Dutchess | Husky | Pico Rivera, CA | In-Training

Meet Dutchess she is a Husky from Pico Rivera. She is with me for her 2-Week Board and Train Program. She is here to get help with not bolting out of an open door and her reactivity to other dogs that are too energetic (i.e. barking, hyper…etc.). She is a sweet dog that is great with people. So we will enhance her best qualities and work on her problem areas. Keep an eye on her 14 day transformation!

Today was an introduction day for Dutchess. We spent the day getting to know each other and her new surroundings. She is sweet and seems really willing to please. I look forward to beginning to the real fun tomorrow. I am hopeful for a wonderful transformation.

Today Dutchess and I began the fun work of getting her Off Leash ready. We started working on the basic commands of: Come, Sit, Down, Place and Heel. It was her introduction to most of her base commands. From here we we will build on them and work towards her being off leash as soon as possible. I am happy with her work today and her willingness to work for me. Keep an eye out on the next few days!

Dutchess and I worked down at Marine Park in Long Beach today. There was more a few more distractions for her today but we continued working on her basic commands. She is coming along fine and I see her mind really working. I look forward to the day it really starts to click for her. I am making sure to keep her hydrated and happy!

Dutchess and I worked down at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa. Her Come command is starting to come along nicely. She loves to use her nose, but despite that she is listening to me better everyday. I focused more on her Extended Sit command today. She is starting to love the work we do! Lastly, she got to meet my cat Gimli while she was resting on a Down command after training today.

Dutchess and I work at El Dorado Duck Park in Long Beach. We tried doing a little work with her just dragging the leash. She did well for the most part but needed some clarification on a few things. She wants to do right but sometime let’s her strong will overtake her good decision making. We have made some good progress and will continue moving forward with each day!

Dutchess had a great training session today.

What we have worked on in the first week is really beginning to come together for her. We focused on her Come, Heel, Extended Sit and Down today. She is able to hold the Sit much longer! I will focus more on her Down the next few days. Overall a great session today!

Today Dutchess and I got a little rained out. She did well all weather considered. We worked on our Come, Extended Sit and Extended Down. She did really well. Her Extended Down still needs some more work but she is almost there. I am happy with the work progress she has made so far.

Today was Sunday Funday for Dutchess and I. Although it was more relaxing for her we turned our walks/strolls into training sessions. It’s really starting to stick and I can‘t wait to build up on everything she’s learned in the first week. I finally got to see how she reacts to squirrels today. So we worked a little on teaching her she doesn’t have to chase after them. She picks up quick!

Dutchess got a double training session in today. Thanks to Jose and Haley for the help! Dutchess is coming along really nicely. Her engagement is much better and even her Down and Sit is being held for longer and longer durations. I plan to really focus on her Come, Heel and Place command to piece it all together before she goes back home.

Today Dutchess and I took our training down to Sherman Oaks. There was plenty of human and dog distractions. She overall did really well. She can be a little stubborn when she really wants something but it’s gotten better with each day of training. Things are coming along. We still need to improve on her healing and place commands. Overall a great session today!

Today Dutchess and I pushed a little further in our training. I still had her drag the long line around but we have gotten to the point where she has a good understanding of the e-collar. So, we should be all off leash training the remainder of our training sessions. There was a good amount of animal distractions in the way of squirrels and ducks today. She did really well at not paying them too much attention. I’m really glad with how far she’s come!

Pupdate 10/28/2021

Today Dutchess and I went down the 2nd & PCH Shopping Center in Long Beach. She really likes to use her nose in brand new environments, sometime not paying attention to the e-collar. Once she gets that we’re requiring the same behavior in a different location she settles back in. Her Place command is coming along well. I want to tighten up her Heel and Come command more before she goes home Sunday.

Dutchess has to improved tremendously and I am happy with how far she has come. With one more day of training I will sure up the loose ends and get her to where she needs to be. In new environments she can be a little stubborn but after a few times of doing a particular command she gets in the flow and gets things going. She has the free spirit of a Husky but she wants to please!

Pupdate 10/30/2021

Today was Dutchess final day of training. She has come a long way! She did really well overall. She still has a strong free spirit but understands so much more about the importance of listening to commands. I look forward to dropping her off tomorrow and showing off all her new commands.
