Writer: Amanda LascariAmanda Lascari

Ellie, a 1 year old German Shepherd, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our one week board and train. Ellie is a very sweet and energetic girl. She comes to us with lack of following commands when distracted, improper greeting manners (jumping), and improper leash manners. Over The next week Ellie will be working on her obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Today I introduced and conditioned Ellie to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit and Place. Place is a command where Ellie must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching her to be relaxed and calm. Her best friend, Ava, helped Ellie out and showed her how to Place.

Today I took Ellie to Griffith Observatory to practice her training. She was a bit nervous and distracted with her surroundings. We worked through it by working on her obedience commands. We practiced commands: come to sit, down, heel. She knows her commands pretty well already. We need to work more on her focus and duration (holding commands longer). Heel is still a work in progress, but she doing much better at staying by my side and not trying to pull me to sniff.

Today I took Ellie and her friend, Ava, down to Huntington Beach to work on commands around high distractions. She did very good! She followed all her commands and ignored all the distractions going on around her. Ellie sat calmly and politely while a little boy came up to pet her.

Today Ellie and I worked on her training at home. We worked on all her obedience commands. After training Ellie got a bath and spent the rest of her last day socializing and playing with her friends. She can’t wait to go home and show you all she has learned!
