some pumpkin for a few meals until her stomach settles! It doesn't seem to be bothering her, though. She seems as happy as ever!

Foxy went to La Bonita Park today! She did well with each of her commands! She did bark at a passing worker, but she was able to hold her Sit and Down positions for a full two minutes! Usually with young pups, our goal is one and a half minutes, but Foxy has been doing well enough to where I believe she can hit a two minute goal! It might be more difficult for her in an area with more distractions, but I think she can do it!

Foxy went to Almansor Park for training today! She did pretty well, and for today's video, I'm showing us playing around a little bit. I release her with the break command and initiate play, then whenever she does something I don't like, such as jumping or play biting, I tell her, "off" and we stop playing. After she's sitting and calm, we can start playing again!

Foxy went to Fashion Island today for training! She was very excited to be there at first, but she quickly settled in and was able to perform each of her commands reliably! Her stool has been consistently normal for a while now, so tomorrow I'll be switching her back from the pumpkin to her normal wet food!

Foxy went to Almansor Park today for training! She did well with everything, as usual, so today I wanted to show something I've been working on with Foxy. I'd like to get her to the point where she can hop up onto my car! Even though my car is a bit high, I know for a fact she can do it, because she has done it exactly once while she's been with me. For now, however, I'll still give her a little boost, in this case my knee, to help her along!

Foxy went to Reseda Park today for training! She did a really good job all day. She barked at a goose, but she was great with all of her commands! She knows each command very well, I'm now trying to make sure she responds to the commands the first time I ask, as often as possible!

Foxy went to Wilderness Park today for training! Today, I had some of our other trainers work with her to try to cement each command in her mind. She's already proved she knows all her commands, the more difficult part is now having her perform as well with different handlers as she does with me. In the video, she does each command fairly well, although from time to time she wants to play and jump!

Foxy went to Almansor Park today! She's getting much better about correcting herself when she starts to stare at birds, but she still needs a reminder every now and then. When she hyper focuses on a distraction, for her the big one is birds, we use the Off command. Usually this will draw her attention away from the distraction and back to me!

Foxy went to Pathfinder Park today for training! She did great with her commands, as usual! For today's video, I had Foxy Heel past a well mannered dog and then Place on an object nearby. I wanted to see if she could Heel and then hold her position without becoming too distracted by the other pup. She did really well with this, and didn't seem to pay attention to the other dog at all!

Foxy went to Citadel Outlets today! She went almost the whole day without any mistakes! She barked at a new dog who approached very quickly, but no other issues all day. She was also greeted by several new people and she did a great job of not jumping or putting her paws up! She's also getting much better at hopping all the way up into my car! It still takes her a few attempts, but I think she's figuring out that she can do it, and is gaining confidence!

Foxy went to my local park for training today! She did a great job all day! For her pupdate today, I want to show some more of the manners we've been working on. Her food manners and her door manners! For food manners, I want Foxy to be able to hold a sit when I place food in front of her, and only move to eat it when I release her! For door manners, I want Foxy to wait when I open a door, without trying to rush out before me. As you can see in today's video, she's doing very well with these!

Foxy went to Huntington Beach today for her last full day of training! She's become very calm in almost all environments and today she definitely proved herself! She's able to walk nicely beside me, and perform all of her commands without any trouble. She's currently taking a nap before we head out again for our evening walks! Foxy has been such a pleasure to work with, and I'm very proud of how well she has done! I'll definitely miss working and playing with her every day!
