Fluffy, a one year old Terrier Mix, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Three Week Board and Train program. Fluffy comes to us with fear aggression, being protective over his owner, biting, nervous out in public, and being reactive towards other people and dogs. Over the three weeks fluffy and I will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Fluffy is getting acclimated to his new environment. When we got home, it took sometime for him to get out of the car. He was showing his teeth and snarling at me and the other dogs. Once I got him out of the crate, he temperament changed to being timid and undsure if his surroundings. Fluffy is still unsure of me, but more willing to follow me around. It may take a few days for Fluffy to decompress and get comfortable with his surroundings.

Today Fluffy and I started working on his obedience commands. We practiced Sit and Place. Place is a defined object that Fluffy must Sit or lay on. This is great for confidence building, as well as teaching him to be relaxed and calm. Fluffy is still not fond of me. When in his crate, he will bark and try to bite through the door. He won’t let me close enough to let me take off his leash or put a training collar on him, So we have been work with a slip leash. Fluffy caught on to the Place command very quickly, but was giving me a hard time with Sit. I am noticing he doesn’t like leash pressure. In the video you can see he becomes very reactive when I apply pressure with the leash. We will continue to keep work on his obedience and hopefully Fluffy will become more relaxed and begin to trust me more.

Fluffy is slowly starting to come around and be a little more comfortable with me. I could see he wanted to be playful but still not sure of me. He finally approached me and nudged my hands as if wanting affection, but when go to move my hands be becomes aggressive. At home we continued to work on Place. We practiced Placing into the car. He did great and climb in with no issues, unlike the first day I picked him up.
We drove to the park to work on his obedience. We met with another Offleash SoCal trainer who assisted me with training Flulffy. Fluffy was much nicer when meeting him than with me. Fluffy was didn't bark or lunge. He was actually interested in meeting the trainer and walked up to sniff him. We worked on Sit, Place, and Heel. Fluffy is very stubborn when it comes to the Sit command. He will resist and fight with the leash, but eventually complies and sits when he realizes we aren't giving in to his trantrums. As we continue to train and give Fluffly structure, his naughty behaviors should start to dissipate

Today Fluffy was a little more playful with me, jumping and running around. He nudges my hand like he wants me to pet him, but if I try he goes back to growling. I took Fluffy to the park to work on his commands. We started practicing his Heel command. Still a work in progress but is walking much better, staying close to my side and following where I am going instead of dragging me around. I tried working on the down command with him, but Fluffy wasn’t having it. He would thrash around and throw a tantrum if I gave him leash pressure to guide him into a down. But, we will continue to work at it.
